Early 2018 sales update after the Steam Winter Sale has boosted sales across the board. LOTS of games going up one tier, as evidenced by the list below.

My prediction that Tyranny will surpass 300k before the end of the year came true, no doubt thanks to a healthy series of discounts since the release of the expansion. It sold around 125,000 copies in the second half of the year, which is not bad at all considering its overall performance. Crazy results for Larian Studios, as even their legacy titles are selling like hotcakes - in total, the studio easily sold more than half a million copies of their games during the latest sale alone. Very healthy increases for all the Beamdog titles as well, they were down to just 7 euros a piece during the Steam Sale; Planescape benefited the most from this, nearly doubling its total number of copies and selling as much as the Baldur's Gate titles during the last month.

What's up with Heroine's Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok - huge increase in sales, must have been bundled somewhere I guess?

Torment: Tides of Numenera stuck forever in the middle of the 100k-200k tier :|

--------------------

Games that have moved up a tier - Legend of Grimrock, Alpha Protocol, Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, Tyranny, Heroine's Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok, Invisible, Inc., Beyond Divinity, Legend of Grimrock 2, Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, Legends of Eisenwald, Battle Brothers, Wizardry 6/7, Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition, Quest for Infamy, StarCrawlers, ADOM (Ancient Domains Of Mystery), Balrum, Bastard Bonds

What's up with Heroine's Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok - huge increase in sales, must have been bundled somewhere I guess?
Well, it's already freeware. They did introduce a "Developer apprectiation package" DLC in December though, so maybe that made more people aware of the game.
(they also bundled the DLC with their commercial releases, but HQ being their most popular game by far, I doubt it had much of effect)

Looks like it's less of the new DLC, more of this reddit post sharing that this game adds up your library count despite being free. While its owners number has increased by 145K, players number are largely dormant. I.e. most of the new owners just wanted to add their library count.

Fuck my life. There are people that actually care about this crap? And here I thought my opinion of humanity couldn't go any lower...

skycycle good job with these updates, man. :salute:

Btw I would remove the 40k-50k tier and change the 20k-40k to 20k-50k, and also add a 1,5 M plus tier with Darkest Dungeon, D:OS and probably D:OS2 too some months from now.

First title in years that has made me actually consider buying gaming rig.

You won’t regret it. That said, KCD runs surprisingly well on substandard hardware. The only people having real problems are the ones running GTX 1080s for some reason.

Really? Every review I've read notes the poor performance. Especially extreme frame rate swings. Have they been patching like crazy?

It's exactly like that, FPS hops around like crazy. You CAN maintain over 30 , even 40, with tweaking. But it will drop and rise all the time depending on the scene

Been a while since the last update, and since the Lunar Sale just ended, I figured why not now :)

SteamSpy numbers tend to fluctuate a bit after sales, so some of the numbers below will change in the next few days... however, as you might notice, most are already lower than January's due to readjustments. Point is - these are always to be taken as estimates at best.

SEGA ran their annual 'Make War Not Love' promotion and gave away copies of Alpha Protocol, which explains the huge increase in owners. I expect it will take a few days until SteamSpy gets a proper hold of the actual numbers, and they might go up a bit more as a result.

Pillars of Eternity was featured on Humble Bundle a few weeks ago. Torment: Tides of Numenera is part of Tier 3 in the latest HB, launched earlier tonight; it will get somewhat of a boost in the next few weeks. Wasteland 2 and the Shadowrun trilogy are also included in the same bundle.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance makes a very strong debut after a long time in development; it's too early to say whether it will make a run at 1mil+.

Some of the games with significant owner increases since the last update in early January:

Since we have ELEX in the OP, I'd add Kingdom Come: Deliverance and its good sales to the thread too.
We know from the devs that it has passed 500k already, and it's at about 450k copies on Steam alone, according to Steamspy.

Codex Year of the Donut
from the article
Sales figures can still grow, but it is hard to estimate. Developments in video game sales are similar to movie sales, with most revenue coming from the first weekend. "The tip is at the beginning. The game is very similar. At the beginning, there is a strong tip and then there is such a tail and it is up to the tail to keep it as long as possible, "continues Frývaldský.
meh, I'm not sure that applies evenly across the medium. Strategy games, RPGs, etc., seem to keep their sales figures up far after their release date. e.g, Witcher 3 sold better in Q1 2017 than Q1 2016 with an overall increase in revenue despite price drops.

Update with numbers from the end of March.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance continues to sell well, and is comfortably in the middle of the third tier with ~660k sold. Too early to say when it might approach the 1 million mark, but sales should be quite good throughout the summer season, so I expect it to be sooner rather than later.

Most of the other high-performing titles were featured in bundles - the Shadowrun games, Wasteland 2, Torment. A few others had big sales on Steam, including The Banner Saga and Thimbleweed Park.

Beamdog released NWN Enhanced a few days ago, but it is yet to exit the bottom of the ranking, with around 15-20k sold since March 27. Curious to see how well this one will do, especially given their pronounced downward trend in terms of copies sold.

Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut - 50,000+ copies
Divinity: Original Sin 2 - 45,000+ copies
Shadowrun Returns - 40,000+ copies
Wasteland 2: Director's Cut - 40,000+ copies

That seems suspiciously high for a game that was an unmitigated commercial disaster. Let me check its Steamspy page.

Those numbers are probably true, although that doesn't mean the game isn't a flop. There were already a decent amount of ''pre-orders'' via the Kickstarter campaign, it has been discounted several times on Steam, and it was recently featured in a Humble Bundle as well.

Given the number of Humble keys still circulating on trade websites and resellers, I would expect it to actually cross 200k at some point in the near future.
