Hey, Gimp takes long enough to load that it might very well be faster to use a website.

It's faster to just go to the specialized site instead of finding the template image in your computer (or downloading it if you don't have a folder for this stuff already), add the text and then upload it somewhere.

They're in the last gym now.

There are holes on the second floor, and pits of lava on the bottom one. No fences or anything. This gym is ridiculousky unsafe. How did the league authorize this?

also, some kid is spamming nudes of some Helen girl out of butthurt for being dumped as "revenge". I've blocked it because it's highly likely Helen is a highschooler and they've recently tightened the child porn laws in huehueland. I don't think the deputy will appreciate it when I tell him that someone linked the pictures to me in a chatroom where people played Pokémon.

Sayne7: PM me and i'll tell you how to see ALL the Helen pics without link sharing!!

Nice try, FBI.

Leader battle.

Clair's Dragonair one-hits HootHoot with a slam, then level 5 Smoochum (yes, this thing didn't get a single level since being born back then while they were still trying to get the third badge) tries to confuse the level 37 dragon with Swagger. Swagger is an attack that doubles the target's Attack while confusing him, presumably so he gets hurt more while hitting himself. But if that doesn't happen, you just upped your opponent's attack for him, so it's very risky. None of this is relevant since Smoochum misses, and Dragonair slams into her baby-sized body with gusto. It'll take more than a few trips to the pokecenter to fix all those broken bones.

The Gator arrives to avenge the fallen like usual and sends the dragon into yellow health with Cut, but gets paralyzed with a Thunder Wave for his trouble. Gator is withdrawn and Brian the Average Pidgeot is out. This regular bird that is definitely not messianic in any way takes a Dragon Rage (fixed 40 damage, one third of his health) to the beak before he can start spamming Fly, killing the first Dragonair and maiming the second. One thunderbolt sends Brian into red health, but the Fly spam continues and the second Dragonair is down. Third one out, this one gets and ice beam on the bird, killing it. Gator out, eats one dragon breath and then kills the Dragonair with Surf. Kingdra shows up and opens with Surf, which doesn't do much against the Gator. Maybe he's just trying to show off for the other aquatic lizard?

The Gator uses Scratch (why the fuck do they still have this?), taking a sliver of health from the giant seahorse (who is totally a dragon, srsly). Kingdra makes a very disproportionate retribution with Hyper Beam, severely damaging the Gator. This apparently pisses him off enough to use Rage. A second Hyper Beam boosts's Rage's power, and now both are in yellow health. Jaden is uninterested in the epic battle unfolding before him and analyzes the master ball instead. Without guidance, Gator panics and starts to spam Surf, which isn't enough to finish the pseudo-dragon off.

After a few turns with Kingdra's health in the red, Clair gets bored and uses an Hyper Potion, completely restoring Kingdra's health. The fight turns into an ugly slugging match where both take tiny bits of health from each other for a while, but Gator is paralyzed and therefore in a severe disadvantage, and to top it off some smokescreens from Kingdra have reduced his accuracy to shit. Two Hyper Beams later and he's down. Jaden is booted out of the building.

Looks like Lazorgator isn't the hottest stuff in these parts anymore.

Matthewth0: So one problem with our composition so far is that none of our pokemon are good (and most are weak to) electric and getting something like Lugia or Suicine wouldn't help that.

Mayhelixbewithyou: Espeon + Psychic = Beastly.

Z33k33: as far as espeon goes, he might be fine if we just delete his 3 useless moves

Patashu: OPERATION Ice Punch: 1) Fly to Goldenrod 2) Go to mart 3) Buy TM33, Ice Punch 4) Teach to Feraligatr

Ibegyourhate: We didnt beat clair but it was a close match

Z33k33: stop talking about smoochum, he's getting replaced

Empressofsnow: Aw, we lost to Clair? That's okay! We can try again!

Smokemonster84: we would have won if not for the damn hyper potion

Z33k33: plus FLY is nice because it protects the user for a turn with invincibility

Yoshiperhapsman: Wow I expected Dragonair to be bigger

Arghaeopteryx: Gator too stronk? KINGDRA TINK OTHERWIZE!!!!

Blueberrykup: this old woman is so kind for letting us stay

Empressofsnow: She enjoys our company.

edit: They got her on the second try. Best moments include Shuckle using encore to convince the first Dragonair to spam Slam on him (maybe a good idea since Dragon Breath's fixed damage would ignore Shuckle's beastly defense), Espeon spamming tail whip on the second Dragonair and still causing mediocre damage with bites, and Gator taking only 30 points of damage from a thunderbolt from the third Dragonair. Kingdra was easily bested this time as Gator didn't waste time using surf on him and Brian was still alive to finish the job with Fly.

But like Whitney, Clair is a big baby and won't give them the badge right away. While Whitney only requires you to talk to her a second time (after she's done crying), Clair demands you take some bullshit dragon test on a nearby cave. On the plus side, if they score 100% on the test, they can get a Dratini with ExtremeSpeed. On the bad side, that's unlikely to happen unless they do the test on democracy mode.

Bountyhunter628: beating clair? easy. leaving her gym? hard as f***

Sfxsigma: i want to get off gym leader clair's wild ride

Dr_clipper: It's too hard to make room for Dratini. Let's ignore him for now and Master Ball Suicune

Aikidunot: Guys, let's make room for Dratini now and deposit someone! We need Dr.Hoot for flash so keep him. We also need to teach whirlpool We'll have to navigate the ledge once more anyway

Muthserra: HAH no way, we don't need a sodding metapod on our team I mean seriously

Muthserra: No shitt smooch needs to go, the only ones who want to keep him are those who have prolly zero knowledge of pokemon and want him for the novelty

Z33k33: Our ESPEON has 3 moves that don't do any damage which hurts us a lot, if we aren't choosing BITE, burrito is cooked...

Bigfatmantis: Shadow Ball is a physical attack in this gen

Assassin234: Psybeam got dissed hours ago, hopefully we dont do that to Psychic

Dr_clipper: Yes, we will use PC at some point. See if we catch Suicune first!

Fiction789: Who the *** cares about that *** ledge. Most of TPP's viewership happened LONG after that ledge was beaten

Blaazin14: TlCK TOCK KlLL THE CROC

Zanzaanzaru: there is no god in this game

Questioning Clair further gives us this bit of unwarranted smugness:

Yes Clair, it is too fucking much. Just give us the damn badge like your job requires you to. I understand Whitney being an emotional trainwreck but you are a grown woman, ffs.

The Gator can't even take some shitty Magnemites or Pikachus. This team will be so fucking REKT by Battery Jesus.

No Extremespeed though.

Got at least one question wrong, then. Extremespeed is only on her moveset if thou art virtuous enough.

They've been trying the Elite Four for a while.

Faithfulforce: THIS IS ATTEMPT 15 OR SOMETHING

Amsay56: you are effing kidding me. now lazorgator's poisoned. he could have taken the entire elite four out, but now, we screwed around and missed our chance

Faithfulforce: YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH MONEY FOR ICE PUNCH

Orio94: get money for ice punch from mom

Elitelordsigma: I don't understand why Onix is in the party in the first place.

Z33k33: Yes, we're trying to Evolve our Onix to learn Earthquake and Iron Tail.

Tl_419: jesus christ, there's absolutely no way you people can use items

Dudeosity: destroy the jynx gus

Karmillina: KICK THE FALSE NICKI MINAJ

Kassarin: raticate is crap, sacrifice him

Australian_helioptile: Why the *** do you losers always keep going back to New Bark Town?

They've also managed to waste all 99 of their pokeballs.

We got through the 2nd Gen FAST.

Compare that to the first game where we needed 16 days. Though, do we also play through Kanto afterwards?

Edit: And I'm tuning in on the first defeat of Bruno.

I only became aware of this yesterday. Awesome stuff. I have not laughed so hard since I can't remember when.
I tried watching the stream a bit too, but my internet connection was having its period and the video wouldn't load.

Is there some document on the net with a detailed history of the original run? Not that I underestimate the efforts to bring everyone up to date in this thread, mind you.

EDIT:
Never mind, found it.

Too bad they won't be able to continue this throughout the series. DS's touchscreen is too much for this interface. But they should be able to at least finish gen. 3, theoretically.

IIRC correctly you didn't HAVE to use the touchscreen in gen4 and 5. Y would send the controls to the lower screen.

That said, I'm not sure Nintendo would allow the DS games.

Maybe I remember it wrong, but I think you have to use them at the beginning of the game, when you are taught the touchscreen controls in the first place.

But yeah, technical problems aside, Nintendo could easily can everything, I guess..

They better go through Kanto. That's the other half of the game.

Always loved that about gen 2.

I'm kind of surprised Nintendo hasn't shut this down. They've obviously heard of it by now, and they've been quick to come down on LPers recently, and the guy running the stream even admits to using an emulator and Nintendo fucking hates those, and yet they haven't done anything to get the stream taken down (unless they sent a letter or something to twitch and were told to fuck off).

I wouldn't be quick to assume they just want to avoid pissing people off, either, because modern Nintendo thinks of its fanbase about as highly as the Codex thinks of biodrones or oblivion fanboys.

Nintendo isn't in the financial position to risk pissing people off. Plus it's free marketing for pokemon games and/or garnering interest in Pokemon X/Y.

I don't know how well Twitch bothers to protect it's users, but if the streamer owns a copy of the game and dumped the bios from his gameboy himself, he should be fine on from a legal standpoint.

Unless they can claim that his license is for personal use only.

Pokemon doesn't need the publicity, but they're probably willing to let it go unless the stream gets to the DS games. There's a FAQ on Reddit explaining the streamer explained he got the rom from Vizzed, a popular emulator site that uses a "we own copies of the games available here, yolo" argument to stay up, so he can probably use that (the viewers don't get their own rom to play with).

That whole "if you own a copy of the game you can download the ROM" thing is actually a myth, at least by US copyright law.

http://www.nintendo.com/corp/legal.jsp#download_rom
Can I Download a Nintendo ROM from the Internet if I Already Own the Authentic Game?

There is a good deal of misinformation on the Internet regarding the backup/archival copy exception. It is not a "second copy" rule and is often mistakenly cited for the proposition that if you have one lawful copy of a copyrighted work, you are entitled to have a second copy of the copyrighted work even if that second copy is an infringing copy. The backup/archival copy exception is a very narrow limitation relating to a copy being made by the rightful owner of an authentic game to ensure he or she has one in the event of damage or destruction of the authentic. Therefore, whether you have an authentic game or not, or whether you have possession of a Nintendo ROM for a limited amount of time, i.e. 24 hours, it is illegal to download and play a Nintendo ROM from the Internet.

I realize Nintendo might be a tad bit bias about this, so here's another source:

Is it legal to download a copy of a game I own?
No. Even if you own the original game, you are not entitled to download a copy of it. Copyright law clearly states that the only copy of software you are entitled to is the one you make yourself.

Of course, I'm pretty sure the guy running the stream lives in Australia or something so I have no idea what the law is there. But since twitch is based in the US (at least I'm pretty sure they are) and have to comply with US copyright law, they'd probably have take the stream down if Nintendo asked, despite how popular it's become.

Apparently archive.org is offering roms (most prominently the MAME, MESS and TOSEC) without problems due to a set of clarifications and exemptions about abandonware they received from the US Copyright Office.

I didn't say it was legal to download the rom. I said it was legal to have it. Which is true.

It would be pretty dumb for Nintendon't (yeah) to do this now. They could wait a couple of weeks until no one cares anymore. Well, "care".. Hmm.. yup..

Even with the DS games I highly doubt Nintendo would do anything. They literally can't afford negative press.
