I'm really enjoying the pacing of the campaign (playing on ultraviolence). The faster you kill, the easier it gets. Your reward for killing things is being able to kill more things faster.

I've completely forgotten about grenades and the only time i throw them is when i'm trying to crouch and end up blowing myself up since it's bound to ctrl.

old post, but after actually playing the game, whoever is playing nu-doom in that video plays like a massive pussy. it hurts my brain to watch someone waste three shotgun shells on a zombie because they're too scared to go point blank. and then he runs away from the enemy when he's low on health, when every enemy is a walking health pack. sad.

The Art And Science Of Making White Noise. The way this guy is trying to pass himself off as a musical genius, is nauseating.


That's another disgusting facet of modern AAA game development: using in-house no-name shitters or washed-up has-beens, who just go through the motions, to produce these generic, pedestrian, conveyor-belt audio tracks, which further delineates the faceless nature of their products.

Compare something like this



where you can hear the composer being scared of putting actual texture into his music,

to something like this



(coincidentally, CT's OST is still the reigning champion of dynamic game music, since every level had so much musical personality and the seams where made in such an organic way).

Another prominent example:



forgettable, ambient, soporific garbage

vs



a bombastic techno track with some classical overtones that stays with you for years.

Such a shame that there's no succession of talent in this industry and many great composers are never asked to work on games again or simply fade into obscurity.

Deus Ex HR theme (as well as the rest of the soundtrack) creates atmosphere very well. You may not feel it, but that's ok, not everybody feels the atmosphere of any given game. It's subjective.

I miss the days when games had music with actual melodies and memorable themes, instead of the faceless, characterless mass of sound that passes off as game music these days. Although it's possible to create memorable, atmospheric ambient music too (Mark Morgan).

the music in D44M is intentionally bland because you're supposed to make the music yourself with shotgun blasts.
I'm not joking though, the music syncs to your shots. it's very cute. each gun has a different pitch iirc. the intensity of the music is dependent on how many demons there are. gives the game some rhythm.

Ah, I didn't know it was the same guy. I loved the music in Killer Instinct, definitely better than DOOM.

I remember when Rick Berman fired Ron Jones from composing for Star Trek: The Next Generation because the music he made was actually too fucking good, and Berman literally wanted the score to serve as wallpaper for the series.

I remember the horrible jump somewhere around the 2nd season. The music up to then was amazing, real sci-fi music imo. I was surprised to hear it when rewatching the show because I only remembered the bland stuff from the later seasons.
