Heracles' RGM isn't one of the first personal ones. The guys who first started smuggling tech to γω-1 about 88 years ago were among the first riftwalkers with personal RGMs, larger generators were used before that. But yes CTPCT agents can detect rifts using equipment similar to, and possibly even more sophisticated than, that in Heracles' customized RMG.

5)…by entering one of the local establishments and trying to sneak out using a back door or something.
G)…transit to a different parallel. Nazis? Not exactly the kind of people you want to deal with.

Nazi parallel is full of surveillance. Paranoid. Shitty way to do business.

Assuming that we are of sufficiently Aryan stock to do business here in the first place:

3) - The cask might prevent some more elaborate escapes, so it might pay off to simply confront them, although ideally in an open space.
B) - Mailing the holo-teaser is at least better than involving some assistant. The lure of more technology down the line ought to ensure some safety.
E) - Might as well try to blend in and look for more opportunities. That Emanuel fellow seems far too jewey, what with his suspiciously friendly behaviour. Better avoid him.

There is a tie between 1) and 3). So the next vote for either of those will decide. If we won't get one by 21:00 GMT the choice will be decided by the total number of goals in the Real Madrid-Malaga CF football match which is happening later today. If the total number of goals is an odd number we go with 1) if it is even we go with 3). Would have just gone with the lottery like Kz3r0 but potato lottery doesn't happen until Tuesday.

What's stopping anybody from doing that regardless? Herc is a fucking arms dealer, if he can't deal with unpleasant, genocidal psychos, then he is in the wrong line of work here. We need to make the best of the situation. Hellraiser, do we currently have enough fuel for 1 transit in case shit goes sour?

1.12 A friendly chat

The two men are rather persistent, trying to lose them makes no sense. Confronting them may be the best option. If they are CTPCT agents, they can't really do anything to you in such a crowded place. Unless they are not agents but locals. But that is a risk you have to take. You start walking towards them, curiously the men seem somewhat surprised by this. Regardless they try to maintain a "professional" serious look as they approach you.

So what do they want from you? "We were curious about a few things, perhaps you will come with us and explain." - one of them starts talking, with a barely noticeable German accent that he is clearly trying to hide. "I do not recommend resisting, it may force us to resort violence. Which may end rather unpleasantly. Especially with the three gunmen backing us up. There is also that gunship, just in case of course." - he explains while pointing upwards to the sky, surprisingly there is a faint black shape resembling an aircraft there. The last helicopter you saw was a lot more noisy to say the least. "Stealthy isn't it? Now please, come with us to our car. I can assure you that we will not use violence. As long as you do not force us to. Now put these on, it is merely a precaution." He pulls out a pair of rather sturdy-looking handcuffs.

"Do not worry, we will take care of your belongings. After we inspect them thoroughly of course." - he adds as he puts the handcuffs on your hands, and takes your suitcase from you. "Oh and I almost forgot." - he says as he reaches out towards your inner coat pocket, the one where you are hiding your gun. "Surely there will be no need for this, although I have to admit you know how to hide a gun. My associate will take good care of it I can assure you."

Well Heracles you're getting old it seems. Getting caught like that by a bunch of savages. At least they are locals, hopefully it won't take them long to confirm that you are indeed here to do business. Still what do they want from you? You enter their car, an inconspicuous van with the "Swift Hurricane Cleaning Services" logo on it. The two individuals keep staring at you throughout the whole trip. Obviously there are no windows in the back of the van, you also cannot see the diver. The car stops once for a moment before moving again and stopping just a minute later. It must have been some sort of checkpoint. It appears you have reached whatever destination the two men are bringing you to.

"Good, now come with us." For some reason only one of them is doing all the talking. The doors of the van open. It appears that you are inside of an underground parking lot, it is filled with security cameras and vehicles. Some are "generic" cars while others are menacingly-looking armored vehicles. "Unfortunately, as a security measure, we need to ensure you see and hear as little as possible." - the "talkative" agent tells you before he put a pair of opaque black goggles and earmuffs on your head.

Eventually they take off all the headgear and you can once again see and hear what is going on around you. You can see two chairs and a desk with what is no doubt a one-way mirror. "Please sit down. My associate will leave us now and we will be able to discuss a few things." The "mute" agent leaves the room leaving you alone with the "chatty" one. He points a bright light right in your face, it is rather annoying to say the least.

"You are a new arrival in New Port City, or you are one that has eluded our attention for long. Obviously you lack an ID card which is no doubt why you were at doctor Kohler's little establishment. Although that alone is hardly suspicious enough to be worth my prestigious organization's attention. If we had to dedicate as many resources as we did on following you, on following every vagrant, paranoid ex-POW or impoverished lowlife entering that clinic. Well even all the money of Reichstahl, Zuse-Komp and Thule AG combined wouldn't be enough to cover the bill for that. Still it was rather surprising, to see an individual looking just like the suspicious one from the library, entering the clinic we have been observing. You see, there aren't many people with broken legs in New Port City visiting the library. Especially those asking for banned publications." - he says in a friendly tone even if he is accusing you of suspicious behavior, whatever that means.

"What do you know of Colonel Colridge also known as Paton as your resistance prefers to call him. What? Surprised that we know who is hiding under that ridiculous moniker of his? The real Paton was far more a threat for the Reich, well the one we actually fought that is." Well he is right, you are puzzled to say the least. You deny that you know anything about him, which is the truth anyway.

"You are making a mistake by being so uncooperative. It seems I must resort to standard interrogation procedures. A pity, I was hoping my vocal cords would be able to relax a little longer. What is your name, where does your resistance cell meet and when?!" - he starts screaming at you. Once again you tell him the truth, he remains unconvinced. "Clearly I need to moti..." - his sentence is interrupted by someone entering the interrogation room.

"Obergruppenführer Hartmann? I am in the middle of an interrogation, if you have business with the Gestapo please wait until I am finished." - the interrogator tells the intruder in German, good thing you bothered learning the language during your cold war smuggling days. "If the rest of the Gestapo in the American occupied territories, is as incompetent as you Kriminaldirektor Reiniger, then I fear I may need to inform the Führer himself of it. Just because the Governor General lets it slide does not mean the Reich can afford such blunders happening." - the military officer who just entered the room replies, he seems to be rather upset. "Blunders Herr Hartmann?" - Reiniger asks.

"Did you bother checking this man's belonging properly before interrogating him? No you did not. If you did, you wouldn't have violated regulations, his case is out of your jurisdiction. Furthermore I asked for your cooperation, in case the Gestapo found an individual that the Ahnenerbe is looking for. Now leave, this case as of this moment requires Kaiser level security clearance. I will transport this individual to one of our interrogation chambers." - the Obergruppenführer tells him as he puts a pair of earmuffs and opaque goggles on your head.

Eventually, after what you think was an elevator ride upwards, they take off your headgear. You are in a similar interrogation room, only this one lacks a one-way mirror. There is however a camera staring at you. "Sit down. Now unlike the Kriminaldirektor I do not like long chats so I will be to the point. Your employers have no doubt gotten smarter about trying to spy on the Reich. Still, that Glock of yours, was made after we liberated the factories where it was manufactured. The toolkit itself isn't that suspicious nor is the first aid kit." - Hartmann tells you.

"Your possessions were enough to determine who you are, especially combined with your suspicious actions. Now you will tell me exactly why are you here and who do you work for. We both know you are not a mere resistance member or sympathizer. You will tell me the truth."

You will tell the Obergruppenführer...
A)...nothing. Remain silent at all cost.
B)...that the gun is not yours. You found it and wanted to contact the New American Police about it, you're just an innocent former POW trying to find his place in society.
C)...that you are an agent of Atlantis, and holding you captive may result in atomic bombardment launched from an armada of rift-capable dreadnoughts.
D)...that you are a mere traveler from an alternative universe. You were just exploring and mean them no harm.
E)...that you are a smuggler and can supply them with advanced technology from Atlantis.
F)...that you are a smuggler who wants to sell them technology. Also you will tell them of the titans, chimeras and the neural probe.
G)...everything. From how you ended up stuck in a different parallel to how you encountered the titans and their shipwreck. Oh and that you can sell them technology.

Vote now.

I think E) or F) are the best options available. The "wants to sell them technology" in F) may make us sound more helpful than E)'s "can supply technology". However, starting to add info about titans, chimeras and neural probes may make us sound like a deranged lunatic, thus making them less likely to take us seriously. So, unless some extra info is provided, I'll have to agree with Kz3r0 and go with E).

Edit: Onega is right: the Nazis may become very interested when they hear "neural probe" and "Ubermensch titan" so I'm flip-flopping from E) to F).

I just didn't want to repeat myself. Heracles will always use "professional speech" when talking to potential buyers, the choice in essence is not about how but what you tell Herr Hartmann. Heracles has over a decade of experience in dealing with governments and their armies, he won't fuck up due to a poor choice of words. He will try to sound as convincing as possible at any rate, if he wouldn't then odds are either the KGB or the CIA, would have killed him way back αδ-62 when he contacted them.

Ahnenerbe is a lunatic organisation created by Himmler and other lunatics because Atlantis lol.
They obviously made contact already and prolly bought shit. Great going, guys, who voted for staying here. :smug parrot:

Neural probes have the possibility of becoming an unrivaled topseller if only they knew that we cant supply them.
F)...that you are a smuggler who wants to sell them technology. Also you will tell them of the titans, chimeras and the neural probe.

What did I tell you guys about evasion? Sheesh.

All right, trying to make the best out of a bad situation (being locked up in high security neverwhere, with a broken leg - not exactly the best bargaining position now is it?) - E) ... that you are a smuggler and can supply them with advanced technology from Atlantis.

I don't really see the point of F) - why give up more info for free? Sure, if we can somehow use it to our advantage, i.e. it turns out they know about the titans and are wondering how to deal with them etc. - but so far, the fucker doesn't even comprehend the origins of our Glock, why blather about chimeras and shit? If we need an explanation for our broken leg, truth is only as good as any convenient lie - but has the downside of being true. Given that insufficient paranoia got us locked up, turn up your personal paranoia regulators and get propa sneaky.

Currently there are 3 votes for E) and 2 for F). Better than the landslides after some of the previous updates. I guess I'll close the voting and start working on the update in 24 hours or slightly after that. So you still have time to DISCUSS! and flip-flop if you want to.

1.13 The lion’s den

You came to this parallel to do business, or at least you hoped to do business. Surely the Ahnenerbe officer, can understand how beneficial all the technology you can provide the Reich with is. Obviously you do not mention anything about the titans, especially about the wreck, it is your trump card after all.

“Well Herr smuggler,” he replies to your monologue, “I might have believed that tale if not for one minor detail.” He stands up and reaches out towards the contents of one of your utility vest’s larger pockets. “This is a rather fascinating device,” he tells you, as he brandishes the neural probe he just pulled out, right in front of your face. “I have my doubts as to why a mere smuggler, would be able to acquire what is most likely a fine example of Lemurian engineering.”

“Now Reiniger may be an imbecile, after all he did scan you and all he noticed was the concealed gun. While he was busy shouting questions in your face, I did a bit of scanning of my own. Gestapo facilities in the occupied territories, are woefully unshielded against even the most simple of structural scanners. And what I saw was not just a RGM in your vest, which the Kriminaldirektor missed, but also the Lemurian object in question. What was your mission pioneer, and what do you know about the Lemurians?“ Naturally you insist that you are a smuggler, and outside of the “device” you retrieved after killing one of them during your unplanned run-in, you know absolutely nothing about them.

“You see”, he tells you, with some degree of irritation noticeable in his voice, ”I found interrogating the last two elite Atlantean pioneers we caught rather exhausting. They didn’t say anything, until some of the best interrogators in the Ahnenerbe took care of them. Therefore I will just stop wasting my time with you and send you to them. You better bring a warm coat with yourself, I heard it is rather chilly in New Swabia this time of the year.” He once again puts the earmuffs and goggles on your head. It appears that you are being led outside of the building. The journey is in fact long, very long…

Years or months later…

How long has it been? Well you have no idea really. The small dark room, you have been inhabiting since you arrived here, has no windows. It is very cold here, it is a miracle you did not lose any fingers or toes yet, it could be from the pills they are giving you. The torture and interrogations you are being subjected to at random intervals certainly do not help. You resisted during the first two dozen or so torture sessions.

But eventually you cracked, little by little with every torture session, you told them more. Now they know everything. From the details of your childhood, through your student days at the Galathean Academy of Engineering and your first “business” trip with Doctor Styx, to how they caught you. During your last interrogation, you even told them of the Lemurian wreck and the automaton intelligence guiding it. Maybe it convinced them to stop torturing you, or your mind is playing tricks on you and in reality, not a whole lot of time has passed and another torture session will start soon.

You hear footsteps, guards are walking down the corridor. They stopped right in front of your cell’s steel door. The door opens, a bright beam of light nearly blinds you, your eyes are no longer used to such luminosity. Before you, in the beam of light coming from the outside, stands a soldier. He is holding a lasrifle in his hands and wearing an advanced black combat armor with “SS” markings on it.

“You will come with us Atlantean, it appears you have a Patron. Now come, you need to clean and dress yourself properly first.” – the soldier tells you in German. Has the day finally come? Are they going to lead to you a gas-chamber under the pretext of taking you to take a shower? Will this nightmare end? Or maybe he is telling the truth. Still, death at this point, would be welcome.

It appears the soldier was in fact honest, they gave you new clothes. Water not Zyklon B, was pouring out of the shower nozzle. You still have handcuffs on your arms but they are not bothering with the goggles or the earmuffs this time. Finally the soldiers escorting you lead you outside of the prison, you see a landing pad, along with kilometers of ice and snow stretching all the way until the horizon itself. A small VTOL craft is standing on the landing pad, its doors are open. You enter the craft along with the soldiers and sit down near the pilot. “All systems check, suborbital trajectory calculated. Estimated time of arrival in Neu Port is 14:27.” – the pilot says in German as he finishes pre-flight check.

Eventually you can see New Port itself from the aircraft’s window. It looks different, much different. You can’t see the Goliath tower which was turned into the Governor general’s office for one, not to mention the other landmarks. Instead you see lots of unfamiliar and “futuristic”, compared to most savage architecture, buildings in its skyline. Has it really been years? It appears the craft has slowed down, it is heading towards the tallest building in the city. A large “Thule AG” sign marks the building. After the craft lands on its top, you exit it and walk down the stairs.

You enter a somewhat luxurious-looking corridor, the soldiers lead you towards one of the door in it. A “Hauptgeschäftsführer Büro” sign is on it. The door opens, you see a man, roughly in his early thirties, sitting behind an elegant desk. He is wearing an expensive suit that matches the refined interior design of the office. “Take his handcuffs off and leave.” – he orders the soldiers in German. “Jawohl mein Herr!” – the soldiers respond and carry out the order.

“Please take a seat, you are no doubt wondering why I had them bring you here.” – he tells you in Atlantean, although he seems to be somewhat struggling while speaking it. “But first allow me to introduce myself, I am Maximilian Ajax – CEO and founder of Thule AG.” Maximilian Ajax? That is impossible, Ajax would be over a century old now. Clearly he is an identically named son or grandson, assuming he is telling the truth. “Your disbelief is hardly surprising Heracles. You see, in the past eight decades I have spent in this parallel, I had the opportunity to continue some of my research. The research teams and equipment I brought with me helped immensely. Now I can claim that I did in fact conquer the nemesis of medical science, the process of aging, and human mortality itself.”

So the “gene-repair” research was not a dead end? “It took the use of some of the tools, disapproved by the luddites in the Great Council, to make it work. Atlantis would never achieve such a feat with its taboo on advanced adaptive machine intelligence. As long as one knows how to use it, banned technologies can turn men into godsmen. The Lemurians you encountered are proof of this, even despite their hatred for non-biological machines.”

“I have an offer for you Heracles Kyriazis. While you did in fact, get caught by the Gestapo in Occupied Parallel 1, the knowledge and skills you posses along with your career as a smuggler, mean you would make a fine agent of the Ahnenerbe. Experienced riftwalkers are in short supply, especially those with Atlantean full citizenship. I will even give you the choice of how you want to serve the Reich. Your loyalty will be rewarded, I will eventually make you immortal and eternally young, just like I did with the Führer and his inner circle decades ago. You will have power and wealth, but only if you will be unquestionably loyal.”

Immortality? It sounds intriguing to say the least. “I can assure you it is worth it. Also do not forget that if I didn’t pull you out of New Swabia, you would be no doubt a frozen corpse in another month or two. Few people were kept their as long as 4 months like you were, most are deemed useless and disposed of far sooner than that. Even with my considerable influence on the Führer and my position within the Ahnerbe, it was not until they found signs of the Lemurian Vimana you told us about, that they decided to heed my request of freeing and employing you. You owe me your life if you like it or not.” – he explains.

“It is a pity you did not tell us about the Vimana sooner though. The Lemurians recovered it at most three weeks before we got there it seems. At any rate these are your options. They all require the high levels of security clearance, so you will be briefed about the details and trained once you arrive. Obviously I will give you your RGM back once you pick.” – he adds.

You will work for Ajax and the Reich by…
1)…looking for evidence of Lemurian, or other, presence in nearby parallels and gathering intelligence. You will become an Ahnenerbe special agent.
2)…helping with an important secret project Ajax himself seems very interested in. You will become part of the Ahnenerbe engineer corps.
3)…by sabotaging Atlantean operations in Atlantean parallels. You will become an Ahnenerbe infiltrator and saboteur.

At the very first chance to leave this parallel you will…
A)…do wherever Ajax wants you to go. He saved your life and offers you immortality, you guess you can forgive the Reich all that torture and the “free vacation” in New Swabia.
B)…get as far away from the Reich as possible. Eternal life be damned.

Vote now.

B) means you will obviously lie to Ajax about wanting to work for him and the Reich. Whether you get the opportunity to leave, before the briefing, depends on your career choice.

Yes Ajax was extremely vague about what exactly you will do in either of the 3 “career paths”. Don’t worry, neither of them is an instant death choice. Also sorry for the long update, it would have been shorter if you didn’t vote for not telling Hartmann about the neural probe. Don’t worry, one of the other options would in fact result in a long slow death. So that wasn’t the worst choice, but you did lose the Vimana wreck.

Even if I have a bad feeling about the whole deal of immortality and advanced AI.
