No Man's Sky is setting new standards, at least when it comes to color schemes for space sims.

With Daedalics new game "Project Daedalus: The Long Journey Home" we have now three games with surprisingly similar looks.

Project Daedalus - The Long Journey Home combines the spirit of classic space adventures like Starflight and Star Control II with a brand-new roguelike spin. Explore a galaxy inspired by beloved Sci-Fi from Farscape to Firefly, jumping from system to system in search of a way back to Earth. Discover new worlds in search of allies and assistance. Endure scorching winds and lethal gravity as you mine essential resources and search for ancient relics. Seize every opportunity to survive. But beware. Every choice has consequences, both for you and the galaxy.

In The Long Journey Home you can land on (generated) planet surfaces and search for resources, aliens, wrecks, ruins, cities and artifacts. Maybe you’ll meet a local tribe that has never seen technology. But be carefull how you treat them. They could be protected by an interstellar culture.

Apparently the studio doesn't have a website of its own, so they publish their informations on tumblr where the hipstamatic colors feel right at home: http://daedalicwest.tumblr.com

They should name it Daedalus 3000, to honor both the classic game by Derek Smart and the prestigious codex poster daedalos3000.

What name is dildoloss posting under these days, anyway? I want his verdict whether this game will be GUD. Infinitron

They have gravity defying rocks on some planets (and surfers in the front, looking for an ocean):

It's coming second half of this year. Now they're simply calling it The Long Journey Home.

The space exploration RPG by Daedalic Studio West will take players on a journey through distant galaxies.

Hamburg, February 25 th 2016. During the Daedalic Days 2016 event in Hamburg, Daedalic Entertainment Studio West will present its first project, the space exploration RPG The Long Journey Home.

The Long Journey Home takes players to the other side of the galaxy, plunging them into both the wonders and dangers of deep space. Every decision the player makes has consequences and will influence how the game unfolds. To get the space ship’s crew home to Earth safely, finesse and skill are needed. It is always a tough call to decide if it is time to pick a fight or handle matters with diplomacy…

The Long Journey Home is due for release in the second half of 2016 for PC, Mac, Linux and consoles.

About The Long Journey Home:

The Long Journey Home is a Space Exploration RPG that combines the best of classic space adventures like Starflight and Star Control II with the replayability of modern roguelikes, in a procedurally generated, endlessly surprising living universe inspired by beloved modern Science Fiction shows like Farscape and Firefly.

Your goal: to find the way back to Earth. An accident during humanity’s first jump drive test has catapulted you and your crew to the other side of the galaxy, and the only way home is through. Lead your crew as you explore new worlds in search of allies and support. Face searing storms and deadly gravity as you plunder alien worlds for their secrets and technology. Befriend alien races and earn their trust. Keep your people alive. Do whatever it takes to get home.

Features:
  • Explore a living, procedurally generated galaxy
  • Guide your crew through complex quests and moral dilemmas
  • Uncover ancient secrets in the ruins of distant worlds
  • Fight for survival in a dangerous universe
  • Chart your own course - every game, a new journey

Sounds like Starcon 2 meets Voyager. What can possibly go wrong?

Actually it can be good if they deliver on they hype, which they almost certainly won't.

Also it's coming to TurbodweebOS and consoles so I'm not going to fap just yet.

Thank God they changed the name.

Daedalus is one of the most overused names in Sci-Fi of all mediums. It's the genre's equivalent to movie titles that end with :Revelations and other tripe.

Well, "The Long Journey" won't win any awards for originality either.

The image is called "all aliens" - looks like a pretty limited number of species.

There's some sort of plant guy in the video Infinitron posted that isn't in the image, so that's at least one more.
