    Like subscription MMOs?

If i could not pirate games i would only ever play FtP and freeware games. I already pretty much do. Even though in theory i could watch a bunch of LPs and get a real feel for a game that's real actual time and well hard to get myself to do sometimes.

Wait a minute; any developer can force MMO like control if they honestly think they are loosing so much money with piracy but they don't. Why? I mean MMOs cant be pirated at all.

Never heard of not-so-private servers? What is that if not pirating?

Ok but about half don't get private server-ed? What if a large portion of game logic is server side? I think that's a difficulty step or two above cracking. Better yet if the pirates need to re write that much of the game code they might as well make a whole new game.

Problem with my piracy in my opinion starts when you download games you actually like or want to support.
It's not a problem when you download a mass effect or skyrim just to see what this media hype about but it starts to become a problem when you start to download wasteland 2,legend of grimrock.... that's what killing the industury actually.
Mass effect ,skyrim have large enough fanbase that they can reach to millions in sales but wasteland2 or kickstarter games doesn't have that luxury.

It's not a problem when piracy is directed at scumbag companies like Capcom who engage in anti-consumer disc-locked content scamming either.

I've always been saying that when paying for game you don't actually pay for it.

You pay for the tiny measure of influence over the market, and you help finance the sequel/successor/whatever.

Game is something you can get for free, those other things are not.
Pirating indiscriminately because it's free only exposes you for a short sighted fool.

The most important thing is direction. The game may not be quite where you want it, but if it's the right direction compared to the rest it may pay off to buy it if it's also playable.

Just like with evolution, you won't get anywhere if you ditch all the phenotypes because they are unsatisfactory. You select the most satisfactory ones of what you have and then repeat.

If in the future publishers can be cut out of the middle, it will hopefully drive the costs of games down. If someone isn't willing to pony up $10-$20 for a game they actually like where most if not all of the mony is going to the developer, than what can any reasonable person say about them?

I bought New Vegas in for $20 something a little bit ago, I hadn't tried before i buyed either (but VD was positve about it). If i knew what Bethesda was actually doing (I was thinking Obsidian would see some of that, either a royalty, or their getting bonuses depending on numbers of copies sold), I wouldn't have bothered with it at all but I can understand someone wanting to pirate it if they knew what was going on. Personally I wasn't that desperate for Oblivion with guns and a good storyline.

Every time I see the words "gamer entitlement" or something similar, I find myself substituting it with "dev/publisher/video game "journalism" entitlement".

I can't even muster up the feelings to care about whichever company is bitching about PC piracy. They ignore logic and real statistics about the problem, and they'd rather wallow in self-pity and denial then actually make decent games, or make them cheaper.

I download games I'm interested in, and buy only a few afterwards, because 99% of the time it isn't worth the price tag.
(Plus I live in New Zealand, which jacks up the price of video games for no other reason then no competition).
