I wonder how they will be able to make their linear corridors now.

Bioshock had great atmosphere and art design. I enjoyed the gameplay as well, but then I'm easily entertained. Consolification could be worse, at least they gave us health and eve meters instead of next-gen suck-yer-finger-in-a-corner nonsense.
Bioshock 2 was more of the same. Weaker story, a little more consolified, but played at hard and without resurrection chambers it is good enough for me.
If this thing Irrational is working on turns out to be yet more of the same, I will likely buy it and enjoy it as well. No sense hoping for anything more, they managed to come up with a franchise that is not a generic military sci-fi Halo rip-off, and it sells. That's good enough. I can still reinstall SS2 if I find myself longing for its gameplay and scariness.

Not much to be honest, I'd like to see MOAR

That trailer looks great... graphically. I look forward to seeing this city in screenshots and never playing it. Looks like another linear series of setpieces like the first. I predict 10/10 GOTY.

Art was indeed great, but I have to say I was completely disappointed with the gameplay. The shooting part was, in my opinion, awful and the RPG elements that Levine had promised were nowhere to be seen. I actually believed him when he said that Bioshock would be a spiritual successor to System Shock 2, in retrospect I am a moran :(

I'd probably rather the fruit had fallen a little farther from the Bioshock tree, but the setting still looks relatively novel.

Excellent. These themes havn't been run into the ground at all.

Not that I suspect it'll be well handled at all, but if you could name even half as many games which criticise American imperialism, as there are Tom Clancy titles, I would be very surprised.

Then again, I should've guessed considering that many of the interviews given with Levine involve his deep and insightful musings on the subject of how extremism is bad :M

You're right. They haven't been run into the ground. 99 % of games or more ALWAYS have the US as the good guys, their invasions of other nations are just liberations from maniacal warlords etc. All the ideology in Civilization really promotes the idea that US style democracy and freedom is the ultimate form of government. All the shooters have you as a good US grunt, fighting the good fight against the Russians, Chinese, Arabs who want to steal our freedomz. Gun porn fap material like ArmA ONLY ever have a US or US stooge campaign to play. Bang, bang, bang...America FUCK YEAH!

I know you meant the opposite, but since that didn't make sense, I imagined you were being ironic ;)

I might give it a try since I enjoyed previous Bioshocks.

But you know what would be better? A Thief game in this setting.

I'm slightly scared of heights. I get this half-exhilarating, half-pants shitting feeling from it. I hope they use it well in the game.

Trailer is beyond retarded.
So now it's Biocock, only IN THE SKIES?

:smug:

It looks like they're going Squaresoft's way (over-the-top settings and shitty gameplay). Not that I bother...

Ovar thar.
I'm still amazed to discover that people managed to play all the way through Bioshock.

I actually died of boredom five times in the first hour. I didn't get better, either. A medium is typing this for me.

Biggest oversell (or outright lie) in the past few years. Total waste of a great atmosphere/concept on utter garbage game play.

I stopped at the second level.

I don't know where I stopped, actually. I think I died a few times after I stopped; it's hard to tell and this medium might be lying.

Bioshock is a spiritual successor of System Shock 2 only in the sense that, thematically, there is a parallel in the former for everything that was in the latter. Spaceship gone to hell becomes underwater city gone to hell, mutants are splicers, PSI-powers are plasmids, security is similar, hacking still has a (dumbed down) minigame, story is still told through logs, the player is still guided by a voice over the intercom/radio etc.
But the gameplay is completely different and Bioshock is a pure FPS. I didn't think shooting was anything special either, but I found it ok because I have low standards and at least I was given a reasonably varied choice of weapons and ammo types. It feels a little better in B2, but that could be just me.
Anyway, for the foreseeable future, to have an experience similar to SS2 there will no other option but to reinstall it. If I want better shooting, I'll reinstall one of the STALKER games. If I want an actual FPS/RPG besides SS2, there's also Deus Ex. Life's good.

Would you rather have another WWII themed shooter? Or maybe you'd like to be in generic futuristic world #3000? Over the top is fine, as long as the art direction is nice and it's not too retarded. We'll see if Irrational can manage to do that.

Why the hell would they call it SkyShock? It's not like BioShock is called SeaShock. :retarded:

BioShock was an idea-driven historical science fiction.

The more you know...

Makes zero sense at all. System Shock was called System Shock because it was about enhancing your body with cybernetic implants. BioShock is called BioShock because it's about shooting up slug substance that re-writes your DNA. The name never had anything to do with the location of the game.

Well at least this wont be just Bioshock with new guns like Bs 2 was, so I'll definitely torrent this.
