Well Chris probably tapped them up earlier and was always going to bring them out at some time. Must admit it worked well. Had they pledged on the first day amongst the general rush I doubt they would have pulled up extra pledges like this: after all, to get these 'donors' people still had to put in 10,000 extra, that's more than a regular day's worth.

I read that you can't self fund, and I guess that being caught out is the last thing they want, so I think it is genuine, just maybe other devs and corporate backers. Besides, most big name projects have these 'mystery' backers..

But seriously, I worry that if they don't get funded in their first go, they may not get another chance. They might be forced to do something else and disband again, or maybe a new kickstarter won't be able to get much of a following. Besides, I love parser games and I wanted there were more of these. Still, sorry for derailing the thread.

    Happy this got funded. <3

Where should one start with this series? That 1 and 2 pack on GOG seem to be an adventure game and flight simulator (If I am reading that correctly). The flight sim part does not really appeal to me at all. I'm terrible at that crap. Perhaps start with the Pandora/Moon/Overseer games?

Pandora Directive is the high point of the series, IMHO.

Not really, you just play around with your hovercar a bit, but it doesn't involve any skill, and you can use the automatic pilot. I think the first game is pretty awesome, and while it lacks the FMV that made mso many people fall in love with the series, I think the keyword based conversation system and the area searching sections of the game are a lot of fun. The second game is a pretty standard (but well made) point and click adventure game, while the subsequent ones are FMV adventures with 1st person view and 3d environments. Sometimes, the games use that to hide items in places where they would logically be, for a very good effect.

OK thanks Alex. That doesn't sound bad (the first ones), sounds kind of interesting. I might watch a tiny bit of a LP and see how it looks and plays.

Alex summed it up perfectly. All are worth playing, and MM has a great MT-32 track (though sadly more jazzy at times than the MT-32 can handle)

Yeah the hovercar thing is just a gimmick as are the shooter elements. The first can be bypassed by autopilot as has been said. I think it was only in there for the full 'gee wiz flight simulator in my adventure game!' effect, but is pretty redundant. To be honest I would still do the first two games even though they are totally different in style from the rest to get the full idea about how the whole Tex thing matured as did Tex. At the very least, do Martian Memorandum and not Mean Streets if you are planning on playing them all eventually as Mean Street will give spoilers about the plot of Overseer. Since Overseer is told as a flashback in the first place it doesn't matter that Tex's first case is last.

This is great stuff, and an estimated release for 2012 to boot.

I was in the same boat as you, I never played a Tex game but donated out of respect of others' opinions and wanting more professional Adventure games. I just started to play Overseer and I like it a lot. It's very corny in a charming LucasArts kind of way.

That big investor carrot thing might've been the most effective Kickstarter gimmick yet. I think they raised a 100k in 2 days. It might be shady but they were on pace to make their goal anyways so I kind of doubt it. I think they just had friends, family and maybe a couple fanboys in reserve the whole time.

That's just for the prizes, the actual game is supposed to take 12-14 months.

Joining the "play Mean Streets, Jaesun" crowd (or at least try it out). I've just finished it and it's a load of fun, with taking notes, red herrings, optional puzzles and quite a few amusing deaths.

They've got pretty cool stretch goals. "More game" is the best kind of stretch goal, I think. No "some chick from the office as enemy" or "OMG ORCHESTRA" shit.

Meh. Shitty stretch goals. Console port? EFIGS? really?

I'm seriously thinking of downsizing my pledge. Fuck I've never been this conflicted over a game before. So much potential for this being awesome, and so much for it being the greatest disappointment ever seen in an adventure game.

Really, only the second stretch goal is like this. Both the first and the third promise more things to the game (which I think are really the best type of stretch goals there are). And while porting the game is kind of unnecessary, doing it in other languages can help it reach a wider audience. I am not a native english speaker, and while I am now able to understand enough of it to play a game like this even with subtitles, I know what it is like wanting to play a game but not understanding what the heck is going on. Why, I remember that after one year of playing Ultima 8 on and off, I finally understood that the necromancer wanted his knife back! After that, I was finally able to advance in that game... until the necromancer sent me to the Birthplace of Moriens:x. So, my point is that while the second stretch goal isn't so much to my liking, the language thing is important for some people.

They're kind of like a nice square version vs the Fargo/Schaefer punk rock style of fuck the publishers.

I guess we haven't hit Kickstarter fatigue yet if a Space Quest clone and Tex Murphy get $500K+.

I don't know about Space Quest, but I would say that the Tex Murphy series has a very distinct niche that doesn't overlap that much with other old adventures. So it's not really another point'n'click adventure revival, which might be why it managed to collect the funds it did.
