I am holding off my opinion on this. I know it's RTwP, but it could be good. The graphics look nice, and there could soon be a plethora of custom, fan made adventures you can play as a single player using your own party.

If the single player campaign is even moderately fun I will be happy. I just want a 5e game, even if it is RTwP. If the DM tools are friendly enough I may play in real time against good DMs, or even run short games for Codexians who want to play.

If the single player aspects are completely ignored for the multiplayer, as in NWN, I will be pissed and won't get this. If the game play is shit, and combat sucks even for RTwP, I won't get this as well.

Not possible. If you try to play player made campaigns in singleplayer you can only control one character and no companions can be added.
They didn't IF and WHEN that would be added but for sure it is not coming at release. They said after release they are going to add real conversation trees to the editor (yea you cannot have that either).

The game is a a MP action RPG, deal with it people.

From all that they're saying it seems to be only 5e D&D in name only, fairly gutted or "streamlined and innovated" in marketing speak. Probably do well.

Multiplayer conversations controlled by host to make sure people get everything needed… in single player conversation thread controlled by player who initiates.

A lot of autopause options. So single player seems to be more of real time with pause, multiplayer more action RPG.

No permadeth in single player campaign (“Be a short game,” Ash says). They are open to considering a roguelike difficulty setting.

Ash does not directly answer if you can be evil in main campaign, but says you can be very underhanded and there is stuff you can do the writers included that surprised him.

You cannot hire or make your own companions.

Cannot split party into different zones.

Ash says again this game is based on D&D 5E rules. Mentions this regarding character level and difficulty (or lack thereof) of enemies.

There are random encounters in player campaign.

Tim and Ash are having a tough time figuring out boss battle. Initial strategy did not go well. “Uh oh.” “This isn’t going to go well.” “That didn’t go as I hoped.” These rats are really OP.

Tim speculates during boss fight that he may not have to worry about party wipe in demo mode. Tim risks an action and takes out two of his own party members.

Tim manages to squeak through the boss fight but Ash points out he used 7 potions.

Q&A SESSION WITH ASH

Campaign is 4 players max.

In answer to “would you consider custom loot if you character was set to private so they couldn’t jump in public matches, only allowed in your longplay campaign, please it’s really important for roleplaying” … “If there is demand for it, we would certainly discuss it post-launch”.

Most but not all tile sets used in campaign mode available in DM mode.

It’s not an MMO, but there is a party camp that can be used once players have joined up. (Recurring groups?)

In the player campaign there are many skill checks like you saw today with [CHA]. In DM mode these currently have to be simulated by the DM.

There are random encounters in both story mode and DM mode while you travel.

Currently no plans to increase party size. Balance/ UI etc.

Dungeons scale based on character level, not gear they carry.

Branching dialogue in user created campaigns perhaps the #2 biggest request.

NPC companions for user created content also talked about a lot.

I was really excited for this game when it first got announced. It seemed really cool at the time. The more and more I read about it, the more and more I think I'm just going to pass on this completely. Not even purchase it on sale.

From what I understand from reading the last few pages of this thread, this game is NOT an RPG, but a pure action focused co-op game. Why did they need to use the DND license for this? Why not Steam Greenlight with a generic DND setting?

That's like asking why are all d&d games set in Forgotten Realms. Or why all Forgotten Realms games are set on a strip of the north coast.

Because the answer is the same for all three questions: Drizzt porn.

It's not really an action game. More of a combat-heavy DA:O with co-op.

Quite a few similarities to Original Sin 2 as well, as I understand it.

I still see the biggest problem with this game being the paywall they hide the deeper DM and player features behind.

Might not have romance after all. No 'Mature Themes' in the ratings tag.

Maybe they didn't think it was cinematic enough.

Not being able to increase party size is stupid as fuck. There is not much room left for derping when you just have four characters that each has to fill a specific role. I don't understand the reasoning behind this.
