Looking forward to this quite a bit, but, taken from their latest Steam update:

"Sudden Strike 4 is now just one week away from release, with the highly anticipated new strategy title due to release on Windows PC, Mac, Linux and PlayStation®4 next Friday, 11th August."

It's quite a trend that Euro-publishers are pushing "PC style" sim/strategy games to consoles recently. Not only this, also Tropico 5/6, Shadow Tactics, Constructor HD, Cities: Skylines, Spellforce 3, and Surviving Mars.

Interestingly, on the other hand, American ones (Civ, Total War, Football Manager) are mostly stay on PC.

edit: oh yeah Total War and FM are not American of course, I dumb

Never played Sudden Strike games before, just saw they added the old ones on GoG.
Always wanted to try them but how do they differ from Blitzkrieg series?

Less LOS and Arty spam, dont know which one has that as core mechanic. Kiting. They are all shit and live by their stylistic cuteness.

One of my biggest gripes with Blitzkrieg was that the only way to beat missions on normal was to use your sniper and spot for your arty (always removing enemy arty on map spamming bombers, otherwise their counterarty is fucking deadly). It was quite tedious so I ended up playing on easy like a complete faggot, but I had fun.

I've only played a little bit and I'm not entirely sure what to make of it. I'm leaning towards "it's shit" at the moment, though. Rambles:

The amount of missions screams budget release: four skirmish levels with one pre-order dlc map(??), no shitload of custom missions like in SS1 (battle of Midway etc), three campaigns with eight or so missions each. UI is ugly. You look at it and think "dumbed down." Not promising.

Company of Heroes style "skill trees" for each commander, except really uninteresting shit like infantry can carry 20% more ammo. Not something I've ever felt lacking in the SS series, feels unwelcome.

Graphics are eh; they're ok. I've always preferred the original SS' style over the more recent 3d titles anyway. Voice acting is kinda bad, nothing catchy when you order your troops around. Music is generic shit: dull, dull, dull.

Seems like most missions are beaten by attack moving in a blob, even into defensive lines you don't seem to lose that many men / vehicles. Damage feels a lot lower than the original SS.

There's no real way to scout like you could previously with the officers, so it feels like you just blunder into enemy positions but it's OK because you usually just overwhelm the enemy with your grouped attack move.

Honestly I'm probably just going to replay SS1 after writing all this.
