Stellaris - Paradox new sci-fi grand strategy game

That is the most mediocre research system ever. Future Techs? But I can get them before I'm done with regular tech? I mean, that's just high quality design right there...

I don't understand, Irenaeus, would you prefer for research to simply 'end' once the list of techs is run down?

What were some viable alternatives that would have shown creativity/imagination?

Who said that those aren't in?

Although, I would be extremely annoyed if Tech Victory was not an optional end game.

As you say, outside of an endless pre-conceived tech tree, what other options exist?

Three ways space 4Xs deal with the issue:

1) Tech tree ends, research is useless (Space Empires I-IV, MoO I/II/III)
2) Tech tree offers outright victory or continues to improve score (GalCiv I/II, Civ II-V)
3) Tech tree offers limited, continued improvements (Stellaris, Space Empires V)

I don't see any of those as intrinsically superior.

We don't know how extensive the 'card' roster is for Stellaris. If we're talking hundreds of techs, I don't see an issue. By the time you're into Future Tech territory, it's probably Turn 450, or something and you have run the gamut of the game's available experiences.

A really long research list and Tech vitcory through Ascention to godhood or hyper-dimension or some shit.

No longer science then. Ascension to God-hood should be like 100.000 years after intergalatic travel. not 50 years of researching "techs". IMO.

Well, that's debatable. I think the game features only intra-galactic travel, but anyway. If I was designing a tech tree for a space game, I'd give end techs a radical spin that in some way make them game winning. Not really a fan of +10% manufacturing or +10% laser damage per future tech. Just saying. But I agree that doing this is actually a tough job, because it involves research, writing, etc.

Inter-stellar and intra-galactic are synonymous here. Inter = between, Intra = within. Cogito ergo sum.

And yeah, can't remember an inter-galactic game. Mass Effect Andromeda will be a first!

Let's just agree they are both horrible, Interstellar and Fallout 4.

If you watched Interstellar after you pirated it along with your porn in bulk and watched it on a slimey monitor after you waxed your shaft thoroughly, then yea! ITS HORRIBLE!

They should finish HOI 4 first, they are making DLCs for CK2 EU4, haven't finished HOI 4 and now doing this.
