If the Terraria devs get their Lunar update out before Starbound makes a half-decent update, I suggest you giving Terraria another go.

No, it's not. The best developers are all depressed.

Do you want Cliffy B, Ken Levine, or Kojima in there instead? If you don't like Gabe Newell being called a "game developer" better go and make some changes on wikipedia.

Tell me more.

From what I can recall, the oft-toted Lunar update will add new things related to the moon cycle, including a new event with what can only be described as the endboss for Terraria. More importantly, and this is the bit that's hardest to get confirmation on, is the addition of more content and material that's found at high altitudes in the gameworld.

Other stuff is around 140 new items, another side event, achievements, progress bars for invasion events, more dyes and... sinks. Let's just get the "everything AND the kitchen sink" joke out for this update and be done with it.

No release date has been announced, but a 2014 release is probable.

Why do you think GabeN still hasn't released HL3? He's not working on it full-time because he's tired of being depressed.

eh, i have 153h clocked in starbound,

I swear sometimes that time flows differently for me than others. I see a lot of you guys with hundreds of hours of time in a single game, with multiple games, like it ain't no thing. I have 200 hours in Civ 5, which not only is some kind of record for me, but feels like I had to play the game obsessively (which I did) to get to that number. I felt every hour of that 200. And that's a finished game (or was at the time i.e. vanilla version). Not criticizing or calling you out, by the way, it's just something that always strikes me. I literally shirk responsibilities to put that kind of time in, but other people seem to be able to manage their time just fine. Or maybe I can't into patience or immersion.

Even more bizarre to me is the people who claim that put 500+ plus hours into Fallout 3 or something like that; I did every single quest in that game, visited every location, two of the xpansions, and I don't even think I broke 70 yours. What the hell are people doing in that game? I can understand that in Mount and Blade or MMOs with their content updates, but Fallout 3? Where builds hardly matter and you get maybe two quests per town?

mods and larping. but yeah, that would be like all my top three activity games combined and in a shitty game to boot.

I have like 80 hours in Starbound but only because I played it on a mac when my old PC died and I was having a new one built.

Sounds way more boring than what some mods has already achieved... although Starbound 1.0 might fix the shitty creature generation and make it more like Terraria. We'll see though.

Serpent in the Staglands Dead State Torment: Tides of Numenera
wasn't there a post ages ago when people complained about tiered progression being too similar to terraria's tiered progression that the progression wouldn't be tiered and totally different? that doesn't look totally different.

And everyone on the codex complained that the studio abandoned development, looks like Chucklefish has every intention to finish this game.

They do?

Looks more like: "Okay, finish this quickly, we will still not have half of the promised stuff in our 1.0 release, but fuck it, abandon ship! Good thing we got us a new office and gave other indie devs half of our money from Starbound, so dumb people have reason to think we actually accomplished something!
Time to make that new pirate pixel shitfest of a game! But this time we actually use a design document and hire some experienced project leader..."

Honestly, I wanted Starbound to succeed, I like games like that. I like building stuff.
But they showed such a lack of strong leadership that it is just embarrassing. It feels like a group of headless chickens tries to make a game.

Set sail for Wayward Tide!

We’re incredibly excited to announce the latest in-house development at Chucklefish:
LOGO1-1024x203.jpg

Wayward Tide is a co-operative top-down action adventure game, taking place in a treacherous archipelago during the golden age of piracy. You and up to three other friends will find yourselves in a bustling sea-town, ready to swash-buckle your way through five mysterious islands, of ever increasing riches (and difficulty). You’ll battle dangerous enemies, hoard treasures, solve fiendish puzzles and avoid deadly traps… or maybe you’ll backstab your crew to get ahead!

One of the key features we’re focusing on is the nature of the puzzles and traps, which will introduce a competitive edge to the co-op experience. For instance, you and your friends might find yourself dealing with a pressure plate trap.

The solution would involve everyone stepping off at the same time. Stepping off too early will unhelpfully drop a boulder on your friend. We’re currently planning on a way to resurrect co-op players from time to time, so it’s not game over if a few of you get killed along the way.

Be warned, however – Death comes at a price. If all players die, they’ll find themselves washed up at the starting town. The treasure will carry over, allowing them to upgrade in the town stores, but the next attempt at the island will be a different experience thanks to the randomly generated levels.

Planned Features:
  • 1-4 Player Support (Local and Online Co-op)
  • Competitive Co-op Experience
  • Randomly Generated levels
  • Five distinct islands with their own theme, enemies, puzzles and traps
  • Modding Support

The Team:
Allow us to introduce ourselves, we’re a dedicated team at Chucklefish – Working independently from the Starbound team.

Community and Modding:
We’re still very early in development, and there are a lot of decisions yet to be made. The vibrant community of Starbound has been a great success, and that’s partly due to the modding scene. We want to encourage the same with this game, so the current plan is to make our development toolset available shortly after the game is released.

We’ll be looking to the community to tell us what they want to see, so get in touch via this blog, or alternatively on Twitter (@waywardtide).
