I'm kinda glad that this string of EA/Crowdfunded games or media failures (The Yogcast game being cancelled, the Towns fiasco, the perpetual beta of Rust and DayZ the meltdown the 'Pictures of Sad Children' author went through while getting his book published, etc) is happening, specifically because it'll clue the average consumer into just what they're getting themselves into, and just how bad an idea it is to hand their money over to twenty-something hipsters and geeks with little experience in leading a development team beyond maybe making a few indie games with friends in their free time.

Rust is fairly enjoyable at the moment. Maybe the trick with early access is to only buy the game if you'll enjoy it as it stands, not based on what it might possibly be 20 years from now.

I will say that development on it seems to have sped up since the fan base complained enough to finally get weekly updates. That's not surprising, since when you're logging what you're doing every week it's hard to do the "spent the entire time messing around with some experimental features that will probably never be in the game but that I can justify by pretending it's work" thing. Taking an hour every week to reflect on what you've been working on is pretty useful, which is partly why the whole "updates would just slow us down" line that developers seem to love is a good warning sign.

eh, i have 153h clocked in starbound, which is 40+ more than i clocked in terraria, and most of it was quite fun. whether it's vaporware, a scam, or just incompetence, i already got more then my money's worth out of it, and it was neater than terraria was when i played that.
