So this got released yesterday. Anyone heard of it or tried it? I've seen a single LP on youtube but it's taken from a really poor twitch streamer so didn't want that to ruin my impressions.

Apparently in principle this is fairly similar to Escape Velocity games.

EDIT: Altered the thread's title in hopes it's more likely to grab people's attention.

Game seems to have some pretty nice reviews, but I'm still on the fence about it. OTOH I also see the dev begging people to not give it a negative review so that's a rather pathetic sight to witness.

Hi there, I'm the solo dev, found this link on google search, wanted to drop by to answer any questions you guys may have.

@Monocause
For a Let's Play that goes beyond the start, which is quite slow usually for this genre, check out Matalus's channel:

(Entry into mid-game, with the first squad member and a Drone Corvette)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9Rf6tm9-2s

(Further into mid-game, with the Cerberus Carrier, and 2nd squad member!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iy_vssMA8qU

(Drone Carrier gameplay with 2 squad members, a bit of everything)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NR4y9_DajWE

And for the Pirate point of view, with explanations on all the major game mechanics, check out this one:

Thanks! But yeah, that's exactly the channel I meant in the OP - Matalus has got some issues to sort out with his volume levels. I barely can hear the game's audio and if i turn it up the streamer's voice just destroys my eardrums when it kicks in :) Trindraf's vid was better but it's a pain to listen to him sometimes as his english isn't very fluent.

Have you considered approaching someone like Blitz? https://www.youtube.com/user/Blitzkriegsler/featured

He's not my favourite but he's okay, seems indie-friendly and he does do space sims. Generally would be worth it to approach a bunch of LPers with a good amount of subs, a decent voice, sufficient hardware and good command of the language they cast in. Matalus and that Trindraf guy sadly do not qualify (yet).

I actually don't follow the streaming scene, I just respond to whoever contacts me asking for keys to review. A bit of a newbie when it comes to these new trends.

But thanks, I'll check out Blitz.

Definitely get into it! There's a plenty streamers and LPers with big audiences, and they have been becoming increasingly influential over the past years. Nowadays you have big studios like Firaxis, or publishers like Ubisoft, approaching some of these guys on their own with sponsorship offers in exchange for streaming their games - it's gotten to the point where it's so important it's often a painful mistake to forego LP outreach in your marketing plan.

Personally, I'd rather watch an LP rather than read an old style review as it allows me to look at actual gameplay and even if the LPer is sponsored and therefore will be reluctant to criticise the title, I can still make up my own mind.

Just released the 10th Update, more content & features. Including new ships & a Capital Carrier. Got lots more planned.

@eklektyk
With the squad play, in many ways it is similar to Star Wolves. The combat is fluid, AI constantly moving, trying to avoid being shot, going for flanks or out-run your weapon tracking, big ships try to keep their strongest shields facing the biggest threat etc.

If you guys enjoy the genre, give it a shot.
