I've been getting stackhash errors from different apps on my PC recently. ( Google Chrome, Winrar, IDM and some other ) which causes the app to crash and in some cases ( like Winrar ) never work again. I tried reinstalling it, it worked for an hour or so, but it started to crash again. Event log of the crash ( for Chrome ) if it's any of help:

I searched Google. I found some similar cases , but no solution. I'm using windows 7 64 bit. I tried to ask this in some other places, but no one gave shit. So I'm trying my luck with the caring and knowledgeable community of Codex. ( No sarcasm intended. )

I don't think it's a virus, no one mentioned a virus during my Google search. It's more like a corrupted windows file that needs to be replaced. But I don't know which file. Also I think it has something to do with 64 bit windows.

But I'll run a scan anyway just to make sure. ( Don't have an Anti-virus installed right now. )

Yes. I forgot to mention that I already tried disabling DEP, but that didn't work for any of the programs.
I'm pretty sure RAM is OK. It's not a hardware problem.

    Quick solution: reinstall Windoze.

    Nasty solution:
    Fault offset: 0x7ef56553
Download Olly, configure as JIT (just in time debugger), let something crash, attach, look at memory map at the fault offset address, since its a memory access violation (c0...5) its not guaranteed that the error originates there, just an instruction reading/writing/executing where its not allowed.

Strage offset too, its still within user space but barely so. My Opera has no dlls loaded that far.

you could always try this method to identify the actual cause.

Guys, forget about the stackhash error. I'm in a far deeper shit right now.
I downloaded AVAST Anti Virus to scan the system , but as soon as the fucker got functional, it deleted all of my exe files ( for video games ) and the ones that are not deleted don't work anymore. I click on them and simply, nothing happens. Now I can get along with Stackhash errors, but this is bad. Deleted exe files can be replaced, so they're not a problem. But how can I make the ones that won't work, work again?

I tried using system restore, but there were no restore points before installing that piece of shit.

I feel bad enough already. You don't need to make it worse.

I will never ever even think about free Anti-viruses again. Fucking piece of shits are worse than any virus themselves.

Obvious virus, imo. Seriously, you're pretty fucked. Format and reinstall Windows, it's the only way to be sure.

And, next time use an anti-virus.

    Or this:

It's not the Anti-Virus, it's the virus your system has. I use Avast pretty regularly to clean-up my sister's machine. Either you've got a nasty infection and Avast just quarantined a bunch of shit with fire or the virus itself found Avast and responded as such (some viruses will look for popular anti-virus programs and when detected, try and wreak havoc to them).

Can you boot into safe-mode? Do so if you can. Then when you get in, in the start menu type "msconfig". Then under the "startup" and "services" tabs, click "disable all" for both. Then reboot and see if your machine works or not. If it does, it's something running that's fucking your shit up. Download and install Avast now and see if you can run it (or try downloading, installing and running Avast while in safe mode - though it may not necessarily run). If not, then the damage is done and your best bet is to do a repair install for windows... But you'll need to clean that shit out.

If you want, try and install Hijack This! and run it to get a log, then post that on one of the many help forums to see if someone can spot something.

I did what you said and ran a full system scan in safe mode and I got around 450 infected files. Guess what, all of them were exe files from different games and programs ( even windows files ) I have on my system. They were classified as Win 32. Vitro. I did a quick search and found out that it's a trojan distirbuted by torrent sites ( seems legit, since I visit them a lot ) , does more damage as the time progresses and can be removed by Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool . I'm currently downloading. Hopefully it will fix it. ( at least to a degree. )

Yeah, keep rebooting in safe mode and scan that fucker until you get no results. Then do a normal boot and try and do something (browse, open MS Word, whatever). Then reboot in safe mode and scan again. Some viruses will sit in temp folders and will come back several times by just re-copying themselves everywhere.

One virus will also beget other viruses. Once you're compromised, they'll open up other weaknesses and download other shit.

Don't be afraid to try a few anti-virus products. Sometimes I'll do an Avast boot-time scan until it's clean, then uninstall Avast (to avoid conflicts between multiple anti-virus programs), install something else (MalWare Bytes, AVG, SpyBot Search and Destroy) and run that as well. Some viruses are better detected by some programs than others.

If you have too many problems cleaning it up - and if it's an option - format and re-install.

for the future, don't torrent stuff with executables from public trackers. either use private ones or don't fucking torrent at all. either way, get yourself a free firewall that comes bundled with a paranoid app blocker like comodo and don't be a lazy fuck that sets every executable on trusted.
at least this way you'll know when your torrented shit tries to do something suspicious and be able to block it.

Well, I guess I indeed need a complete hardware reformat. MMSRT detected some malwares, but none of them were win32 vitro. I searched the net a bit more and I didn't anything about anyone who was able to clean his PC from this trojan.

I heard about them. But I never had the chance to know more about them. Are they free? if yes, how can I access them? Since it's called private.

this site has enough info to allow you to find some private trackers on your own, but you should really consider giving up piracy, since you seem to be lacking the necessary common sense or intuition to protect yourself and your machine adequately. you already pretty much killed your os by being careless. next time it might not be something as harmless as a virus but the police knocking down your door.

Don't you think giving false links is too fucking old ?

You're talking about Piracy like it's something complicated. I know how to protect my PC and this is not the first time I'm torrenting. But shit happens and next time, I'm gonna make sure it won't happen anytime soon.

    Don't make me laugh man.

so, tell me, what steps did you take to reduce the risk of some ip fishing firm to collect yours and write you a nice c&d demanding money?
such a purely reactive attitude without any forethought would be ok if you were a regular user who doesn't do illegal or risky shit. for somebody who downloads games from public trackers, having no virus scanner, proper firewall, application blocker or any other form of protection is pretty fucking stupid.

It was more than a year I was working with this PC without problem. So it's not like I fuck my shit up every month or so. You mean you guys never get infected by a virus?

I use an HTTPS protocol. Even if they find out about my real IP, they can't do shit cause of the place I live in.

I didn't use them because they identify every torrent and most of the crack as a threat and a harmful object. ( Even if they're not. )and you have to disable them anyway to be able to use what you want to use. But as I said, from now on and after I reformat, I'm not gonna take any risks anymore. So it will be OK.

I knew what I was doing. I just took risks.

that only applies to virus scanners. a properly set up app blocker/firewall bundle tells you step by step what a given executable is trying to do including receiving or opening any connections and asks you to block or allow each step.
