It's not the same ship. It's a troop transport.

Oh ye of little faith. I can feel the spirit(s) of this other ship is strong. We need it. (It has a still).
Tempting... but I am not sure using an unknown still is such a good idea. It could be faulty and create lots of methanol instead. Then we have to deal with a blind pilot who cannot--- never mind actually.

Compromise: Repair ship (a little) and buy a jetpack (or does everyone need one?) so we don't get blocked from all those shinies again. Also make it a priority to install a proper still on the ship to improve morale and performance. Maybe even a chemistry station (if such a thing exist), so our resident science "expert" can use those exotic herbs to create.... uh, medicine. Yeah, medicine...

How's the fuel consumption handled btw, one unit per square?

Seems like it. But I think that pilot's mistakes increase fuel consumption every now and then.

...go for repairs. In a real station.

A decision was made to ignore everyone and everything. We continue our flight. Apparently, all those fleets and convoys are flying the same way.

vjpjqfbdkd.jpg

They are trying to contact us again and again. We don't answer.

:shredder:

Only 12 tons of fuel left. Can we make it?

wwenkixpob.jpg

YES, WE CAN!

Dock us at the staton, Azira. Just make it careful, it will be so embarassing if the hull falls apart while docking.

Hey, look! It's Nadja the station commander, my good friend! Greeting us personally, coz SS Codex is V I P, baby! How r you doing, girl?

omrcnprstn.jpg

Oh. That... doesn't look like a VIP greeting after all. Fine, you may check our cargo. These? These are just, err, flowers. Just some ordinary SPACE flowers for the international womyn's day. No-no, better don't touch them! And, err, you might want to stay away from them. Coz, you know, very fragile and all that.

gdgbezajxk.jpg

Phew.

AWRIGHT CREW, this might come as a surprise, but the truth is, I CAN'T PAY YOU WAGES RIGHT NOW! *Charismatic skill* But one day I will. One day I will.

egterdjuai.jpg

Great. Party time, people!

mteputkytj.jpg

Cpt. Grimwulf, Matalarata, Hostergaard and one of the Nevill's clones (the one with a gf) get a promotion. Azira does not.

I need more money, like, SOON. It's high time to visit Triax Traders.

hrucgtqxou.jpg

lhbvffulju.png

4:21, wherever it is, I'm coming.

Now buy my stuff, you lazy-arse office dwellers.

bfoycjtrvw.jpg

That is rich.
- We've killed 16 aliens!
- The company pays us a loyalty bonus for selling data to Triax Traders exclusively. Do they even know that they are the only Megacorp around?
- We sold some weird "wormholes and anomalies" data. Which was probably Captain's hallucination.

OKAY, so after I pay you all dem wages you didn't deserve at all,

isjxgcmijf.jpg

Clearly, that's not enough. But don't worry, I got this.

leiqyitylq.jpg

Look at DEM FAMILIAR FACES! Wassup, cheaters! POKER CHAMP CAP GRIM IS IN DA HOUSE! Now gimme dem cards, I'll strip ye all nekked.

qaqqhtcium.jpg

Two players folded. Maybe I can bluff my way out of this by raising?

Long story short, it didn't work out. BUT THEN I played another game and pwnd these pussies.

rowwzkshfl.jpg

Now I have a whoopin' sum of 1045 Cr on my account. :smug:

So far so good. I feel an urge to drink and chat with random people. Besides, that tourist wanted to buy something, right?

ubejtwttln.jpg

OH COME ON YOU BUTTPLU, that's not even base price! I don't want to part with my favourite vibro sword, men. But we have rifles now, and the financial situation is tight.

... He refuses to buy vibro sword. No message follows, it just cancels the transaction. I guess he knows that I'm trying to sell him Schrodinger's sword. Oh, well.

Take my vibro blade then. 56 Cr is not much, but

rgnneokbbw.jpg

OH FUCK YOU

*Captain Grimwulf ragequits Casino*

Getting SS Codex into decent shape for only 1000 Cr. Now that's a challenge. Where is 4:21 even? It's not marked in my Logbook, but I can roughly estimate its position:

sbxormnczi.jpg

What the? ZOOM IN

pfrnwtpmgv.jpg

I need to stop using ms paint.

Well, it's pretty far from Spacestation 1, but close to Spacestation 2. We can refuel there.

Speaking of fuel.

ulmlxrofqd.jpg

Goddamit. Fine, refuel and repair 4 hull points.

spiokhxlak.jpg

Remember my refined decision to change armor type? That's why the repair costs twice as much as before.

105 Credits left.

:negative:

WE NEED MORE CREW! 2 securities can still fit in, if we use double-bunking. Let's see.

Trymon, Bliblablubb and Dayyālu's persona want to enlist. Those who didn't serve on SS Codex before have a higher priority, coz every men deserves a bit of fun. Sorry, Dayyālu - wish I had more bunks.

Welcome on board, Trymon and Bliblablubb!

1. Trymon

A highly educated 168/76 grunt. How long will he survive among Codexians? Can he even handle Lhynn's drilling? Only time will tell.

hslwufuscd.jpg

2. Bliblablubb (friends call him Bilbo)

Definitely higher than sqeecoo. Was born in SPACE, which grants him additional privileges on my ship.

nqewetochp.jpg

Attention, Codexmen! A minor change in your wages is taking place right now. No worries! Your wages are still way higher than you objectively deserve!

ehzvidkknx.jpg

As for dem jetpacks, even if I had funds to afford them, there's none for sale. I've ordered some, though.

xkygxehsxg.jpg

That does it. Start them engines, pilot!

nfajympghy.jpg

SPACE at last!

Time to make dat KEY CHOICE, officers. No way I'm missing on dat sweet 5000 Cr booty. Not to mention we might have a chance to scavenge a goddamn BATTLESHIP!

swhgfxkued.jpg

It's like all my dreams come true all of a sudden! So that's decided - our destination is 4:21. But We must decide on the best route.

hnsngzuaza.jpg

We try to find a way thru the gas clouds and gather data from earthlike planet, along with other planets we encounter. Then we fly to Spacestation 2, sell it, refuel/repair/restock, and continue our way to the battleship.

bwpokranfx.jpg

We fly STRAIGHT THRU, hoping that the fucking gas clouds end somewhere. Then we do the job; fly to Spacestation 2 to resupply; visit earthlike planet on our way back to Spacestation 1.

There might be other routes too. Anyway, I'm listening.

Going through the gas clouds sounds like fun. What could go wrong?
I mean, eventually, I should merit a promotion. Right? Eventually?

Route #1

And so we take route №1. The officers of SS Codex have a knack for making worst decisions possible.

ooepicjiek.jpg

If only I had a gud pilot, we would risk flying through. But alas. We need to look for a safe way.

Hm. It doesn't exist.

tsnowvnqxf.jpg

PLAN B, everyone. We try to raise some quick funds from this star system. Then we go back to Spacestation 1, refuel. Then we decide, whether to take route 2; or repair the ship's hull to 7/7 and attempt flying STRAIGHT THRU the gas clouds.

But meanwhile, Matalarata scans the system. Starting with asteroids.

kyngkfamdw.jpg

cbyvozabst.jpg

Nothing. Azira barely holds it together, wasting my fuel in vain. Now, dem planets (ignore the gas giant for now).

A lot of ice, but it's not cold enough for my liking. Any hot day, and boom - the whole thing melts. We need a bigger boat to explore planets like that.

vyylzqkcxh.jpg

I'm... not sure what are we looking at here.

ioisdvwvsj.jpg

Some planet. Let me see Orbit 8 again. Holy shit.

huutggluie.jpg

So. We have more than enough fuel (and a gas giant right there); our hull is in a perfect condition; 15 crew members on board; decent equipment. We are ready, men.

While I'm tinkering the Awayteam, you decide where do we land.

1,88m and 89kg pure muscles. Look at me, I am the very model of a man- wait, I am a man right? I mean we all thought Dayyalu was a man as well, until "she" went off to see her girlfriend on the station...

The horrible truth is there is no way to check someone's gender in this game.

:M

But sooner or later a message like that appears:

And we all learn something new about our comrades.

Yeah, definitly orbit 8. Huge tracts of land and many houses to plunder prospect, maybe even an industrial grade still. And since our spacewizard says there are no lifeforms, what could possibly go wrong? (Note to self: bring big guns against the mandatory appearing non-lifeforms)

Good news - some kind soul on SS Codex has repaired all our equipment. Not a single spacesuit is damaged. I'll just assume it was sqeecoo - dem hobbits are obsessive like that.

So here is what we got:

azidtziixv.jpg

Two sturdy ballistic suits cannot be equipped, as well as some melee weapons. Otherwise, it's all good. That's our Awayteam for this mission:

hwiegzaase.jpg

This time I'm taking all my officers along, except for Azira. He will pick us up in case shit starts hittin' the fan. All my officers get a standard-issue spacesuit and combat blade. Cassidy also grabs a rifle. He is a gunner, after all.
Hostergaard is a vet, thus he gets the best armour and a vibro blade.
Bilbo is a rookie, he gets a knife and a task to prove himself.
Lhynn commands the security squad and gets a combat blade like my officers.
Zephyr grabs his gauss rifle and a vibro blade - he's still the best melee fighter on board.
Lightbane is unarmed. I wish we could tie him up as well.

Ready? Go!

eqguyaeyla.jpg

Almost getting used to Azira's landings. Almost.

So. Roads, buildings and cultivated land.

tzvkagvmqk.jpg

This planet is inhabited, no doubt about that. Let's find the locals.

crbvynrqsh.jpg

A town hall.

oqadlepmoa.jpg

Looks like the place to go.

gjyyglcefm.jpg

So, that's a human colony! They have some fuel and basic goods for trading. None of which interests us right now.

Well, that was anticlimactic. UNTIL WE WENT OUT OF TOWN HALL

juokyirnnb.jpg

KILL THE SPACE CRITTER! PROTECT THE CAPTAIN!

yqrvqlmsik.jpg

This thing is tough.

hcercaxqsu.jpg

FALL BACK! Gawd, I really hope Azira can handle ship's lazer better than Cassidy.

arthawifhy.jpg

Suddenly, CASSIDY killed the monster with a single shot. Wtf is Cassidy doing on board? Well, APPARENTLY both him and Spigot left the awayteam soon after landing. Nobody even noticed.

Here you can see the G and D under Status in the upper-right - it means gunner and doctor accompany the team.

eqguyaeyla.jpg

But as we walk a few steps away from the ship, they vanish.

crbvynrqsh.jpg

No idea why.

Allright, this planet is a tad more hostile than I expected. Our team is sorta small for my liking, not to mention that Cassidy took one of the rifles when he left the team. The oxygen situation is stange - we can breathe without helmets, but the oxygen meter depletes.

Zephyr and Bilbo are wounded; ship's lazer suffered a shutdown due to heat. Let's collect the biodata from this burrower thing and ponder on our options.

DAMMIT

xmqdihiqxc.jpg

As we step forward, another burrower appears. BUT GREED IS TOO STRONG - COLLECT THE BIODATA ANYWAY! SECURITY, PROTECT MATALARATA! And the Captain.

fykfhppjsh.jpg

fuck fuck fuck

YOUR LIVES ARE NOT WASTED!

oozmhuyjxg.jpg

A fellow human witnessed your heroic deaths. NEVER FORGET US, RANDOM HUMAN! THE BRAVE HEROES OF SS CODEX!

zsvkphgnpg.jpg

RETREAAAAT!!1

prvvamufov.jpg

Lightbane and Hostergaard are wounded, but the Captain is just fine. Get us out, Azira!

yqfnueqyau.jpg

I did NOT like this planet! Matalarata, what kind of STUPID FUCKS would settle and CULTIVATE FIELDS in a place like that?! What the fuck! It was crawling with these creatures.

Damn. Let us say a few words about the fallen.

Lhynn tried to make SS Codex a better place. He did his best, but the task was impossible to begin with. Another life wasted, another girlfriend left alone in this world.
Zephyr Arsland was a good sniper and killer of space monsters. Zephyr loved his gauss rifle and pollen.
Bliblablubb we barely knew. He was an active crewmember, and a muscular one to add. But here on SS Codex, the more muscles and good looks you have - the sooner you die.

Heroes, we salute you.

You'd be surprised Captain, it's a thing apparently. The creatures keep the soil areated and soft, the occasional loss of limbs and kids is statistically deduced when deriving net profits.

Here, we have a record in our database:

Zephyr loved his gauss rifle and pollen.

Is it me or cassidy has a -5 to manning the gun?

He is probably the worst gunner in the Universe. That's why he's working on SS Codex, after all.

The creatures keep the soil areated and soft, the occasional loss of limbs and kids is stil statistically calculated when deriving net profits.

I guess bypassing prospectors who end up killed by burrowers also serve as good fertilizers.

Anyway, what's our next step? Explore another planet? Or land here again for some PAYBACK? Maybe fly to nearby Pollen system? Other thoughts?

A quick update on Codexian's personal life. Coz it is important!

Matalarata found a soulmate! I wonder how. And when.

ccijmqkonr.jpg

Spigot the Bear took his online romance to a whole new level.

kqmcdnxval.jpg

Seriously, Spigot? Online marriage is now a thing? Well, Tindrli is a married man too.

cfhtyhazic.jpg

He didn't waste any time during that last leave on Spacestation 1.

Congratulations, men! As your Captain, I want ye all to be happy. Remember - your lives matter! I would never put them to risk without a good reason. You all know that, judging by high morale. Well, except for ONE MAN

hanrbhgzxx.jpg

Oh, come on! Why are you complaining, lightbane? Tired of joining every single expedition? Of engaging the enemies bare-handed? Of seeing your comrades suffer gruesome deaths? You know what, I'm giving you a damaged spacesuit this time - that will teach you.

The rest of awayteam:

xusfmfhqcs.jpg

Lightbane and Nevill's clones get damaged spacesuits. Lightbane as a punishments; clones - because they feel no fear. You are sort of robots/AI, right? No? You can't fool Captain Grimwulf.
Hostergaard will use Gauss rifle, being a vet and a tough nut overall.
Sqeecoo grabs his favourite kitchen knife.
Tindrli gets a vibro blade, because he is a married men.
Me and Matalarata will use dem gyro jet guns.

Cassidy and Spigot stay on board. They would abandon our team anyway.

:rpgcodex:

Orbit 9. I spot gold.

Off we go!

Yes!! Finally! Is it really that hard?

In other news, now we know what is this stuff:

oneprykqig.jpg

I say we avoid it for greater good.

The visibility here is pure shit. The mapping process goes slow. But at least it seems we are alone here. No ground rumbling, and a whole lot of silver scattered around.

yrkxqoewcr.jpg

What's this?

lixyefadzm.jpg

Seatang?

nexklpfwbo.jpg

What is seatang?

crkaihldta.jpg

No, really. What is it, men? Google translate doesn't say anything sensible. Tindrli, go check it!

kaeglfkqkv.jpg

Oh, so it's sort of seaweed. Learning engrish on the go!

:happytrollboy:

Anyway, it takes quite a while, but eventually we map the entire planet.

tmqppdvujb.jpg

A lot of resources were gathered.

Even more is left behind, on top of the mountains.

We're done here! Back to SPACE!

47 fuel... Maybe going eastwards for just a little while, maybe 5-10 sectors, to see if any more stars pop up? If not, then return to the station to refuel then try the other way 'round to the battleship.

Well, these are somewhat annoying yeah. And the fact that you keep ordering your men to try to stuff me inside a locker whenever I'm in the middle of an experiment. However, the worst of all is that you keep rejecting my petitions to gather about 30 men and women of variable age and race. I insist it's just that I have the need of that many lab assistants. It's not like I'm trying to recycle their warm bodies in order to create an unholy mutant abomination, I swear. You're showing a great lack of respect towards the fine art of "exotic experimentation" (or, as the unwashed masses call it, "mad science"). :rpgcodex:

And I agree with the pilot as well. This party so far has lived far longer than what I expected.

Oh, Buddah in a handbasket, I'm dead. WELL I GOT TO SHOOT THINGS. I wish you luck, comrades.

Fortunately, my mind has been transmitted instantly and imprinted on a randomly chosen human being awaiting recruitment on some space station. I doubt I'll get such nice stats next time around, though.
