I didn't know jupiter had this many rocks orbiting it :)

Anyhow, populating far away galaxies and giving some planets to stars is ok but I'm not keen on procedural content in general. It's nothing but clutter when all you want is a real 3d map(RIP Celestia).

virtual planetarium is best description it has every object known to man in its database and when you go behind horizon it will generate new galaxies and so on.

Any chances somebody will ever make a game out of this?

honestly at this point he probably doesn't give a shit about "gameplay". He probably focuses only on creating best planetarium you can get

Does anyone else crash upon trying to approach a black hole? I guess it's realistic eh... But I know you can observe them in the sim. What can cause this?

And here's greetings from Proxima Centauri:

Also, anyone found a quazar, or is that even in the game yet?

Well, if so, good for him. He's made something really unique and if he wants to refine that until he's satisfied, then that's fine with me. The last two Space Engine updates have been fantastic and the game's crashes have decreased so much. It used to be I had to keep shifting the LOD and slow the fuck down in globular clusters, but now it takes slamming into Earth at 10 giga-parsecs to make the game self-destruct. There's still the odd occasional crash, but the usual suspects have been fixed.

Still, making a game out of Space Engine would be damn cool. Actually having some resources and conflict with the exploration would be a game I'd be very much into.

Well globular clusters are just lumps of starts. Space Engine renders all distant stars as 2D sprites which means that those globulars had so many stars in them it literally crashed your system.

I have nice rig and some of globulars really are taxing on system. Crazy considering it is 2D.

Honestly this is the best way to find out that world is huge as fuck and you can't comprehend just how big it is.

True, this is the only game ever where I actually sat in front of the screen staring at it in awe.

Go from planet to sun "ok this is a pretty big distance... and so many stars in the horizon!"
Go to another star "ok, this distance is huge... and so many stars all around... so many..."
Find something that looks like a nebula, actually is the big magellanic cloud which is a fucking galaxy, approach it thinking it's a nebula, be surprised how long it takes to reach, finally reach it and ITS FULL OF STARS

This is the most awe-inspiring thing ever.

So, I installed this thing and tried it. Aaaaand then I uninstalled it 5 minutes later. Then I thought, I should see it again. So I installed it again. Then I uninstalled it 5 minutes later. It looks amazing, it is a great technical achievement, but it has nothing in it which captures my imagination. Looking at pretty pictures without anything substantial to do is boring.

Travel through space. Realize that all these stars and galaxies ACTUALLY EXIST. It's quite impressive and makes you feel tiny.

When I started the program the first time I was fucking terrified after travelling with a few parsecs so I had to quit. Now I'm surfing the empty void between galaxies like a pro. :D Anyone seen the edge of the observable universe?

Oh and there are also a fuckton of mods. Anyone tried those?

I tried going to the edge but I have some issue with loading galaxies for some reason. Often, they just appear as single dots of light and the stars don't load properly. There's nothing there. Sometimes it works again when I quit and restart the game. Going to the edge would be p. cool.

I made it to the edge a while ago thanks to a miraculous lack of crashing. Got a cool screenshot on an ice world looking out into the void, can't seem to find it now.

Thank you DraQ - that little trick did indeed work.

I found a black hole, and... nope. Never want to approach that terrifying thing again. D: Though - I wonder how the one in the middle of the milky way looks. Any idea how to navigate through that clusterfuck?

It looks much more terrifying in motion.

Also found another terra like planet, beautiful rolling hills, 59°C though.
