I always get super hyped whenever I find a planet that has multicellular lifeforms and feel compelled to go and search for them on the ground, even though they aren't in the game.

Yeah this thing is amazing. I played around with it a bit a couple weeks ago when it was mentioned in this thread: http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/inde...ngine-in-2014-everything-is-procedural.92395/ (in the sims subforum)

My mind was blown with the possibilities. Had a great time just wandering around the universe, landing on planets and getting cool shots. I love that you can pick any star in the sky and "go there".

I want a Starflight remake using this technology!

Planet was named Excidium Nova after researcher @Excidium who lost his life earlier this year.

Excidium orbits Orange Dwarf star (1 year = 120 earth days) and it's warm desert planet with average temperature of 23C or 83F.
Panet is about half size of Earth but only has 0,3 of earth gravity.
Planet is like our Moon, always facing its star with one side. Other side never see its star light.
Due to its temperature differences on bright and dark side of planet, bright side of planet has Mars like desert composition rich in iron,
where other side is mostly covered in snow due to temperatures going below 0C.
Water in liquid or solid state on bright side probably evaporated over the planet life leaving only desert due to its constant temperature above 0C.
Exoplanet is very old compared to our Earth. Our lead scientist say that planet could be as well as 8,9 bilion years old.
Planet due its again dual nature has varied topography. Star facing side is smooth consisting mostly of deep sand layer and low hills, with very few craters.
The more we approach dark side of planet the more varied terrain becomes.
Excidium contains 50km height very thin atmosphere layer mostly consisting of nitrogen.

Alchemist planet is desert type planet with solid cool core scorched by its star which is very very close to planet itself.
It orbits yellow dwarf which in itself is tied to other star.

It has only 0,6 of earth gravity andit is only 3/4 of its size.

As mentioned earlier planet is very close to its star. Due to that planet average temperature is around 800C.
For a desert type, planet showed stunning amount of variety.

Most of planet is covered in two types of desert, one rocky rich in iron giving it orange to red hue, another is rich in (which is not yet confirmed) silicon giving
its yellow hue.

What is also most interesting is that as one of our probe photos shows, planet has liquid like surfaces. Our scientist believe its very thin layer of molten silicon.
Planet bright side should without problem at middle of day reach about 1600C which is Silicon metling point which would solve question about other side of planet which aside from few mountain ranges has very very smooth surface. Scientist believe it is just silicon returning to its solid state at night.

Alchemist also contains rich armosphere which is byproduct of its hot stone melting sun as high as 50km above its surface.

Excellent shots Perkel ! And I'm enjoying the space-explorer RP you're adding into it. :)

Keep us posted on further discoveries...

Did a moderator merge someones thread into my Space Engine thread, and then merge that thread into an older thread from 2012 which was archived, but somehow my thread title was kept out of all of them? :retarded:

Perkel, what settings did you tweak to get these sick shots?

4 things.

- auto exposure set to on (default is off)
- LOD set to 2 (default is -2 lowest) this adds ton of detail
- real sun brightness on (default is off)
- real planet brightness on (default is off)

Resolution 1920x1080 which helps a lot with all kinds of aliasing.

yeah there was some funky modding going on. I posted it in general gaming back then

Konjad is desert type planet, part of Ulminati star system. It isn't really planet interesting to research.
But planet have parents and one of those parents is of unprecedented scale. Konjad parents are:
- Very young (1,5 bln years old) Blue main sequence star with 6 times mass of our sun with about 450 000 km diameter.
- Ulminati Red Hypergiant of same age as its blue cousin. Hypergiant here is not used without cause.
Star is in its last stage of growth and it is expected that will soon (around 30mln years) will go hypernova leaving core which will collapse
and become black hole. Because of close proximity of its cousin, black hole will start to "eat" cousin corona and this will start process that will set back
star on its main sequence line due to dropping mass which will cause fall of core temperature which will stop fusion of higher elements.
In summary star from being blue main sequence will go to yellow main sequence star and lastly it will became yellow dwarf and then brown dwarf.
Nevertheless Ulminati size is just enormous. Our researchers measured that star has diameter of 6,3 AU.
For comparison our star "The Sun" has diameter of 0,00107 AU and as it will grow into red giant it will reach max 0,8AU which will eat marcury and venus,
but will not reach our planet. If Ulminati was switched with our star, corona would reach Jupiter and would eat it whole. Due to its size
its shape is not anything like normal star. It is not "smooth" like we would call normal stars surface in comparison but looks like about to burst. That shape is due to gravity which due to its size on surface is only 0.00094g. Which means star is literally like that because
gravity can't hold processes inside star.

Perkel, you can't just tease with that and then don't deliver. More deep space exploration pls. While we wait, here, have some magnificent eyecandy.

Waiting for proper WebM support so i won't need to create 100mb gifs. Also i am trying to resolve issues with AMD VCE via dxtory recording.
It should give me video without FPS drop but when i switch to recording then my FPS halves.

The codex is pretty slow on the uptake on new stuff, even if WebM is a lovely format that is a future standard I doubt DarkUnderlord will implement support anytime soon. I'm not sure if he even could if he wanted to, gotta buy a xenforo thingy for that if such a thing exist I think.

It's mainly because XenForo absolutely insists on parsing every link it gets and adding "url" tags around it, meaning any attempt at implementation using the basic "Add Custom BBCode" results in a botched link that doesn't work in the HTML5 video tag. I also can't add it as a "Media Site" because that requires a url of the site, and a webm can be anywhere.

There is a way around it but it's weird and strange and basically means doing something like this:

Code:
[webm=http://www.linkto.webm]Pointless Text[/webm]

Still that is a way to put Webms in RPGcodex which is a lot better than nothing ! Thanks.

Like i said i our coversation. Controlls are also crucial to webm as webm are just movies. Cotroller that would make them loop, mute, hideui and play on "hover with mouse" are killer.

400kb !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 30 sec video in 1280x720

For comparison this takes 3,8MB in 500xXXX and has like few seconds.

WEBM is the real shit.

60fps support
