My favourite part was the guard who kept on fighting after having been in showered in fire by the dragon.

It really sucks that you can take on a dragon by your lonesome self, herp-derp-derp shouts be damned. When I think of fighting a dragon, I imagine a seizable amount of people in a coordinated effort, maybe archers and spear throwers if dragon's skin can be penetrated by those, lots of pikeman to overwhelm and immobilize the thing when it lands, people with ropes etc.

What baffles me the most is that they mention a couple of times the “new engine that they’ve written especially for this game”... :/

Colour me blind, but that looks EXACTLY like Gamebryo with a few extra shaders... Not even a heavily modified Gamebryo, like in the case of DKS – which at first glance didn’t look like Gamebryo at all - but just pure, old, Oblivion- level Gamebryo with a fancy new hat and a couple of extra polygons. And better animations.

Well, I guess there is not much to be expected from Skyrim considering RP/C&C, but probably it's going to be a good enough dress-up/walk-around-and-kill-stuff-sim.
To be honest I really prefer Gamebryo's way of character controlling to what's en vogue nowadays: Unlike ME, AP, TW etc. to be able to sneak, jump, adjust the camera and so on whenever I want, not just when I'm told to (if at all) - so from a pure gameplay perspective this seems quite good.

Make it from a pure perspective perspective, because actual gameplay was atrocious in OB and not so hot in MW.

Other than that, what Tel Velothi said - you have a dragon which is more than quite a bit smarter than your average human, has potent natural weapons, potent natural defences, strong natural affinity for magic and typically had several hundred years to several millennia to hone its abilities. Oh, and it flies.
Unless you're genius, demigod level, *ancient* wizard, or a brilliant tactician with small army, cunning plan and element of surprise you're inevitably fucked, not a single roll required to determine that. Period.

And it shouldn't really imbalance classes from gameplay PoV, because, first, there is no need to balance character power in non-pvp game, merely provide ways for each class to play accordingly to its strengths and face fitting challenges, second, one quality your typical PC tends to lack is being *ancient*. No, young to middle-aged upstart adept of arcane arts may be incredibly versatile and fairly powerful character by human standards, but shouldn't achieve demigod status over the normal course of the game.

Yes there is a need to balance classes in a non-PVP game. If you don't balance classes and abilities then optimal actions for character types will be skewed. To paint a decent picture of what I mean, imagine you have two skills, ranged and melee. If you are fighting an enemy without any strengths or weaknesses to both attack types, a character with 51 ranged and 49 melee should benefit more from using ranged weapons. If melee is almost always better until the ranged skill is, say, 50% higher than the melee skill, then that imbalance screws up predicted character development.

Just watched another live stream of a presentation, it was bit longer than last one and

-Interface is stupid, unfunctional console pos
-Bringing hand holding to a new level, there was spell that draws a line to objective in a dungeon
-Horse riding looks improved but it only "looks"
-Character in the video made a some haduken looking spell that was cast with both hands
    -Sometimes locations looked okish
-There was some conversation going but stupid hosts where talking to loud to hear NPC's voice,
-Some NPC activities where shown, one was sharping an axe, and second one was working in a lumber mill, looked nice but i doubt we will see much of NPC activity in final game

well, that video didnt really convince me to buy Skyrim, it just added to my urge to pirate it abit more.

but then again, if i wait for a couple of months modders will prob fix all of those shitty things Todd put in and make Skyrim be more like the RPG series it claims to stem from.

but i am kinda miffed about how he claims its a XBOX HUEG world, but from the map i saw earlier it looked about as big as Oblivion, which was small. dammit Todd i want fucking HUGE worlds with POLITICS, FACTIONS/GUILDS and whores in every street corner and lots of NPCS in the towns, more filled then Morrowind in details, even if you have to sacrifice a Dragon or two, have it sport Daggerfall graphics or copypasta a guard tower 3 times to make it happen.

i want shit to see, villages to visit, caves to explore, castles to storm, horses to ride, women to fuck, men to stab, and i want to be forced to run for RT weeks across the wilderness to look at it, not from one end of a province to the other in 15 min like in Cyrodiil.

thats why i still load up Daggerfall (and await DaggerXL) twice a week for a quest or two, while Oblivion stands on my shelf, gathering dust.

Except you are speaking of usefulness, not power.

Striving for balance of *power* is almost always counterproductive unless we are speaking of PvP - even when we merely consider archetypes you can't reasonably balance a shady guy that is good at opening locks and staying out of sight, but sucks in serious combat, a grizzled veteran with balls of steel and a guy that can warp reality with his fucking thoughts. Any attempt to balance that ends up in heprderp. You can however make all kinds of situations that will make each of those guys regret they are not someone else despite disproportion in terms of power - if you're carrying a Davy Crockett and get cornered with a guy with a knife, you will wish for a pistol even though your weapon is capable of vaporizing a thousand pistol wielders from twenty times their weapon range.

No. I was talking about power. Because if the ranged skill needs to be 50% greater than melee skill to be more effective in general situations, then melee skill is more powerful given the same skill investment (time, in this case). It's quite straight forward. You can make the player regret their levelling decisions for all possible character types throughout the game, but if the player has far fewer regrets, or far milder regrets, or both combined, when playing a melee character, relative to playing a spell caster, then that makes melee more powerful than spell casting.

Unless, of course, you are relating "power" to "combat effectiveness". If you are then I don't agree with that definition. If a diplomatic character has a far easier time through the game than a combat specialist, then the diplomat is indeed more powerful, meaning that each point in the diplomatic skills means more in terms of the decrease in game difficulty than each point in the combat skills.

The more I see this game, the more it looks like Oblivion. I agree with whoever said the new engine looks exactly like GameBryo, if not worse in ways. It's fucking sad how they could make an awesome game of this type if they wanted to, yet they have to make it retarded so that it works on consoles.

Oh, and enjoy your extremely consolized inventory:

Agreed. But well, since it is a game, I think it should be possible but they should at least try to make it very fucking hard. A matter of your skiills both in-game and player skill, patience and luck. It would be awesome if for at least half the game every time you see a dragon you go "fuckfuckfuck, RUN!!!!!",it would add so much to the feel of the game.

But we all know that is just not gonna happen...

The game doesn't look half bad, IMO. Nowhere near as bad as Oblivion's art direction, that's for sure. Miles better than the current trend of cartoony/ultra-high-fantasy/anime art style that is so fucking rampant nowadays.

If this game had a highly challenging combat/character system, unintrusive dragons, interesting dungeons, and passable dialogue, I would *definitely* give it a try.

But, Bethesda is as Bethesda does.
