Review keys are going out! It's happening! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

There will be puzzles but no inventory, so maybe they will still be interesting but nothing is less sure.

They're "one-button puzzles", which means that they can be solved by left clicking everything on the screen; this was already apparent in the demo. That's what makes Silence a "Modern Adventure".

Codex 2013 Codex 2014 PC RPG Website of the Year, 2015 Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire MCA Serpent in the Staglands Dead State Divinity: Original Sin Project: Eternity Torment: Tides of Numenera Wasteland 2 Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 BattleTech Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire
The demo is pretty terrible since it's just an incredibly linear tutorial sequence with a couple of meaningless dialogue choices and a few items to interact with in a predetermined order. No idea why anyone thinks demo = tutorial area is a good idea. They could've at least made it longer than 15 minutes, too. (Why can't a demo be at least an hour long?)

The writing is overly dramatic, but it does look like the fairy tale part might be decent. Too bad the demo isn't really indicative of anything except that it's going to be a nu-adventure game, which we all already knew.

is there hope for daedalic now?

what will happen to adventure game? ifamous quest gonna stop making game, daedalic is declining. we've only wadjet eye as the lone sentinel of adventure gaming.
also ron gilbert and some sliver of ultra small developers out there.

it's crazy how adventure games are in a much worse condition than RPGs.

The tutorial area was also the sole focus of the Gamescom presentation. Either it's truly representative of the gameplay, or the designers just didn't want to spoil the rest of the plot. It's only a 4-5 hour game after all.

This was always meant to be a "different" kind of project, though. They aren't entirely leaving the 2d adventure thing.

:D

Kidding :) Very interested in Codex impressions, all the things I've heard (and seen) about this game don't exactly fill me with hope.

These guys always have a couple of projects running in the background. They have at least two classic-style adventures in the works, one of them being Devil's Men.

It's getting positive reviews from the professionals though, and that's what matters.

First day's over, and they've peaked at 208 concurrent players. Let's compare:

2,907 - Broken Age part 1
1,641 - Deponia Doomsday
0,208 - Silence
0,084 - Anna's Quest

Silence is by far the most expensive game Daedalic have ever made, with the expressed goal of expanding their audience beyond the Deponia/Edna niche. They've even been running trailers in German cinemas; this was supposed to be their big breakthrough into the mainstream interactive movie genre.

$30 to contribute to Daedalic's decline into barely interactive cinematic experiences?
