Played it again (confederate campaign) about two years ago. It has aged very well, still the most enjoyable civil war game I've ever played! And a solid classic, all genres confounded.

Played a demo of it ages ago when it first came out. I remember playing the crap out of it. For some reason I never tried the full version out. It was one of those instances where you'd like to play it but you have your hands full with some other game.

It's one of the best tactical real time strategy games. The way game handles army maneuvering is simply superb and one really has to use terrain to advantage. It's best played in multiplayer mode, because human opponents tend to make more interesting maneuvers and use of territory. It also works perfectly on windows xp and 7, but the user interface is feeling somewhat dated and interpreting differences in terrain can sometime be a bit of a problem.

Codex 2012 Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Codex+ Now Streaming! Dead State Project: Eternity Codex USB, 2014 Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath
A really good game, if I remember correctly higher difficulty settings among other things made available more missions, if you played on easy you need to fight few scenarios and on highest twice as much, but my memory might be incorrect.

Also the best Civil War themed game is Civil War Generals 2, if you havent tried it do it now!

Geez civil war generals 2... I played that game to death, and I was never much into wargames except for this and panzer generals.

Insert clever insult here
A good game for sure. In the big scenarios you really had your hands full trying to organize all the brigades but that's part of the charm. Terrain, manoeuvring and positioning matter a lot, which is a good thing for any war game.

These games need to be on GOG or something because I can't for the life of me get them working properly on even Win XP.

^ if you have the problem with 16bit setup , download civilization 2 gold multiplayer patch and copy the 32bit setup.exe , it works.

If you cannot launch game exe on XP, download the XP/2000 compatibilty patch, game works perfect.

Ok so after a few games the game is very nice, I will surely have a nice time with it.

I wish I was in Dixie, hooray! hooray!
In Dixie Land I'll take my stand to live and die in Dixie,
