Perhaps one way to address a couple of the issues I've brought up it to introduce a new Unity wonder under Archology that allows the player to plant Xenofungus and unlocks the Hybrid civic (With the Hybrid civic stripped from the Unity Hydroponics Bay). It's hard to say how well balanced such a wonder would be, however, but it at least gives one route to address the issues a highlands Gaian would face.

Another possible suggestion would be to strip the Unity wonders of their Great Person Points and instead have them unlock different specialist slots that give the player more flexibility. As it stands, I actually actively avoid the Unity Library despite the temptation of the free tech as the +2 GPP for Datajacks could really fuck up my early game progress. Instead, it could unlock both a Librarian and a Scientist specialist slot that the player can allocate their starting free specialist to.

That would also give you a route to rebalance the Unity Reactor to be more useful early game. The +100% wealth could be ridiculously overpowered towards the late game, but early on when you're sitting on 80-100% science allocation, that bonus only gives you maybe one or two more wealth per turn. Instead, nerf the bonus to +25%, have it unlock a Scientist, Engineer, and Merchant slot, and have it provide two free specialists.

Edit: And here's a question for you Mon that I can't seem to find an answer to: Any idea why my farms are suddenly displaying as +5 to food production? I'm not talking about five total, but when I select a Former and highlight the farm icon, every location is showing that a farm would boost food production by five.

Of course i know why your farms produce to much food! Its my mod....

Thats my New Feature sunseason! If the sunactivity is high, farm produce +1 Food, solarcolektor prod. +1 Energy!
    Your Display is correct.

But the Feature dont work as it should be, in Long Term. But i will fixed it.
    Please turn that feature of.

Ahh, makes sense now. I'm guessing the bonus that's supposed to only be temporary during periods of high solar activity instead is somehow permanent? I just checked the solar panels, and those were giving a whopping +7 on your everyday moist terrain, with an absurd +10 on arid highlands.

Is there a reason for the limit on aquaformers? On a small map I had a limit of 10 and that gets really annoying middle to late game. Seabases are already more trouble to defend, the limited aquaformers make rebuilding all the shit the fast lurkers/isles pillage when they charge in really annoying.

Now ya see the nifty thing about that angled deck on the top pic is that it's angled away from the rest of the ship and where the launch aircraft are prepping, the very reason angled decks were invented: planes became so fast they'd land, and if they didn't catch their wire to stop, would plow right into the back of whatever was in the front part of the deck.

The cartoon cartoon carriers angle inward into not only the path of launch aircraft part of the deck but also into the path of other landing aircraft. Which would necessitate essentially shutting down all flight operations for safeties sake to land just one plane negating the whole layout of an angled deck (which also has zero room to store any planes waiting for fuel and armament.

This is kids work. Someone tried to make something militaristic and made it impractical.

For the tanks look up the term "shell trap" and think of how many sci-fi tanks would become death traps because of those rule of cool angles and shit on them.

To torpedoes your argument by using those shoulder pads.

    Fuck those shoulder pads!

They gave birth to Blizzard's knock offs and both do their part to turn both medieval and sci-fi armour into walk jokes.

Holy shit, last comment almost two years ago. This game sure got shat on something fierce.

Saw it on Youtube on launch and my stomach turned over how barebones it was. Just a lazy, phoned in Civ5 mod without diplomacy, without great people, without religion, without ideology without fucking anything. Plus the UI and the art direction looked like a one man effort. Just grey panels, white pictograms everywhere, a muddy beige-green mess instead of a proper map. If you build a wonder you get another pictogram, indistinguishable from all the others. It seems they sank their entire art budget into the stupidly lavish intro tho nobody will watch twice, so grats I guess.

Then Rising Tide came out, people said it made things better, my stomach was still upset tho. And then I randomly saw it on G2A for like 10 bucks so I grabbed it. Played it and meh, not bad as a quick 4X fix. Rising Tide hung some meat onto the skeleton but now it just looks like a skeleton with some meat instead of a real, full-bloodied person. Diplomacy has some features but it's still incredibly barebones compared to Civ5.

I like the three different paths and its impact on units. That's good. Tech tree is not bad either. Exploration is fine but Rising Tide added some stuff that's just not explained at all (throughout my game I have NOT figured out how to complete the Marvel quest, I've never gotten any option to interact with the mini-marvels for any of my units).

Pet peeve - it's so sad developers underestimate the art aspect of strategy games. Yes there are people who'd happily play an Excel game, just letters, numbers and graphs, but for the majority the experience can't be that barebones. You HAVE to get some sort of juicy reward for building a wonder after 40 fucking turns, not just a low-effort pictogram and some text (remember the legendary movies in Civ2?). The UI can't be borrowed from a bridge engineering software. Yes gameplay matters most in 4Xs but art is important too. Moo2 is still the most colourful, lushest and best 4X there is.

Whoever is responsible for Beyond Earth and Civ6 in Firaxis should be fired right now.

I have no idea what would compel you to play this game but have you tried using the codex mod?
    https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=780912351&searchtext=
It may improve your game play by 1 percent.
Edit:Also you can forget any aaa strategy company to have good art,the competent art designers left a long time ago or are working for mobile games.

Because even the old greats get a tidbit too old if you've played them regularly for the last 20 years?
Thanks for the Codex tip, I was browsing some mods but the Workshop page is so fucked up I gave up soon.
Maybe I'll extract a second playthrough from this watery gruel.

Pandora is pretty good, though. Also pretty challenging with the last patch - the patch dev even had to tone down the AI difficulty on easier levels, cause it was too good.

Pandora huh? Completely forgot about that game.

Last time I checked it out it was just as bland and grey pictogramey as BE. But that was like 2 years ago. And it's 10 bucks on G2A too. Yep, grabbing it.

If you are gonna play pandora i recommend applying the unofficial patch available here:
    https://www.civforum.de/showthread.php?96495-Zwischenpatches&p=7813505&viewfull=1#post7813505
    Look for posts by AIL.
It is mostly a ai patch and the guy has been fixing the ai of the game for months since it looks like the devs aren't releasing any more patches.
And also if spies seems weak that is because they were broken when they were introduced(you could literally cripple an empire with a couple of spies) and they have been nerfed heavily.

I don't mind hex + single unit on it. But to call it Civilisation was a bridge too far. They just took a dump on my childhood memories, so to hell with them.

Now, if they called it Battletech, I'd probably had signed up.

I actually really liked BE & RT. :despair:

The main theme for RT is p fantastic, too, imo:

Music in general is the last area where Firaxis haven't shat the bucket yet. With the progressive retardation that's going on there I fully expect their next announcement to be some Overwatch-styled semi-weaboo MOBA.

Tried it. More than 1 percent. Definitely more. New batch of features was added just yesterday so the dude is doing a hero's work polishing that turd.

I don't know what it is with Firaxis games - XCOM and Long War, Civ5 and Vox Populi, Civ4 Colonization and Revolutions/Religions, Beyond Earth and Codex....Firaxis basically builds barebone platforms that the modders then use to create great games. Why is Meiers, the old infantile fool, getting away with this?

Yeah, seems so. Booted it up myself today after promising I'd play it for months - early stages so far but very promising.
