Sounds good, but Jesus Christ...They're really abusing people's wallets with all those promising kickstarter projects at the same time.

Also there seems to be perma death in. If a runner dies, he stays dead.

HOLY FUCKING SWEET JEEESSUS, WHyyyy don't I have a hundred thousand to drop for this?!?!

    Cumming buckets already.

SNES Shadowrun is pretty good, though almost completely linear game where you don't really need to recruit other 'runners and you have to grind a little bit, but the plot is good Cyberpunk though they take some liberties with the game - protagonist ends up being super jack-of-all-trades by the end. The Megadrive game is more faithful to the P&P version and is more open world like. Both are definitely worth playing with emulators.

If you have a P&P group, introduce them to 2nd edition which is the best, though I only touched 3rd edition. 4th edition turned it into a way too simple munchkin game (create a troll mage = rule the world). Oh man, I got a 4 character party written up in a Excel spreadsheet that has been waiting for this for years now.

Why do these independent developers insist on behaving like fucking EA or THQ? Go work for them if you have such a hard-on for their business practises, and stop polluting Kickstarter with this shit.

...no. Try reading the page and watching the video.
Love it or hate it (I personally hate it), it's not going away. For every person who realizes it's utter BS, there are around 1,000 people who will jump on it. I agree that it would be nice if people on Kickstarter would forgo this sort of thing for their rewards, but if it brings more money into quality projects then I don't really have as much of a problem with it.

I agree the rewards (game was) are just re-hashed EA money grab bullshit and retarded. But I let it pass. I can always not use that item in the game.

iPad and Android tablets are mentioned first (makes me believe they are the primary platform). :decline:

I don't think I can back this one due to the extreme possibility of being dumbed down.

The whole platform is irrelevant. Though hopefully there will be more clarification on stats and skills with the combat and game.

Yeah he mentioned pc and tablets, the guy looks motivated, theres a team apparently and i like what i am hearing, basically the pen and paper experience ported to the computer and some multiplayer maybe like nwn2 but turn based .
Back to the source to what rpgs should be! But again too easy to tell me what i want to hear...January 2013 ? with shadowrun ruleset? Thats kinda more complex than D&D if i remember well my tabletop sessions. Unless they are already working on it since a while i dont see that happening in a short year.
Ahem..if you pay something like 10k$ how do you get your money back ?

Sounds very good, especially when you add how he stresses out the fact how these different worlds intersect in Shadowrun. While production-value wise it won't be anything grand, if it even rivals the SNES game it's worth the money.

Would I be correct in assuming that this uses 4th edition rules? Also no mention of physical adepts - :decline:

Not necessarily. 2050 would be 2nd edition rules. Not sure if the guy had anything to do with 4th edition and wasn't that the one that introduced physical adepts?

Granted that doesn't not state what RULE system it is using. With that statement IIRC that would be 2st edition.

Physical adepts are in 2nd. The only thing the 4th edition did with them was renaming them to just Adepts.

I don't know, companies are usually not very willing to license old version of rulesets. But 2050 at least means no technomacers so not all is lost.

    Absolutely.

What I'm concerned about is that despite what others are saying, the type of RPG this game will be is uncertain. I can't really understand from the information provided if they will make a story heavy RPG like Baldur's Gate or something much lighter like a JA2. Tablets in themselves aren't that bad of a signal, BG is being released for tablets with hardly anything different, only a butchering of the UI or a simplification of the controls would be disastrous.

Tablets are actually enjoying a mini-turn based renaissance and many old timers would love to make the genre prominent again. If the games are just as complex as the turn based games of the 90s, I don't think we should be against this development, quite the contrary. Shadowrun will be a perfect game to judge if tablets and even kickstarter itself have the potential to bring about a true renaissance in RPGs.

Yeah I would like a very clear explanation of is this a stat heavy game (combat and in game wise skill use).

But the dude WROTE the fucking Shadowrun PnP system, so I give him the benifit of the doubt.

    For now.

    it's like we're back in the 90s!

These projects are never going to be a sure thing. If they wait until nothing interesting is being announced they could be waiting for more than a matter of a few months.

I'm pretty sure these are meant for the grown up gamer crowd anyway, just earmark 15 bucks for when the deadline's about to come up and the modern gaming consumer simultaneously forks out the same amount for ME3 ending dlc

Tablet and mobile support for promising kickstarters made me recoil reflexively but after some thought I came to the same conclusion

they could be very well be the cross platform GBA/DS of the PC, first ensuring the numbers to make product creation viable and then be easily made available to the PC where their once-grand numbers need repopulating.

observe the turn based game in it's natural habitat, possessed of a solemn dignity rare to other competing genres

I’m not sure I get the tablet hate.
It’s not like any of these games are graphical powerhouses, and even if they were most tablets are at the same level as the Xbox 3shitty. The touch control schemes are damn close to how you’d use a mouse. It costs almost nothing to put you game in the app stores. It’s piss easy to do the porting – hence the number of fan ports and emulators (Dosbox, scummvm, Starcontrol 2, HoMM 2, countless console emulators).

More to the point; turn based games (even stat-heavy, complex ones) work great. And you’re dealing with a market of millions that buy shit on a whim.

I’ve backed Wasteland, DFA, Shadowrun and Banner Saga – and wherever possible I’ll be getting the tablet versions too. I can’t think of any better way to spend time at the in-law’s place or during lunch breaks at work.

I think the main problem is that tablet games tend to speak not only to a more casual crowd but also to people who really just want to have something to do in the 10 minutes that you're waiting for the bus, which leads to much simpler games. Not saying that is what will happen to Shadowrun, just that that is the audience who are using tablets to play.

control scheme is not really the factor here, but sure it'll probably not be conducive for say mechwarrior 4/heavy gear 3 or rts games

the thing I'm inititally concerned with is how mobile and tablet games are generally, shall we say, pick up and play.
The audience is invited to assuage my concerns by referring me to commercially successful multi session-chain tablet and mobile games on par with 4x/TB strat games on the PC or GBA/DS strategy games.

Or maybe hey, this will be what tablet and mobile owners want too, something other than Angry Birds or charming pixel time management sims.
