I would love if Facebook were full of turn-based RPGs with combat inspired by X-COM. It would be a great (and maybe the only real) reason to go there.

Combat inspired by XCOM you mean?

Still looks nice, but lack of inventory and loot is rather sad. Especially since Shadowrun is gear heavy setting.

It has inventory, kind of. Note how the troll shaman opened his INVENTORY to get his fetishes out and summon spirits?

Lets pray you are right. Having simplistic nuXCOM combat is ok if rest of game has complexity and fun. But if RPG coveralls are that thin and just exist to move you form one set piece fight to next... :( I really want this game to be good.

Simplistic nuXcom combat...
Combat is already way more complex that in fallout...and it's a cRPG not a strategic combat game like Xcom or JAG 2.
No loot is no problem IMO, quest marker is more problematic.
But well for 15 bucks and a so small budget it"s ok, especially if we can hope for more after (and improving the system later is something they imagine if sales are fine).

There's a hyphen in X-COM.

Repeat after me: X-COM.

X-COM.

X-COM

There is not in the new one. When I say XCOM I mean the one without random maps, with total of 5 UFO intercepts in entire game, 6 man squad and no action points.

Duh, it's obvious in case of 'nuxcom'. But I've seen faggots referring to the auld ones as xcom. This will not stand :rpgcodex:

Am I the only one who likes the new XCOM cover system? I'm glad to see something similar is being used in this game. I appreciate how easy it is to tell when your guys are in cover, what degree of cover and from which directions they're receiving cover.

Your mom looks like a facebook game.
Your mom is as easily available as facebook game.
At least people want to have her, unlike yours.
Only because it's free
She's only free if you give her five of your friends' numbers.

So guys, you know what else has a tablet-friendly interface full of giant icon-laden buttons, drag-and-drop, and sidebar menus? That would be TFtD.

As for the setting, it basically goes that the world went on as usual until the early 21st century at which point some cosmic malarkey went down and people started turning into elves and trolls and shit and unicorns and dragons returned as well as people becoming able to cast spells. Dumb and unexplained, .

Well, its significantly more complicated than that, and it is explained.

The Shadowrun setting is plenty "gritty" of a cyberpunk setting and actually one of the more unique RPG settings out there that is able to carry it's own verisimilitude. When I saw the setting for the first time in the early 90's my initial reaction too was "why elves in Sci-Fi?". Now, I prefer Shadowrun to Cyberpunk. Eons old Dragons running corporations and nations is full of win. There's great mixes of cyberpunk, superstition, dystopian futures and even a little Post Apoc in places. The setting is more alive and full of it's own lore than 90% of PnP settings out there. You know Shadowrun when you see it. It has its own feel. The Concept of Shadowruns and Shadowrunners themselves are also just great for RPG game mechanics

Someone above posted the sourcebook primer. Anyone with any questions about the setting history should check it out. More so, check out some of the PnP setting books or even modules if you can get your hands on them. They are great reads.

Yeah, it's very boardgameish and the way it splits up the battlefield into quadrants means the geometry of what is covered and what isn't is easy to follow and plan with. Compare that to a game like JA2 and e.g the fields of tall grass where I am generally have no idea what spots have cover to somewhere else unless I use that "show cover" key in 1.13.

Seems to look OK in Shadowrun also, at least in office clutter. Street kipple probably also works.

I didn't hate the XCOM cover system but to me, the major problem with it was that combat in XCOM centers almost entirely around that cover system. With few exceptions, keeping your squad behind adequate cover is the overriding concern during XCOM combat. For most of the game, little else matters during a fight.

That's not what we saw in this video at all. Part of that may be that enemies seemed a little weak (which is understandable for a demo video). But other than the cover system superficially looking similar to XCOM's, the combat itself didn't remind me that much of XCOM at all.

Considering their low budget this game looks fucking awesome. And from the video and game's description at their page it seems like their main intention was providing proper and modern cRPG game editor in which every capable modder will be able to create plenty of incline in the future. I'm sure that even here there's at least one awesome modder who could make use of it. :incline:

Yeah compared to the budgets WL2 and Eternity got, I think they are pulling this off quite well.

I just hope this becomes successful so we can see more Shadowrun games, as they continue to improve on the engine and add more stuff.

I imagine once they have the engine and basic features working, it'll be much cheaper and easier to make expansions/sequels for the game. The sales they get once the game is out would hopefully be enough to fund the next part of the development.

Yup. THAT is what I am hoping for (expansion). And hopefully they will include new features and such.

I am looking forward to this game.
The loot thing can probably be corrected with a mod or two.
