Looking at the GIF above me, I am pretty sure this game's combat is going to receive many of the same complaints that PoE's has.

Even if it does, it will just mean that some ConsoleLoving assholes got 4 million dorrars to make what took some unknown guys $30K.

Besides, I doubt it :smug:

I'm looking forward to hearing what the verdict is on the beta. They've nailed it from an aesthetic point of view so I hope they can deliver the rest. If they do, its an amazing effort for just two people.

Sawyer better find a hiding spot for this is gonna hit hard. Years of talking down and scolding anything that's not The One And Only Divine Design of His ConsHoliness, about to be transformed into a hundred thousand unlubricated barbed giant fists of justice slowly making their way towards his asshole and once the contact is made, there will be no mercy between the rapid push and pulls such that not even the the most hardcore anal pornstar with the loosest asshole could stand a moment of it. The soft tissue of rectum will become a bloody mash and feel like the instant burn of lava when a deep rock excavation hits into a base of molten rock except this will not be over in an instant.

You've though about this a lot haven't you?

I don't understand why people seem to be angry or surprised that a game heavily inspired by Darklands is RTWP.

The new Torment is tb. :smug:

Def will still :takemyjewgold: when it's finished though. Love the looks of it. Shame about the RtwP, could tolerate it if it's not too clusterfucky though.

Received my e-mail last night, gonna try later today.

Edit: Gave it a quick try, had to download an alternative build.

For those getting the beta:
http://serpentinthestaglands.com/community/forums/topic/alternate-windows-build/

First impressions:

+ Character creation is cool, you get to answer a few questions about your avatar's background, then pick stats etc.
+ Graphics/art style
+ Atmosphere
+ Music
+ Writing seems pretty good so far, at least I'm certainly interested about what's going on, and the world sort of seems to be pretty interesting as well. Good job there.
+ Combat is a little slow in terms of turn-taking, but resolves pretty quick (fought some goblins and wolves so far). Pretty much the opposite of PoE combat as it is now. Good, I guess - at least you can control your party without a need to pause for endless micro.
+ Looks like some environmental hazards are in already, you can slip on wet surfaces. Looks funny.
+ Stuff you wear displays on your characters. Eat that, WL2.

- Font is straining on the eyes
- Special font is really fucking hard to read; pixellation + stylizing = not so good
- UI could use some more mouseovers, no idea what some of its elements do, of course, random clicking helps find out
- Overall UI wonkiness, but it's a beta build so I expect it to improve
- Unity

Overall, looks really promising.

I'll email Whalenought to see if we can get beta access for our backers who donated $35+. No promises though.
Shouldn't be too big of a deal, current beta resides in a pw-protected dropbox anyway.

Oh, a couple other things that I forgot to mention:

+ Can create your own party or/and hire henchmen.
+ Characters that know who you are acknowledge your char gen choices (Oh, you're the trickster god that likes to come around during festival time and sleep around with local girls! You, sir, rock! Well, not quite like that but anyway.)

i like the retro fmv-like stuff, though not sure if the woman at the beginning is supposed to have a wedding ring or they just overlooked it....

Yeah, had a bit of time to play some more, combat's definitely feeling alright. Going to try making a mage and/or use skills more often next to see what changes.

Had to restart though, since I had no healing items, and apparently there's no Rest button (yet? there seem to be "camp consumable" types of items, at least).

Yeah I don't know what they've been doing for PE, it's like none of the devs have actually played an IE game in 10 years and have forgotten what it feels like to play.

Maybe they felt there's too much "downtime" and watching characters wave swords and hands around? No idea, I've not followed dev commentary and such, I'm sure someone can run in and educate us. I rather enjoy the relaxed pace though, it's not an arcade game or an aRPG to scale off my reflexes.

I spent about 10 minutes in the game.

The beginning of character generation is really cool. Reminds me of King of the Dragon Pass.

The art is just dreamy.

I love the style of dialog too. Will have to spend more time later.

Oh, there's some funny abusable duplication bugs at the moment. You can recruit the same party member multiple times.

Said party member has a +1 magic armor on her person, as well as a shield and an axe. Not sure if it's 100% replicatable, but I managed this at least once so far.

Seems like a lot of text content is missing past the first two areas though. Not very surprising, of course, but it's sort of funny how there seems to be an infestation of foxes in a certain village.

Also, if someone figures out how to use the rope on the stinky well, would be cool. Also also, seems there might be a spot in the 1st zone that you can only enter if you self-polymorph into a cat. Gonna try later. Cool stuff.
