Charlie Brooker hasn't been the same since he got married and had a kid and stopped being angry :( he's like a quality-Hulk. He's only good when he's angry.

Well that's going to be interesting to watch, if nothing else.

I'm more inclined to believe that there's lay-offs incoming than not, though. Not necessarily a cool 1K, but some lay-offs will be occurring this year.

The conclusion: gamers are getting dumber faster than modern games are becoming easier.

Wow, for real ? Pffff they don't appreciate the increased profit they are getting, are they... maybe Fargo *should* start a Kickstarter-service after all.

I bet people are reading it as "We promise to give 5% of what we gather here back to Kickstarter"

If we've reached a point where 8 million sales fail to make a decent profit, the big videogame crash is only a couple of years away, tops.

    They sure are.

As alien as it sounds, this isn't impossible. Not in this particular case, perhaps, but you do have to take into account the production costs, marketing and branding expenses, taxes, retailer's cut, logistics and a pile of other bullshit. It certainly doesn't mean that BF3 was unprofitable by any standards, however, it may have been less profitable than expected (Say, 300 mil net rather than 400 mil net, which in turn fucks up budgets for other projects), which, yes, will cause cancellations and lay-offs even though from any normal point of view the amount of money gained is enormous.

Kickstarter indie dev asks for 20k, get 36k, end up having less than 4k to make the game with after expenses.

No no, you misunderstood me. Kickstarter gets a 5% cut of the cash pledged for each project, remember? So, in that sense, every project is giving 5% of what it gathers back to Kickstarter anyway!
