I got lucky with two Argothian Enchantress and an Exploration from the start, and it went downhill from there.

AI is moderately competent (from what I can judge), and overall Magarena is a great way to have fun with MTG without spending money or human interaction.

Have you tried Magic Duels on Steam? It's f2p and you unlock boosters by duelling AI/players and getting in-game currency. There are "archetype" decks, but there's also a deck builder that allows using all cards you have. There's a fuckton cards now.
