They just published a list of the best puzzle games of all time that was also full of troll choices (iPhone games everywhere). Seems RPS has fallen on hard times.

RPS has been shit for 7 years now.

Their community is even worse. It used to be nothing but lost consolechildren(not a surprise since RPS is a fake PC site at best) asking for gamepad support in every game that exists. These days it's those idiots coupled with a horde of SJWs. Really great stuff.

Oh yeah, they've been bad for a while. But recently they seem to be getting more desperate. Paywalling content late last year, for example.

Last time i checked RPS, some chick was making blogs about skyrim dicks or someshit. How's that even? What?
Ah, why that's Ms. Cara Ellison of course. She truly is a connoisseur of video games and her articles are a great example of what makes the gaming media so great. To give you a taste, here is one example of her excellent writing:
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/04/24/s-exe-adult-entertainment-james-deen/
The article is indeed excellent( I haven't read it, but seeing as Ms. Ellison is the symbol of integrity and relevance I don't doubt it) but more than that, the comments really show what RPS is all about.
Interesting article. This is the kind of thing that makes me love RPS
I’ve really enjoyed this column and it’s helped to spur me to learn more.

Thanks Cara.
S.EXE will be missed, it’s undoubtedly been my favourite column here the past fifteen months :)
They are undoubtedly a congregation of true gamers. But wait there is more, not only the community is so great but they are also self-monitoring, always ready to eradicate those fake gamers who try to infiltrate their ranks.

Can RPS stop bowing to feminist pressure, nobody reads these boring posts AND THEY ARE ABOUT SEX. Can you imagine how bad they must be.

How about you actually hire writers with half a brain who just don’t vomit on their keyboards and call that an article.

woah many go take a walk or something
Definitely. And as for the “I know lots of people in the sex industry” thing: that’s not normal, it doesn’t impress anyone and it doesn’t make your opinion more valid. I genuinely don’t see what anyone can actually say they learned as a result of this article. I want to know about games and yet the only reference was to some 2nd rate volleyball game and some suspect indy rape fantasy. Good ridden and bring in the reviews in its place.

Yeah man, god forbid the culture you compulsively consume be viewed in the context of other contemporary culture people compulsively consume. Let’s have no more questions of this sort, GAME-SERVANT, BRRRING ME THE RRRREVIEWS
If this article was about tractors I think it’d be very reassuring to know that the writer knows people who are in the tractor industry. As it is, it’s an article about porn, so she’s obviously just showing off and is probably threatening my masculinity somehow.

Is it about gender and sex again? I tried to keep myself out of the loop as much as i could, but shit's getting even on my nerves now. Of all the stupidest causes to whiteknight about, this one is easily top 3. Not even the cause itself, but they way it's done. It's like mentally handicapped person trying to build a spaceship, no matter how hard you try to hammer that potato with your big toe, it ain't gonna fly buddy.

Honestly though, of all the retarded shit that has been thrown in my face lately this was the straw that broke the camel's back. What is this pathological need to defile every single corner of existence with your pathetic, poorly thought-out, irrelevant bullshit. Selling out for Doritos i can understand at least, but this... What the fuck man?

RPS is shit because they have shit taste in games (prime example: their Fallout New Vegas review). I can't remember the last review of theirs I agreed with, much less the last time I agreed with one of their games of the year. They always end up praising console stuff over PC games and all their writers have been bad to mediocre since Kieron Gillen left ages ago.

The worst thing, though, is that they all have a very thinly veiled contempt for their audience and readership. And I don't mean gamergaters (who deserve all the contempt they can get), but just any readers who might dare disagree with something they said in one of their articles. The older regime (especially John Walker) was the worst at this. It amazed me how they could do the job at all given how sensitive they were. It's like several of the writers had no idea what the internet was or how blogs with comment sections worked when they signed on to the job, so they all lived in a state of apoplectic shock that some random, anonymous, internet commentor would dare disagree with them. Walker and one of the other guys (can't remember his name off hand, as he was generally a mediocre writer) were usually complete dicks to commentors, even the nice ones. Which got tiring as clearly they hated themselves and their jobs, so it was probably better that they put most of the older writers to pasture.

As to S.EXE, I generally thought it was one of their better features. It wasn't especially political (it's telling that Ellison never attracted the ire of gamergate, despite writing about sex in gaming for 1.5 years), just about sex in gaming, which I think is a valid and interesting topic around which to build a feature. The writing wasn't always great, but it was interesting to read about all the strange games I'd never heard of and some of the famous games that I didn't realize had sex in them.

The James Deen piece was awful, though. It seemed more like she got an interview with James Deen and was desperately trying to make it fit, regardless of whether it had anything to do with video games.

Juan_Carlo, wow buddy, we sure have a different perspective about this. I think Ellison is exactly the same like the SJW's in the sense that they write about this gaming shit because that is the only gig they can get. If they could, they would just write about their preferred topic: The oppression that is caused by the white cis male scum. Ellison's preferred topic is fucking?:? But since the bitch can't get a gig writing porn reviews for penthouse she is also forced to write about this gaming shit.

The existence of the James Dean article and the fact that it's her last piece is very telling. It is her last huzzah, a final fuck you to the people that are actually interested in games and are stupid enough to read RPS. Since she is going to fuck off after this piece she no longer has to keep up the facade that anything she writes has anything to do with games.

As far as GG goes I remember her horseshit being mentioned at least a couple of times, but if it wasn't that fact is meaningless. Ellison is a small turd in a large sewer, there are far larger shits to tackle, but that doesn't change the fact that Ellison and her work are absolute shit.

I'm wondering where all the Wolfenstein: new order hate comes from. I'm really not a fps guy, but this was one that kept me engaged. The level design and variety was superb, gunplay felt good, story was decent. Would prefer it over most modern military shooters any day.

The level design was occasionally interesting, but mostly it was the typical segmented garbage meant to fit console hardware. Enemies were overpopulous bullet sponges, and the gunplay lost its impact since you could dual wield any weapon and find ammo anywhere.

The story was kind of enjoyable, but it was laden with cutscenes and those unskippable one-on-one bits that are in every game now to make the villain seem unjustifiable and to show off the facial motion capture work they were able to afford on their bloated budget. Plus the home base missions were extremely tedious. One objective was actually called, "Find the moldy concrete."

My hope for enjoyment went away 10 minutes after I chose the difficulty. Take notice that I wrote "chose the difficulty" and not "started to play". The most aggravating part about this cutscene laden trend is that although technology came so far that devs dedicate an infinite amount of pixels to every pimple on the faces of NPC's they can't figure out how to or just straight up refuse to put in a fucking skip option.

Counter Strike was the CoD of its time, and it was always shit.

Eh, back when it was a mod for Half-Life, it was pretty novel. There weren't (to the best of my knowledge... I think Rainbow Six came after CS) any multiplayer FPS'es where people could die from a single bullet. Even making people sit out for the rest of a round was pretty novel. There were a few games with "last man standing" modes, but they usually gave poeple 5-10 lives before kicking them to spectator mode.

CS changed FPS'es from being bunnyhopping rocketfests to something slower and more deliberate. Even if we're fed up with it now, it was very novel when CS was released.

R6 was first but it didn't come into larger MP popularity until Rogue Spear.

When I see fucktards thinking the UT99 announcer is from CS because of mods I want to murder.

That's actually depressing.
