Describing itself as "FTL meets Mad Max", and on its kickstarter page as having 3X type gameplay

Convoy was released to an unsuspecting public on April 2015 after a successful Kickstarter campaign to Very Positive reviews, at least according to the Steam store page. Personally, I feel the game is okay-ish, but not something I would want to play for years.

Thankfully, I won't have to do such. You goons get to play it! You goons get to collectively decide what to upgrade, what dialogue choices to make, who to shoot, which direction to go. Along the way we will probably get shot at – your decisions up until that point will no doubt influence my success or failure in said fight and you goons get to deal with the aftermath.

I am dreading this already since I am sure you goons will lead all of us to an early grave.

Glad to see the RPGCodex pilots are just as capable as ever.

We're going to crash! Ahhhh!

Sooo welcome to the pre-game setup thingie

Since you goons are going to be at the wheel, I set the game to Easy for you so that the thread can at least last for three pages before everyone dies horribly. I mean, if you goons really want to play on Hard or do a challenge run or somesuch I will certainly let you, but you're the ones playing and not me :p

First order of business is to name our three vehicles! Let's click the little dice icon

k12eCBl.png

to see what random names the game suggests

Grease Bag

Small Sauce

Pink Bag

Dismus

Pink Rat

Monkey IV

Rock Chopper

Orange Worm

Purple Cat

Hard Dog

Grease Sky

I don't even

...Know what how about you goons name the cars for me since the game does such a poor job. There are three vehicles – pick a name for each. Then we can get started.

Pink Vag, Hard Cock, Dick Chopper.

Hey, at least I tried using part of those randomly generated names!

Road Hog (convoy)
Grease Bag
Oil Spill

C'mon, the names chosen don't have to be what the game suggests! I can enter in anything that is 16 letters or less.

So we can get this show on the road I am going to just arbitrarily pick three names from the bunch.

...Welcome to the open wasteland, where fuel is more important
then food and scrap metal is scarce despite ammunition being plentiful.

No, it's fine, you goons don't need to eat, we can skip this one.

TL;DR We need to find four plot trinkets to fix our spaceship.

If you click on an objective, it shows a little arrow icon next to the convoy
that points the way to the objective in question.

The Sasiak Milkbar is 205KM northwest from us.
The Ethanol Chemist is 172KM northeast of our current location.
The junkyard is over 140KM to the southwest
Last but not least, the Stem Bolt Monopoly is over 183KM southwest.

Lets just pick a direction for now and see what happens.

What do you think goons? Which one should we go for first?

Driving in Convoy isn't like driving in most every other game. You're not the one behind the wheel.
Instead it feels like you are looking at one of those old road maps that fit in the glove compartment but are impossible to fold up again.

cjeBCIc.png

If you hold down the right mouse button the convoy will follow your mouse. When you let go of the mouse button it stops and the game is effectively paused.

And yes, fuel IS limited. More on that later.

ut9i5YP.png

A fork in the road! You can save a lot of fuel by sticking to the main roads or at least driving through a valley instead of a mountain.

Of course it is entirely possible the road might not lead to where you want to go...

Also that red there is bat country Raider territory.

wBby51F.png

For the moment the road looks like it is leading us away from our intended destination...

rGcu42k.png

But then it forks off again like a proper road should.

The blue is Privateer TORVAK territory.

Oh hello you're a radio signal.

Something is guaranteed to happen if we go there! And it is right along the way...

What do you think goons? Should we drive up to it and investigate?

...

What a stupid question. Of course we are.

Fireworks! Woot!

Kind of a shame that there is no option to just shoot the guy right here and now. That would be a valid way of interacting with stuff in the wasteland, right?

We're probably going to be politely scorned, but seeing as we're crash landed on a hostile planet and are in need of certain hard to come by supplies, I guess we ought to try all options. Let's hear him out.

Since we can't just run him over, listen to the dandy.
