SPOILER: RPGs are not about combat.

Shocking huh? You're welcome to cover your ears and go back to "roleplaying" Wizardry.

I voted DA. But only because I don't like fpp rpgs, torchlight is mediocre at best, drakensang was HORRIBLE and I didn't play any others. So, any of those games worth checking?

    Knights of the Chalice? Horrible?

And Realms of Quest III was a breakthrough for the old Vic-20. Best RPG ever to grace its circuitry.

Only played DA and MoW, and DA wins that by a long shot.

Go and read a 'Choose your own adventure' you faggot. Combat is definately what RPG's have been about since their inception. Not running about thinking you are an elf whore romancing an orc barbarian, even more so in a single player RPG on a computer!

At the end of the day, in spite of all the rhetoric, most of the people around these forums just like graphics, elf/insert species tits, and really getting into the 'story'. Next Gen Codex for RPG of the year!

Edit: My apologies; Choose your own adventure books actually have multiple consequences for your choices. It may be too much for you in comparison to the current crop of AAA CRPG's and their 'choices'.

I'm really fucking sad I can't play KotC since there is no torrent. I played the demo, liked it, went for the usual suspects to get the extended version and couldn't find it. I still can't.

There's no way I'm going to pay for shit online (I'm hardcore just like that), and no boxed copy version that I know of.

    :(

I would hate to be such a poor chav. Don't worry, you will see some money one day if you work hard enough.

If you ever do see some money, let me assure you that the game has no copy protection so you can burn it onto a CD and keep it for all eternity. Hopefully more games will be produced like it in the future instead of the usual rubbish! Imagine that! What a wonderful World it could be!

So bear that in mind once you get a job and can afford things like games in the future.

You can say that again. Damn.

Anyway, King Arthur isn't out yet, but I guess it probably won't win roleplaying game of the year.

Whatever, voted for Dragon Age. Don't think this has ever happened before, but EV took the words right out of my mouth:

I can easily afford the game. It's just the fact that I don't like paying for shit online with my credit card.

Well I like to have quests I can solve in many ways depending on how I built my character.

But tell me more about why Diablo 2 is best RPG ever made.

You know, if it really bugs Codex natives that DA is winning, it might be slightly comforting to note that the poll is almost self-selecting for DA. By that I mean, when presented with a list of stuff to vote for, people vote for the familiar, so popular shit remains popular shit. But just because McDonald's sells the most doesn't mean it's the best.

If we had a poll where we rated the quality of the games on a 5-star basis, it's possible that KotC would get a dozen 4 or 5 star ratings, which might handily trounce DA's 200 3 star ratings.

The poll as it currently stands allows a majority of people who are only familiar with a game that is "pretty OK" to overrun a minority of people who have experienced a game that is amazing.

So take heart. The disappointing results here may simply be a flaw of the poll itself.

Well, you have to consider that putting it to a POLL is pretty much the same thing as the market. Obviously, the true quality of something cannot be decided by democracy alone. After all, democracy reelected Bush. This alone should demonstrate the inherent flaws of democracy as a means of selecting for quality. One might question the legitimacy of the first time, and he lost the popular vote in any event, but the second time?

Dragon Age, both on its own merits, and because the notion that someone might like it causes simpletons to have kittens, which is enjoyable in itself.

It has been a slow year couple of years.

What the fuck's wrong with you faggots? Mysteries of Westgate is leagues ahead of that gay elf porn simulator known as Dragon Age.

Also, tradition dictates that a NWN must take second place.
