I'd like to like old games, but I don't like at all Fallout and find boring Planescape. Maybe better stay in 2000's for a while.
Morrowind, VTM Bloodlines, Gothic, Titan Quest, Icewind Dale. If you stop this design silly business you can also give a try to Betrayal at Krondor, Arcanum, Realms of Arkania trilogy, Vagrant Story on emulator, Wizardry 6-7-8.

Joined... oh FFS!
Just give me the power of brofists and rating shit and I'll complete the poke-Dex.

Searching for my kidnapped sister
Hello. Can you, guys, give me some advice. I am more of a modern player, I would say, at least the kind that used to the gamedesign of second half of 00's, the greatest RPG experience of the childhood is Withcer 1. But I also tried and really enjoyed older RPGs, for two years now BGII has been my favourite game. So I have this urge to get this kind of emotions and experience from a game again. What should I really try to play? I am asking for advice, because I am kinda tired to try all this old-school games. Couldn't enjoy FO1 at all, don't know should I even try the second one, slowly and boringly going through Planescape, but since everyone is claiming the game stands out for its story I'll continue my playthrough. Really enjoyed Wizardry 8 and MM6 a little less, but still was a good experience, the open world filled with dungeons and monsters is always intriguing, love that feeling of stepping into the unknown. From my tastes, I guess I love RPGs for combat and character development, some sense of accomplishment and exploration, still not sure though if it is not some design and inerface inconveniences that prevents me from enjoying mentoined FO, for example. Definetly find all the modern interpretations of the old school RPG design great (Divinity, Wasteland 2, Grimrock, even MM10). Currently, playing Vampires, enjoying it, but still I see it more as some kind of Deus Ex experience, which is good, but isn't exactly what I'm looking for. Thank you, any advice is much appreciated.

If you dont like Fallout1, you might want to try Fallout 2 before giving up on that engine. F2 got plenty of polishing that F1 lack, and generally if you play F2 first, you will never ever rate F1 as better. F1 is annoying as fuck in some regard.
AAAAAAaaany way, if you want recommendation, I say trying Vampire Masquerades Bloodlines. Use the (tessera's) True Patch for an original game experience, or if you are a hipster following hype, Wesp's so-called Unofficial Patch basic version (because it's more like a mod than a bugfix). .... Oh wait, you are already doing it.
Anyway, after that, along that vein, Fallout New Vegas with all DLCs installed. This should tide you through spring next year.
If you dont want FNV for whatever reason, you might want to try Neverwinter Nights 2 OC. install the Mask of Betrayer for a storyfag campaign. Install the Storm of Zehyr for a combat campaign.

This list is dumb, you could just google "list of RPG's" and paste it here and it would be no different. Get some standards.

Planescape is a game aimed entirely at 12 year old story fags. Fallout 1+2 decent but not great. BG2 masterpiece. Arcanum total garbage. Bloodlines good. Morrowind good. New Vegas below average. Gothic 2 way below average. Wizardry 8 aspergers ahoy. Deus Ex good. MOTB good. JA2 good. Dark Souls garbage. Dark Savant never played. Krondor Masterpiece. BG1 boring as hell. TOEE good. Icewind Dale very good. System Shock 2 good but SS1 should have been listed instead. Witcher is garbage. M&M is so so. Alpha Protocol more like alpha protolol. Arse Fatalis should not be on this list. Witcher 2, same as Dark Souls. Drakensang above average, should replace some crap in the list. Risen wtf is that shit doing here?! Divine Divinity was good, put that in the place of Arcanum. M&B MEH. Mass Effect is not an RPG get that off the list. KOTC good but sad that is on a list of top 50 rpgs. etc

Also no Blackguards, Divinity Original Sin, Arklaash Legacy, etc just proves to me that you guys REALLY need to get a PC in your old folks home.

p.s. Also needs Summoner. Also Two Worlds is better than most of that list, verily.

Yea the cutting edge. Someone has to educate you dimwits. Also this list needs the first Vampire game, not just bloodlines. And also Dark Messiah. And also Septerra Core, Valkyria Chronicles, Eye of the Beholder 2, so much missing... so much hot garbage. I can smell this list from here.

This list obviously has the slant factor in it, nobody here actually have played to death all the cRPGs in history to do a fair and flawless list, and of course are different kind of rpgs in the list that makes things unfair.

Some of the best so far:

Arcanum: Wander around not knowing what to do until you decide to ask a passing NPC for directions or read a newspaper.
Arx Fatalis: Ensure an audience with the stubborn goblin king.
Baldur's Gate 1: Kill Drizzt Do'Urden.
Baldur's Gate 2: Obtain Carsomyr, Croem Faeyr and those great items.
Bard's Tale: Fight 4x99 Berserkers.
Chaos Strikes Back: Start in darkness, flanked by two purple worms and try to keep your cool.
Curse of the Azure Bonds: Fight the Mulmaster Beholder Corps.
Daggerfall: Create unique characters bending the game's rules and venture into massive, twisted dungeons without ever knowing if you'll find the way out again.
Dark Souls: You died.
Dark Sun: Shattered Lands: Escape the arena - anyway you can.
Darklands: Sleep in a village, find out that they are all devil worshippers.
Deus Ex: Enter the women's restroom.
Escape from Hell: Recruit Hitler into your party by presenting him with your copy of Mein Kampf.
Fallout 1: Explore The Glow.
Fallout New Vegas: Take Mr. House off life support.
Gothic 1: Refuse to pay protection money to the Old camp guards.
Might & Magic VI: Side with evil, follow an entirely different storyline and transform you mage into a Lich!
Morrowind: Find Caius Cossades.
NWN2: Mask of the Betrayer: Devour the soul of a dead god.
Oblivion: Uninstall.
Planescape: Torment: During a debate about afterlife, kill yourself to prove your point.
Pool of Radiance: Disguise yourselves as monsters and take part in an auciton.
The Dark Heart of Uukrul: Try make a map of the last level
Ultima IV: Realise that you've gotta lose a battle with animals because a Compassionate Avatar does not slay dumb creatures, but neither does the Valorous Avatar run from battle.
Ultima Underworld: Learn the Lizardman's language
Ultima VII: Cast Armageddon.
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines: Play Malkavian and Nosferatu.
Wizardry IV: Try to find a way out of the first room.

DeRp,wrong thread.

You complain about the Codex's picks for top CRPGs, and then offer games from 2013, 2014, 2013, 2001, and 2007.

:2/5::0/5: Needs more practice before trolling here again.

What the fuck does the date of the game have to do with anything? Your post makes zero sense. Don't post if you can't even think of something to say.

And I'm not trolling, I'm calling out a shitty list. This is supposed to be a specialist RPG forum yet this list is no different to the crap you get on pcgamer and every other website and youtube top 10 video out there.

This list obviously has the slant factor in it, nobody here actually have played to death all the cRPGs in history to do a fair and flawless list, and of course are different kind of rpgs in the list that makes things unfair.
I have. At least enough to know some of those games are terrible. Stuff like Risen should not even be included on any list like that.

Regardless, saying that the first Vampire game should've made it is insanity.
I also like saying Mass Effect isn't an RPG but SS1 is.
I wouldn't even put them on the list at all, but Deus Ex is on there and SS2 is already on there. SS1 was the revolutionary game, SS2 was just the sequel. The first game is the one that deserves the recognition, it did more and it did it sooner. It just never gets mentioned because it missed out on being seen by the dudebro millennial generation by a few years.

Also, with the new button parade system, the passive-aggressive manchildren of Codex can drown all the dissidents in shit & butthurt ratings to protect their safe space without even having to engage in discussion.

Some basic reading comprehension isn't too much to ask, is it? Lucky to get a response at all, in my opinion.
