So 10 is piece of shit, 8 is mediocre, 7 is not bad. Risen with 6 must be quite a good game.

I guess they use an inverted rating system.

Yes, the monastery has one of the better quests in the game - the murder investigation.

Soooooo... Even YOU claim that you're barely in the early stages, but you ALREADY write a review for it? Yeah, that's motherfucking splendid you stupid fucking douchebag, I wonder if he's getting paid for writing such downright stupidities.

Wow, all the negativity by these so-called "professionals" really makes me want to go out and buy this game even though the demo left me feeling indifferent. If the retards hate it this much, it's a cinch hat I'll probably like it.

Man... reading those reviews, I actually had to shake my head...

I guess these reviewers really do represent what this new generation of gamers want to play...

Risen was a very pleasant surprise for me. The first impressions I got when viewing the trailer and screenshots weren't very good. Thanks to the Codex, I figured I'd give it my $50 and I've been sinking in hours ever since getting it a few weeks ago.

The game is satisfying. I haven't played a game that has made me yell and curse and frustrate me so much, in so many years and I love it. The satisfaction of finally killing an Ashbeast or an Ogre. Shit, even being able to kill off a pack of black wolves was so much fun. Why is it so terrible for these reviewers to be challenged? I found that I had to change up tactics in order to win certain battles. Most games I simply tank on through.

I will say that by Chapter 2, I appear to be unstoppable to most enemies. For right now, that's ok, because I feel like I've earned it. But they should have probably introduced a few more powerful critters around the island since the Lizardmen are already easy for me to kill.

There's a lot of little things that you can find and do. Even making swords is oddly entertianing, but then I always like that kind of immersion in a game. I still remember making shit in Ultima 7.

The treasures are fun to find. They're not random so they're meaningful and the game isn't flooded with all kinds of "Hard Leather Jerkin of Fast Lightning +3" so far I've only found 3 pieces of armor.

This is also one of the few games I've played were money is really important. Early on, I was always short of cash. The fact that you have to pay for any type of armor and that the best weapons are bought, really makes money management important. This allows for fun little milestones like saving up for worker armor or to get a new point in axes.

The music is ok I guess. It's repetitive, but not really loud or noticeable to get annoying. I did enjoy the monastery music. The sound is also ok. The character grunting and yelling in combat can get a little old after awhile and there is no way to turn it off as far as I know. A few ambient tracks appear to have gaps in between each sound. The waterfall sound, for example, has a gap in it which I notice. All in all though the sound is solid.

Didn't really mean to make this a review, but whatever. It's just discouraging to hear Risen get slammed by reviewers and I'm sure it's discouraging for PB. I listened to reviewers claiming VtM:B was terrible and not worth buying and have since discovered just how retarded these guys can be.

I couldn't express my opinion about Risen better - you found the right words.

Maybe there are not enough Ultima / Wizardry / Might & Magic / Albion / Ambermoon veterans among these "modern" reviewers.

Fuck this entire fucking industry of fuckwits.

This bullshit gave me enough venom to actually a review properly. I'm going to finish my playthrough as a mage to get a good hang on magic, then start up as a warrior of the order to finish their unique quests and finally start again as a bandit to get a good hang on Ranged combat - should be p easy to max it out if I just focus on that instead of "balanced" character progression.

I started the game as drooling fanboy but the more I play the more negatives I see, so I'm hoping I can get some proper balance to this. Still a great game tho.

Haven't played any of these games and I still love Risen. I think reviewers just sucked at playing it, plain and simple. One gets used to most new games being very forgiving, and then he gets to play the game that presents a real challenge. In this case, he might not realise he just needs to stop sucking and start blaming the game instead.

LOL @ reviewtards, as always. There many things to critize in Risen. The fact that it is another exploitation of Gothic with all inherent flaws. Still it's more of a game than any recent 3D action RPG. In fact it's the only recent 3D sandboxy rpg that's actually focused on gameplay, not on being dork and mature, exxtreme B-movie wannabe.

Risen may be slightly above average by overall standards, but compared to the new console shit from Bethesda and Co. that get 10/10 reviews it's like a shining star.

This is unforgiving difficulty nowadays? What's next - Dragon Age is challenging?

Actually, the combat in Dragon Age was pretty challenging for me at times.

Played the Risen demo; brought back fond memories of Gothic 2 in that the graphics were pleasant and I can imagine myself spending a lot of time running around killing things and opening chests (and dying).

...top of my Christmas list... :o

I've put risen on hold for now. After playing for a while, I realized that I should wait for a patch, as I managed to break the murder investigation quest. I also suspect that the game desperately needs its own NOTR style add-in to really shine.

It's a nigger Christmas list - the list of things they must steal from white oppressors.

Nah the bloom already does a bang-up job (seriously is there anyway to turn it off from a .ini or something similar?).

I, too, eagerly await a very content heavy expansion/add-"in".

The bloom is especially motherfucking irritating when fighting in water - I thought I'll go blind when fighting in the half-sunken cave on the island south of Harbour Town.

Setting shadows to max helps a little. The game is still painful for the eyes but with shadows on low I couldn't play for more than five minutes in row.
