Tomb raping will be an Xbox exclusive adventure.

Dear Tomb Raider Community,

As you may have seen, we’ve just announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider, coming Holiday 2015, is exclusively on Xbox. We consider all of you to be the lifeblood of Tomb Raider and the work we do at Crystal. I’d like to give you some insight into this decision, and why we feel this is the very best thing for the Tomb Raider sequel we’re creating at the studio.

Tomb Raider in 2013 was a success due in large part to your continued support. Our goal has always been to deliver something truly special with Rise of the Tomb Raider. Today’s announcement with Microsoft is one step to help us put Tomb Raider on top of action adventure gaming. Our friends at Microsoft have always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and have believed in our vision since our first unveil with them on their stage at E3 2011. We know they will get behind this game more than any support we have had from them in the past - we believe this will be a step to really forging the Tomb Raider brand as one of the biggest in gaming, with the help, belief and backing of a major partner like Microsoft.

This doesn’t mean that we’re walking away from our fans who only play on PlayStation or on PC. Those are great systems, with great partners, and amazing communities. We have Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris coming to those platforms this December, and Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition is available on PS4.

We know that there are probably many more questions and concerns. Please do send them to us, and we’ll answer to the best of our ability. Meanwhile we’re going all out to try and make something truly special - the most ambitious Tomb Raider game ever built.

Thanks,

Darrell Gallagher
Crystal Dynamics Head of Studios

MS throwing that cheap money around again. "Why competing?"

I'm prettty sure that means Xbox and PC. It's a Squeenix game, they always complain about low sales (baaw only 2 million), and then 2 weeks from release sell their games for 5$ on Steam.

Yeah they were probably so dissapointed by the abysmal 3.5 million they sold on the first month, and then 7 million total sales, that they decided its too risky to make anothe one without a sponsor.

I'm sure this time they will share the far more successful fate of other exclusive mega-hits like Ryse

“Rise of the Tomb Raider” (Crystal Dynamics, Microsoft Studios).
In her first adventure, Lara Croft was forged into a true survivor, but she glimpsed a deeper, secret world. In the next chapter of her journey, Lara must use her survival skills and wits, learn to trust new friends, and ultimately accept her destiny as the Tomb Raider. Launching in holiday 2015, exclusively on Xbox, featuring epic, high-octane action moments, “Rise of the Tomb Raider” will take gamers to multiple locations around the world filled with exploration spaces that are some of the most beautifully hostile places on earth. In addition, after hearing the cry from fans loud and clear, the game will put the tombs back into “Tomb Raider,” all in the franchise’s gritty Survival-Action style.

Looks like Microsoft itself is publishing.

Lol Square-Enix is too fucking broke to fund it's own studios. Pathetic.

The likelihood of this being a long term system exclusive in this day and age, especially from Square Enix, is pretty slim. I expect SE to take the big micro bucks and turn around and slap it on the PC and PS4, with all the DLC, within a year.

But in the meantime, Off to the official TR forums to see the butthurt !

Back when I was playing the original games on the PSX, 'gritty' was probably the last word I would've associated with the series.

They're taking a game which is a sequel to an already-average game whose only claim-to-fame is the borderline fetish-level punishment it puts the heroine through and being source filmmaker porn fodder, and dooming it to even further obscurity by making it an Xbone exclusive.

As for the game itself, I don't know what CD is thinking, I just hope they go back to tombs and puzzles, not QTEs. Who plays TR for anything other than the environmental puzzles and platforming? Yeah, Lara moaning is gud, but in 30 seconds you get to any A+ porn video of whatever fetish you want nowadays, I don't think anyone should care for Lara's tits in 2014. The pyramids beneath the shirt were good back in the 90's though, fueled many of my faps.
There's also Ryona fetish.

What the hell is this video  This guy gives too much shit, I hope he's at least being paid for this
He's playing a character based on a gimmick that was already stale and boring a decade ago. And it's his full-time job.

edit: Oh, it's a not a regular in-character video. Nevermind then.

Meh.
People probably forget this, once it appears to other system.
One of few things that tomb raider did well was it was pretty. I liked to look enviroments and generally just appreciate the scene, not to mention playing as pretty lady helped a lot in that department.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...b-raider-xbox-exclusivity-deal-has-a-duration

Spencer's comments confirm Square Enix, owner of Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics, is free to do whatever it wants with the game and the franchise after the exclusivity deal ends, including releasing it on other platforms.

Time exclusive it is then.

Thats a pretty suicidal admission on behalf of microsoft. The exclusivity was the only thing they had that could draw interest to their flagging console. Now that everyone knows its timed they willl happily wait it out, knowing they will get a better edition at the end of it all. So what the hell was the point?
