Revenge of the Persian: Let's play Wing Commander special missions!

Next up there's a dorkir guarded by a bunch of krants. I am embarassed I got shot up pretty good here. The problem is your shields are light and your ship is slow. My shields got damaged so I figured there is little chance to win but I pushed on anyway.

Finally, the Krants are down and I take out the dorkir or lumbari or whatever it is.

Unfortunately I am pretty beat up, but I make it to the supply depot. Of course it's heavily guarded by heavy fighters.

At some point my computer targeting system gets damaged. I can't even use my missiles, except the dumbfire ones.

Finally though I take them down. My reward is five Gratha heavy fighters. God damn it!

However, amazingly, I am winning! Really nothing works at this point, my ship is a rattling death trap.

What happened next made me scream and shout and throw a worse tantrum than I have thrown since I was a little kid. I actually beat 3/5 grathas, then I decided to use a dumbfire missile on one because my guns were out of juice. Success! I hit it, and it goes spinning around. RIGHT BACK TOWARDS ME! IT COLLIDES WITH ME! I EXPLODE!!!!!!!

I couldn't even believe this happened.

So I come back and do it again. This time some salthi at that first waypoint run away. FIne. Whatever.

I kill everything else off, though, including the base. To get home I have to go through a minefield but I have no fuel left so it's a problem.

So I retrace through the nav points. Guess what? The salthi are still there. No big deal, salthi are not that strong. But I have zero fuel. I am a sitting duck. BLOWN AWAY BEFORE I CAN EVEN GET TO THEM!!!

If anything I was even more mad this time. I could not believe it. A few times I have completed a hard mission then crashed into the carrier because I forgot to request clearance. At least in this game that's never happened.

THIS TIME I made it. Whew. Tough one. At the end I had just one mass driver left and felt like I was tickling them with squirt guns, but I finally made it.

I took out everyone. Paladin struck out completely somehow.

Colonel Angus was so impressed he promoted me to Lt. Colonel!

Really climbing up the leaderboard, too!

Everyone has been acting pretty nutty. Now maybe they will finally calm down.

Iceman is cool as ever, though, just sitting there polishing his gun.

Iceman is not messing around. Of course, he doesn't stop shooting even if I get in the way of a Krant so....

It will be me. I am the only one who can save and reload.

It's got to be getting close now. Just a couple missions probably.

Looks like we should have the cats on the run if this mission works out.

It's getting close to the end, but I'll probably take a break before doing Secret Missions 2. The difficulty is a real ass kicker and I think it's even worse in SM 2. I can do it but it takes way more time that I want to spend right now.

I didn't take as many pictures as I'd have liked. What happened is 2 dorkir were there and I wanted to kill them both before they jumped out. There was a bunch of krant protecting them, but they are pretty useless against raptors due to the high shields.

I experimented a while and realized it's the high shields that make your guns rechard so slow on the rapier. It's super annoying. But at least I understand now. I wish there were a way ala star wars to shift energy to weapons instead or vice versa, though.

As you probably realized, after the tankers were blown, I came across a ralari destroyer and a bunch of gratha. I eventually went back to using full guns. It is annoying how slowly the guns recharge but the method of a quick burst of destruction followed by a long time darting around to avoid the enemy works pretty well it just takes patience.

Looks like I lied, and I am still using lasers only for this fight. Iceman is a good wingman and I am glad of it here. If any ships escape to warn the sivar, then it's game over.

The win/lose conditions are a bit arbitrary on missions and often not that clear. That is my only real complaint for the game aside from the fact I am too much of a wuss for how difficult it's getting.

The ralari finally goes down but that's still not all. A bunch of heavy fighters escorting a heavy cruiser stand between me and home. The thing is so big by the time I get into shooting range I always instinctively want to pull up. I have wound up crashing into them many times because of this. It's also tough but nothing is invulnerable.

Finally it goes down. Iceman gets the credit. I make it back. For once, I didn't even scratch the paint!

That last mission was really the worst. The scimitar just is not made to make it in a super long firefight. This one was a lot more fun, but a bit stressful to waste the tankers before they took off.

Kills per mission just keep climbing. Iceman always gets a few, too.

Another closed bar. They do this a little too much in the secret missions.

Keep on trondling.

The good news is we know where they are, the bad is that they are coming here? Mission briefing was a bit wonky.

Basic idea is, this isn't the final mission and we need to kill some ships, but not the sivar.

This was a hell of a mission. It got intense right away and I lost one of my guns almost immediately while going after a refueling tanker.

That was just the beginning, though. Already damaged, I lost ANOTHER GUN to some heavy fighters guarding another tanker.

Did I say that last post was just the beginning? Well THIS post was the real beginning. This time I had to face TWO Fralthi cruisers escorted by some krants and some grathas. This was really out of control, and in my damaged state to be honest I mostly just flew between the two fralthi taking potshots while I hoped Iceman would make some kills and help out.

I hoped Iceman would help me take them down. And go down they did. Slowly.

I also had to take otu some Jalthi, too. Really it was getting to the point of being cartoonish ultraviolence here.

Iceman took out 5. In the last battle he did most of the work. I really just tried to survive and take anything that got damaged down.
