So its like The Last of Us escort mission with this Moira charater?

Anyway i never was much for this series, my friend is really into this game and thinks its cool and hard, but personally i think the game is hard since the damn controls are for console, had it been twitch-reaction mouse and keyboard controls you would prob be circling those zombies like a whirlwind instead of slug-turning with gamepad and getting stuck on scenery.

Resident Evil Revelations 2 - Raid Mode Rundown

While we long ago confirmed Raid Mode - a run & gun side mode that debuted with the original Revelations - would return in Revelations 2, we haven't gone into much detail about the fan-favorite mode or how it'll play this time around. Welp, today we're lifting the curtain a bit so you can get an idea of what to expect starting on February 24.


How do I unlock Raid Mode?

When you buy Episode 1 on February 24, it will include Claire and Barry's story mode content AND 54 Raid Mode missions spread across three difficulty settings. When subsequent episodes release they will also contain numerous additional Raid Mode maps - Episodes 2 and 3 will each add 36 missions to the mode, while Episode 4 tops things off with another 68 missions. All told there will be over 200 increasingly difficult missions; former Raid Mode players will recall how intense some of the maps and enemy waves became towards the end :)

Will Raid Mode feature online and/or offline co-op?

Initially Raid Mode will be offline only (solo OR split-screen co-op). However, online play will be added shortly after the final episode (and retail disc) launch in March. The team has completed work on the story mode content and is now ensuring online Raid co-op will function as expected; while this means a slight delay in online play, the feature will be present down the road.

What is new to Raid Mode?

Lots! In addition to maps pulled not just from RER2 but also RER1 and RE6, Raid Mode also features numerous new weapons, custom parts for said weapons and four times as many character skills as before. You'll be able to unlock additional passive and active skills in a way that'll make your character unique. For example, you may unlock certain skills or attributes for Claire that a friend may not, and while you'll both be playing as Claire, the experience will be different.

Also, Raid players will remember how enemies would gain special abilities like extra speed or strength. This time around the bad guys have lots more tricks up their nasty sleeves, so you'll wanna pay close attention to your skills!

What characters will be in Raid Mode?

There are 15 playable characters total; each new episode you buy adds more to your roster, or depending on what bundle you purchased you'll also have Hunk (digital Complete Season) or both Hunk and Wesker (retail disc). If you end up buying each Episode a la carte, you'll get the Episode-related characters with each new Episode, and Hunk/Wesker will be available as paid DLC.

As of today we've revealed the following Raid characters: Claire, Moira, Barry and Gina, who you may have seen meeting a grisly end in some of our Episode I gameplay videos.

Refresh my memory... there's episodes, a season and a disc?

Why, that's such a specific question and I have just the answer!

-Starting on Feb 24, you can pick up Episode I for $5.99. It comes with Claire and Barry scenarios plus Raid Mode content. Episodes 2~4 release each Tuesday for $5.99.

-If you buy the Complete Season for $24.99, you get all four episodes as they release + two add-on episodes + Hunk in Raid Mode

-If you wait for the disc for $39.99, you get everything listed here + 4 character costumes + Raid Mode 'Throwback' map pack + Wesker in Raid Mode and a nice box for your RE collection :)

-Regardless of your path, all content will be available for purchase, so you won't be locked out

Regarding your question, players can use "life crystals" when playing through Raid mode in Revelations 2. The crystals essentially act as continues (re spawns) in Raid mode when players die. Blue life crystals can be earned through playing daily missions and red life crystals can be bought. The two crystals act the same, but there's an option to buy if players run out of blue (earned) crystals or don't want to spend the time earning them. If players have both blue and red crystals, the game will prioritize the blue crystals over the red ones. Again, these are only used in Raid mode and not in the main campaign.

Not long ago we ran you through some of the basics of Raid Mode,[www.capcom-unity.com] the run & gun bonus mode in Resident Evil Revelations 2. While the core experience is largely the same as Revelations 1 (play maps to get better loot to make better weapons to grind harder maps to get better weapons to... you get the idea), there's a LOT of new content in the mix.

--SKILLS--

Each of the 15 playable characters begins the game with a small number of skills. As you grind maps and gain levels you'll gain Skill Points and be able to unlock, equip and improve a huge assortment of abilities. Above, I'm upgrading one of Claire's starting powers, the Exploding Bottle; it'll now deal more damage.

Also note all the "locked" slots. These are level requirements - get the character to that level, and you'll be able to equip additional weapons, unlock new skills and more. For example, Claire begins with two Passive Skill slots. At level 5, another slot will open, another at level 45 and so on.

And here's Claire vs Barry at level 5. They have different Skills available at the start, making each character feel a bit different right away. Barry also gets his third weapon slot faster than Claire, which makes sense given his "buddy system" relationship with guns.

Back to Claire - we've unlocked and equipped Claire's Herb Storage, while on the right you can see Shield, which will be available at level 18. This process continues well into Raid Mode, as you can see; level 92 and you'll still be unlocking slots! The more you have, the more abilities you can equip and use to tackle some of the later, more challenging Raid maps.

--ENEMY ABILITIES--

As in the original Raid Mode, some enemies have modifiers that make them even more formidable. As seen above, these enemies will have icons that call out their powers... or you can look at them and get a good idea. While both of these enemies are larger than normal (first icon), one is on fire and another exudes electricity. The former will burn you and deal damage over time, while the latter puts you in a "shocked" state where your defense will be lowered for a period of time.

And then there's the force field power... this guy's shielding not just himself, but anyone directly behind him. Gotta get around that shield if you want to deal more damage...

Other abilities that'll keep you on your toes:

"Attractor" - A mysterious light pulls your character towards them. Protect yourself using obstacles or keep your distance.

"Sprinter" - Small but fast; underestimate them and you'll pay a painful price

"Coat of Armor" - High defense, low health. Especially weak to critical hits. Can gain a lot of exp from defeating them

"Vanish" - Invisible enemies. Find them through their dust cloud, and by setting your sights upon them

So, this seems like a tall order for our cast, no? The good news is that the Raid Mode roster can also dish out different types of damage and status effects thanks to the aforementioned Skills and new Custom Parts.

--CUSTOM PARTS--

As in RER1, you can acquire Custom Parts in each mission and use them to spruce up your ever-growing arsenal. However, this time around you'll be able to give your guns ice and fire ammo (plus even more), or make your bullets track enemies, or give your final bullet more power or... you get the idea.

The image above shows the "combine parts" menu; here you can combine weaker custom parts into new, stronger versions that'll be necessary for some of the harder missions. Unlock two Electric Ammo Lv.1 Custom Parts? Combine them and form a Lv. 2 version!


--IN-GAME STORE--

While most Capcom Unity readers will look at harder Raid missions as challenges just waiting to be overcome, there will be items that can help new players ease into the escalating madness that is Raid Mode.

As with RER1, you can buy all kinds of weapons and parts using the in-game currency earned by completing missions (BP in RER1, Gold in RER2), OR visit the real-world PlayStation/Xbox/PC storefronts for weapon/custom part packs akin to what you saw in RER1. There are also some items new to RER2.

Blue and Red Life Crystals allow you to respawn immediately with full health. Get 10 minutes into a map, lose and don't want to start over? You can come back to finish the fight, but at the cost of a Blue Life Crystal. These are obtained by completing Daily Missions within Raid Mode, and you begin the game will some as well.

Should you run out of Blue Life Crystals or don't have the time/desire to play the Daily Missions, you can also buy Red Life Crystals in the PlayStation, Xbox or PC stores. These are optional of course, and running out of either/both simply means you can't respawn mid-mission (which was the case in RER1). Some missions don't even allow respawning, so sooner or later you'll have to get through on your own skill if you want to see all the missions.

Up above are some of the unevaluated "albums" you find as loot drops. Once you're back in the hub area, you can unlock the album and gain whatever was inside (like guns, Custom Parts etc). Since these are random drops, some guns or parts will be slightly better or worse than others - basically like RER1. You can sell off items you don't want or need, but if you want to amass a heaping pile of albums and weapons, you'll be able to increase the storage capacity.

When you pick up Episode 1 on February 24 (PS3/PS4) or February 25 (360/XONE/PC), it will include Claire and Barry's story mode content AND 54 Raid Mode missions spread across three difficulty settings. When subsequent episodes release they will also contain numerous additional Raid Mode maps - Episodes 2 and 3 will each add 36 missions to the mode, while Episode 4 tops things off with another 68 missions. To list it out, Raid is split into numerous Gauntlets, each of which contains six Raid missions that come in Easy, Normal and Hard difficulties. If you can clear them all, you'll access an ever greater challenge...

EP2 & 3: 2 Gauntlets x 6 Missions x 3 Difficulties

EP4: 2 Gauntlets, one of which you'll have to finish and see what happens...

Raid Mode, the fan-favorite from the first Revelations game, is back -- bigger and better than ever! Unlike the horror-themed story mode, Raid Mode is an action-packed "shoot-and-loot" style game. Mod your weapons, raise your skills, customize your character, and master the missions.

    Episode One alone comes with as much content as there was in the whole of the first Revelations' Raid Mode! And once all of the content's been released, there will be three times as much as there was in the original Raid Mode!
    Each mission can be played in a convenient burst that takes around ten minutes.

    Raid Mode enemies aren't your run-of-the-mill monsters: some can cover their bodies in flames, some can protect themselves with a full-body shield, and some can even impart new skills to other enemies!
    Don't let your guard down, because some of the baddest monsters from Resident Evil history will be making a guest appearance.
Robust Customization

    Each character has their own skill set. You can choose the skills you want and upgrade them in the way you think is best. You will gain different abilities depending on how you combine skills, so experiment and figure out which skills work best for you.

    Choose from over 20 unique weapons, and take advantage of special ammo types to turn the tide in battle. You can also use parts to customize your weapons and take them to the next level. But nothing is wasted -- any parts you don't need can be combined to form high-level parts.
Co-op

    You asked for it and now you've got it! Split-screen co-op is in Revelations 2! Play locally with a friend and take down the enemy.

    Of course, you can play standard online co-op too. Can't clear a mission alone? Bring along a friend to provide some extra firepower.

Each episode of Revelations 2 will bring new stages, items, and other content to Raid Mode! We also have various DLC extras for purchase in store for Raid players. You'll be able to purchase storage expansions for your Weapons, Parts, and Album so that you can hoard even more weapons and parts for customization! A number of Weapon+Parts sets will be also be available to help out beginner and intermediate players. Life Crystals, available as a reward for people who play Daily Missions, will also be available as DLC.

More and better Raid mode, i'm gonna play the shit out of this game.

I strongly agree.

I am currently playing through Resident Evil HD on the PC. It is excellent. Looks like this year could be the best year for RE yet, with RE HD, Revelations 2 and the RE5 Steam re-release, with the Xbox-exclusive DLC (which was really fucking awesome - showed how Chris and Jill tried to take down Wesker).

It had the same structure as every other RE game since RE4.

RE 4 and 5 focused on two characters each (Leon and Ashley, Chris and Sheva). RE 6 featured more, but each set of characters had their own mini-campaign. Revelations kept jumping between different characters, and some of the chapters half way through felt a bit weird. The chapters on the ship were the best. I think that was what RPGMaster meant.

Anyway:



They are repeating the biggest problem the first Revelations had, which was the lack of enemy diversity. At least now enemies can have special properties attached to them. But still looks far inferior to what RE6 achieved with Mercenaries and Onslaught modes. I also noticed the amount of upgrades available, which is probably made to compensate for a shallow combat system.

Are you talking about Raid mode now, or the story mode? I think you're mixing them up, they're pretty much 2 separate games.

Story mode - standard RE experience
Raid mode - action RPG/Diablo clone

I don't understand why people are getting their hopes up for this. Looks exactly like RE6 to me, which was mostly popamole.

Because we are idiots and are hoping for that great new Resident evil game and the first revelations was almost there with some short comings. It is hope dammit. The most retarded thing in the world.

I bought Revelations because it was p. good. Then i've fallen in love with Raid mode so i pre-ordered this one as soon as it was available, because it has more Raid mode.

Admittedly though, Capcom's retro-esque popamole shooting looks kinda fun as opposed to braindead Western shooters. Perhaps it could turn out to be a little sleeper hit like Binary Domain....
