root, what are the potential consequences of having the scout compromised? Wrong intel? Revealing ourselves? Something worse? Do we have a channel with it through which we can be hacked?

If it's just giving the intel to enemy, then using the skimmer might be bad in case of surprise moves (B, D, maybe E?), but more direct measures would not be affected much by it.

you can't be hacked through the scout, no, but you'll get wrong intel if it's compromised. it's also using your cloaking algorithm, so if it gets compromised and you dont realize it, it wont work vs CIs1/2. Altho you may as well just change it after you send the scout off anyway, come to think of it, so that's very minor.

Query: Can we still try to access the archive?

Not sure if it would be wise to divert our attention to it regardless.

Query: You mentioned we 'blink'. I assume this is some form of teleportation. What is the limit? Presumably we could not just teleport to CI4, but if we collapse some parts of the complex, could we or the corrupted CIs still move through obstructions?

No. You don't have access to any systems other than your local military infrastructure atm. and the comms channel with CI4.

Short-range teleportation is allowed for you personally, most of your troops don't have that capacity. Presumably the same goes for the CIs (only their primary 'leader' unit would have blink), unless they've activated the MASS ships. In that sense, you yourself could move through obstructions with more ease (altho teleporting into a mound of dirt will do you no good), but not by much.

Changed my vote to 1AC. The drawbacks of utilizing the skimmer don't look too awful.

I see no real downside to being unable to mount an attack. Soon enough we'll have 3 more CIs online with full systems and be able to simply over power our foes.

All we need do is hold out long enough.

Also, I think bringing the natives into this is a horrible idea. Don't you fools watch star trek? This never works out.

So I vote: 1AE

Let's get some eyes up so we have some idea what's happening. Maybe flenser is biding its time and most of these actions are overly hasty and will only hamper our long term effectiveness.

Then let's take the option we know will give us time and will cause the last long term harm, rigging the tunnels.

Finally, systems can be rebuilt, CIs cannot (I assume). So let's make sure CI3 is recoverable.

I am also considering D, but I have not finished considering it

OMG. We're Necrons. We have Gauss Rifles, Monoliths, Scarabs, and our technology glows green. We even have reanimation protocols!

You look at the holo attached to CI3’s message. It depicts what seems to be a malformed standard infantry template drone. The legs are many-jointed and reverse-kneed, the torso is bent as to appear humpbacked, and the fingers have been replaced by what appear to be long, mono-edged flensing blades. The design is not altogether alien to you, but there is a certain wrongness to it that underscores its mongrel origin. This could never be a design of the All-Possibility.

No matter. Without the CCC protocols, there is nothing to be done but cautiously monitor the battle from a distance. Even that will prove difficult, with collapsed structures and the nearness of an invasive virus. You turn to the Crescent and synchronize with your fellow CIs. This is a rather crude method of coordination, but it shouldn’t be much longer until an authoritative parent node or nexus gives you clearance for the OM. All goes well within their habitats; systems are being brought back online, processes run in the timeframe expected of them. The decoding of the indigenous species’ languages proceeds apace, but both have proven more complex than anticipated. Time elapsed since reanimation, 930 seconds, Sol Standard.

The macrodiagnostics system is feeding endless streams of data into the computational cores, simulating local weather, global weather, seismic phenomena, in-system phenomena and tracing the course of potential asteroid impacts. The global communications network is being monitored but its activity remains much the same as before. A closer look at the two species inhabiting the planet would seem to suggest they are not indigenous after all. Analysis of their technology shows compounds available only in trace amounts within this star system. Exotic materials on their space-drives seem to suggest some sort of capacity for FTL navigation, although the lack of FTL comms still puzzles you. Both species cultivate plants and herd animals whose physiology is too distinct to be indigenous to the planet, and both seem to be attempting a low-level terraforming process. You cannot detect any in-system ships from either species apart from a few orbital tugs. No combat ships are apparent. Crescent suggests this is a fringe colony, with high probability.

Simulations suggest both species are at least 2 tech-levels below your own, SK scale, although both species’ military capabilities seem to belie that fact, which further suggests both species to be of an aggressive expansionist/militarist bent, to the detriment of infrastructure. One of the species, the more physically frail one, relies on exoskeletons for military operations. Their pulse/plasma weaponry may well prove capable of damaging your SIT drones and other disposable troops. That is no great concern. The opposing side’s infantry is paltry in comparison, equipped only with the most primitive of lasers and some sort of padded uniform. It seems to make up for this lack with an overwhelming amount of armoured vehicles. This apparently allows these species, apparently antagonistic, to exist in a state of precarious equilibrium. There is some trade between the species.

You look at the generator readouts. Without the risk of imminent combat, you can give yourself the luxury of allowing the power grid to intensify slowly and with minimum degradation of its physical components. Macrodiagnostics sounds a low-intensity alarm: A squad of the exoskeleton-wearing species has breached one of the surface access tunnels to your complex. They are many kilometres away, and unlikely to come anywhere close to your CIs. Still, they are isolated, and this could present an interesting opportunity. Time elapsed since reanimation, 950 seconds.

1) Mount a skirmish team and proceed to attack. This will give you a grasp of their battle tactics, and any captured individual/equipment can be valuable. That, however, may arouse the suspicion of their species and lead to deeper raids within your territory.

2) Leave them and simply monitor them closely. The probability of them breaching through the camouflage and maze-traps to reach you is 0.00035%. If that should happen, they can be promptly annihilated.

Now to more pressing matters. The archive remains damaged, and all systems have been showing signs of instability since the hard reboot.

A) Concentrate on repairing the archive.

B) Concentrate on systems maintenance.

I like to thoroughly observe something before reacting to it, especially when existing knowledge about their behaviour is extremely limited

I also like to have practical capabilities over theoretical ones.

Our systems seemed to be programmed to gain information about the natives. So lets follow that lead and gather some intel.

I agree with Excommunicator on the second issue.

So we're Necrons after all, the old school ones to be specific. What a shame, I was looking forward to a TA's CYOA. Anyway, that makes clear what our Prime Directive is: :killitwithfire::killitwithfire:
However, there's no need to rush. 2B. We can learn more about the natives before their inevitable extermination.:M

2B.
We have overloaded the generators to bring the WAUs up from stasis. Maintenance is in order.
