I like how much smaller the sprites seem to be. Feels less in-my-face

I am not sure about this but I believe this version will have native controller support? I certainly hope so as I had to go through x360ce just to play the game with the controller as I am most comfortable playing these kinds of games with one.

advertisements that make me not want to buy things I was interested in

So like what's the difference? As I understand it:

Not flash anymore, presumably this means no slowdowns, it will run on older crappy CPUs, it will have save and quit, it will run at very high FPS, it will have graphical effects (e.g. lighting)? Real joystick support? Otherwise it looks pixelshitty for no reason because they're using very low quality bitmaps instead of vector graphics.

+ more content and co-op shit that will be a 15 minute gimmick before we both get sick of it

?? Is that a good summary?

Also is this gonna be on phones? Is that why they'd go with such low pixel bitmaps?

I like the game! I think it's fun, I like the control scheme and the simplicity, I like almost all the the hand made rooms that all have to work from four different entry points and and I appreciate how much work that was. I like Binding of Isaac. Seriously I haven't been following Rebirth pardon my flippant run on sentence tone I affect sometimes.

But why are the bitmaps so low quality for real, that is gonna be horrible on a big monitor

Edit - and the music

advertisements that make me not want to buy things I was interested in

So like what's the difference? As I understand it:

Not flash anymore, presumably this means no slowdowns, it will run on older crappy CPUs, it will have save and quit, it will run at very high FPS, it will have graphical effects (e.g. lighting)? Real joystick support? Otherwise it looks pixelshitty for no reason because they're using very low quality bitmaps instead of vector graphics.

+ more content and co-op shit that will be a 15 minute gimmick before we both get sick of it

?? Is that a good summary?
It's just more content.
Everything you said could be done in flash, even the pixel-art part.
Vector is just a choice of graphic processing, you can even use vectors in UE4 if you feel like.
So yeah, no, new binding of isaac means new binding of isaac, edmund refined and added more content, the change of style in art and music is just to "commemorate" this shift of content.

Pretty much what Gozma said. It's a remake of the old game.

Edmund wanted to have a simple remake of Isaac but there's so much new shit that it can be considered almost a sequel at this point.
-New graphics
-New monsters/bosses
-New items (200+ in old game, 500+ in new)
-New item types(?)
-New dungeon layouts
-Proper controller support
-Proper resolution support
-New musics/remade sound effects
-New characters/Edited old chars
-New seed system (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O657yvvdn2o)
-New challenges
-Co-op

I do wish they had upped the resolution of the graphics a little. They look a bit crummy at the moment. I of course judge by videos alone.
Two more months and we'll see! (cant. fucking. wait!)

[Edit] It's getting released for Vita as well.

[Edit 2] Apparently there will be "tons" of new graphical filters, one of them being a filter that makes the game look like the flash version. We will know more next monday.

I could buy the idea it's a purely stylistic choice if so much shit wasn't just obviously super low res bitmap renders of the old vector art. The stuff that's new pixel art (like some skull objects on the ground, or the metal squares for example) that are obviously made by someone else than McMillan look good, but then you have shit like old enemies that are just low res renders of the vector art that come out as a nasty blob. Or the damn loading screens and intro, they are 100% just super low res renders of the old vector art that look like complete shit. Plus the fact you are combining real pixel art with crappy vector renders gives a mismatched look. You can't fix that with a filter, and there's no way anyone thinks that they look good.

Edit - And think of things like the little face details Isaac would get from items like the ouija board - that shit is completely gone and lost in the low res bitmaps. There haaaaaas to have been some kind of platform reason for this shit, no one sane would intentionally obliterate their own art appeal that way.

Can be bought now. 14.99 (33% off if you have previous games I believe). Already in second place for steam sales.

Yeah, he said it in one interview he always wanted BOI to be in pixel-art, cause he was originally imitating Zelda LttP's dungeons.
Thats really the reason behind it, no technical issues involved.
Theres this really annoying paradigm in the gamer community that Flash is a bad platform. Its not, its actually really good and still used by a lot of people for games you wouldn't even imagine.
The thing is that when it was way too popular, people didn't know how to use it and made a lot of shitty games, giving it it's bad fame.
But again, flash handles bitmap processing flawlessly and also handles physics and memory storage without any issues. But the people that usually chose flash as a primary engine don't know how to do shit like that.
Giving this argument, the choice behind the changes in graphics is purely aesthetic.
If you don't believe me, ask Edmund himself.

The thing is there are tons of decisions in BoI design that are terrible for pixellated bitmap graphics. Like for example, all the items in the game that scale bullets/Isaac. Isaac picks up a magic mushroom and his head gets bigger, but because it's now a sprite game they have to scale up this incredibly low res bitmap head sprite to be twice as big, and now it doesn't match the resolution of anything else in the game. No one that does decent pixel graphics would tolerate pixel mismatches, much less blowing up sprites without rescaling. It looks fucking awful. Either the guy is a tasteless idiot or he's bullshitting.
