I posted this in the Dark Souls dicussion thread, but it deserves its own thread. Ars Technica decided to randomly sample Steam users with public profiles to estimate total sales data (pretty standard practice, even most "official" sales numbers are just doing this with retailers).

This should help give actual estimates of the Steam market size and stops publishers from pulling bullshit about how "low" PC sales are (without giving numbers) or not counting digital sales on stock reports (even though that is the one number you should know to at least the tens digit...)

Note that games that don't require Steam activation will be lower than the full amount by a decent margin.
