For kicks, Clocktower hasn't been mentioned. Haven't played it, haven't tried.

There's no english version: you set the language in the options IIRC.

Its PC game even if it was not intended for PC. My cousin and I we used to play it all the time. And by that I mean she used to watch and I used to play. On her pc at her home.

Man that game has some serious memories for me.

Bushido Blade 1+2 are some of the best fighters ever made, it's a crime the devs put out shitty rpgs now.

Bloody Roar 2 is a must, a shame these series was forgotten (on the other hand though, it was probably for the best, better to be dead than infested with DLCs such as a little pony fighter *shudder*). Also, Breath of Fire 3-4 for some cool jrpgs with minor C&C (that is, a bad/good ending if you do x or y at the final level)

Fuck, I forgot Star Ocean 2. Best game on PS1, period. I still play it every now and then nowadays.

Ah yes, BR2 is probably the better game than BR1, but skip the later incarnations which were not as good I think.

As SCO said, there is no proper English version of the PSX Wizardry games, but you do get an option to change the text to English. It only works for the text that was originally in English and not the added stuff like spell descriptions. For these, you'll have to refer to the original manual. Other than that, the games are just as playable as the originals, and have music and better graphics.

In case you wonder what the various options are, here's a brief summary:

The first 4 options deal with the text (interface, names, etc.). Simply select the rightmost option to have it set to English, like on the picture. If you want to enjoy the improvements of the remake, that's all you need to do and you can leave things as they are.

5 and 6 controls the improved graphics; the former switches between the wireframe dungeon and the new version, and the latter does the same with the monster and items portraits.

7 let's you pick between stereo (left) and mono (right).

8 is plain enough. It controls the music.

    9 is for sound effects.

I was told 10 controls sound effects during combat but never really heard a difference with it set to on or off.

Edit: 10 controls the effects during combat, like the portraits of the monsters or the name of your characters shaking when they take damage.

11 activates the automap. Set it to off if you're badass.

The last option lets you remap the controller buttons but it's all Japanese gibberish.

Diablo on the PS1 was kinda cool, and slightly different from the PC version. The crows that sit on the tree by Adria's house fly around if startled for instance.

A good one I forgot is Dark Messiah, also known as Hellnight. Awesome little horror game if you have the patience for it, as it is basically running through the huge underground maze underneath cyberpunkish Tokyo trying to solve puzzles and explore locations while being pursued, stalked, and hunted by an indestructible monster that goes about becoming more and more deadly every new area you open.

PSone's Clocktower isn't actually Clocktower but Clocktower II, as Clocktower's remake for PSone never left Japan.

It isn't bad, but it isn't as good as the original.

For the PSone is also Clocktower: Ghost Head, but as Clocktower II in the west. It isn't very good: The first chapter is nice, the second is a trainwreck, and the third... To be honest the second was so bad I never played the third for more than a couple of rooms.

Tecmo's Deception. An interesting JRPG/Dungeon Keeper clone. You build your own dungeons like DK to lure in Heroes and then kill them, enslave them or harvest their souls for increased mana to power bigger dungeons and better traps.
    ArcturusXIV Brofists this.

    'Heroes' you say.

"Hey, have you seen my husband, his brother, or either of our children? They all went missing after visiting this place. No? Ok, you seem trustworthy. I'm just going to look around for them ok?

    *10 seconds later*

"DEAR GOD WHY IS FLOOR MADE OF SAWS"

Fun game anyways, definitely worth a look if you've enver seen it before.

I'll second the recommendations of Saga Frontier (only the first one, the second is very very different), Star Ocean 2, Valkyrie Profile and Final Fantasy Tactics. I'll also throw in Brigandine.

uh... dino crisis 1/2 and resident evils? Medal of Honors?

I guess those are hard to play on a smartphone, and they're probably seen as the popamoles of their time/platform but I enjoyed massacring dinosaurs in DC2, friend of mine really likes RE3 too, it had some very slight C&C
