, is not built on the studio’s own Id Tech 6 Engine. As a result many of the features running nicely with Doom, such as virtual reality and also Vulkan API compatibility, will not be easily included in Quake Champions.

From what I heard Quake Champions started as a Quake Live game mode but they decided to turn it into a new game. So it's the old modified Q3/live engine from id with graphics engine by Saber Interactive. That's why they say it's a hybrid engine.

There will be public hands-on at PAX East: https://bethesda.net/en/article/1XhLAJzCHSymCkQIKiI6gw/bethesda-is-heading-to-pax-east-2017

Bethesda Softworks is heading to PAX East in a big way, showing off key titles from our 2017 lineup live in our booth in the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. Fans will have an opportunity to see special live presentations of Arkane Studios’ upcoming, highly-anticipated Prey, as well as be among the first to go hands-on with The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind, Quake Champions, and The Elder Scrolls: Legends on iPad. Attendees can check out all of the games from March 10 through March 12 at Bethesda’s PAX East booth (numbers 18007 and 20007). Take a look below for details:

[...]

Quake Champions

This wait is over. PAX East will be the first opportunity for fans to play Quake Champions, id Software’s latest entry in the Quake franchise, the granddaddy of all eSports shooters. Attendees will test their reflexes (and rocket jumping skills) in fast and frantic 5v5 Team Deathmatch battles. PAX-goers will also be able to sign-up for the game’s exclusive Closed Beta test, coming soon in 2017.

Btw, every time I visit Beth.net and they ask my birth date, I always type something like 07/07/1977 or 06/06/1966. Imagine that, by any chance, a Zenimax/Beth exec happen to see the number, and his mind overflow with an indescribable pleasure.

My team has the sexiest and deadliest waifus you can recruit.
Signed up so I can bitch about it later

They also released their first character trailer for the bluehaired pornbait dyke nobody cares about in favor of muh diversity rather than the more series-iconic Ranger featuring Lilith from Borderlands

Quake Champions – Nyx Champion Trailer
Whether you want to play as an aggressive brute or a nimble damage-dealer, you’ll find your match in the Quake Champions character roster. If sly and stealthy is more your thing, you might find yourself gravitating toward Nyx, whose active ability lets her sidestep danger and plan a careful attack. Check out Nyx in action in the video below.

Harnessing the energy of the sacred Fathom Orb, Nyx’s people – the Melem – have learned how to “Ghost Walk.” By doing so they temporarily phase-shift themselves into another dimension, allowing them to bypass threats. But even the peaceful Melem call upon warriors when the need is great. As a Fathom Agent, Nyx is one of the Melem’s most skilled assassins, and an incredibly adept Ghost Walker.

When the Fathom Orb was breached by an attacker, Nyx was sent to the Orb to stop the insurgent and prevent a non-Melem from learning the Ghost Walk ability. But as soon as she touched the Orb she was pulled out of her world and ended up in the Dreamlands, an extradimensional realm where champions from the waking world are trapped in eternal battle.

Active Ability – Ghost Walk
Nyx takes a walk on the extradimensional side with her Ghost Walk active ability. Slipping momentarily out of the Dreamlands, Nyx is able to avoid incoming attacks, sneak around threats to get a better angle, or even perform a lethal telefrag when she rematerializes. Should she reenter the Dreamlands in the same physical space as an enemy player, she destroys them from the inside out in a gory spray. While Ghost Walking, Nyx is invisible and invulnerable to all damage.

Passive Ability – Wall Jump
When a jump is just a little too far, Nyx has the solution. Having mastered the art of wall jumping, Nyx can make contact with a wall midway through a jump and perform another jump, doubling her distance. She can even do this while Ghost Walking to move quickly and stealthily through her environment.

Nyx will be part of the upcoming Quake Champions Closed Beta, which you can sign up for right now. Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for more Champion profiles, as well as map features, starting with a look at Blood Covenant coming tomorrow.
i sure hope you like running like a little bitch to avoid getting telefragged once Lilith activates her get-out-of-jail-free card

While watching the video I refused to believe the telefrag was a feature of her ghost walk because no designer could be THAT dumb... Wasn't completely invulnerable strong enough? No way to balance shit like that for dueling...

Looks like an uninspired shitfest to me. I've played Quake Live on and off for years (play about every other day now), and I wish we just had more people playing that, rather than a month or two of active servers on this.

I don't know anybody who wants characters in their Quake. I'd only play this on classic servers with all the new shit turned off. So why play this over Reflex? That game has more of the CPMA style movement that it looks like they're going for, along with nice graphics and superb netcode.

To add, I don't even want to play Quake with detailed textures, volumetric lighting, and a washed out color palette. One of my favorite aspects of QL is the ability to turn the textures off, as it really helps with visbility.

P.S. Look at this thread in r/pcgaming people are claiming this isn't trying to follow the Overwatch bandwagon just because it won't feature a "payload" mode and the characters just have one or two unique abilities. Deny it all you want folks, but I can see no reality in which Bethesda doesn't try to cash in on the biggest multiplayer hit in years.

If anyone ever finds themselves deemed worthy enough by Bethesda to ask them one question, could you please ask them: "Assuming I'm a hardcore Q3 veteran and I just want to play Quake Champions on this so-called 'Classic Mode', what is it that Classic Mode in Quake Champions can offer me in terms of gameplay that Quake 3, CPMA, Unreal Tournament, or any other arena shooter currently on the market can't?"

Nu-Unreal Tournament will take another few years to be on beta anyways so this should be interesting to try out for now.

I think it looks pretty damn good graphics / visuals wise. Don't know how someone can think it looks washed out.

Champions or abilities itself are hardly a problem if there's a serious possibility to modify servers for competitive and skill based gameplay (Very unlikely that they are balanced). Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is a good example on this. You could have most of the playerbase playing with the unbalanced 'fun' settings and just have a classical pro-mod for anyone who doesn't care for that kind of things.

bad: first map they showcase is a remake
good: at least it is a duel map
bad: they changed enough in it to turn it into a poster for "why old games were better" or "qc devs have no clue what made q3 great"
