A book publisher called Bastei Lübbe has bought a majority stake in Daedalic Entertainment.

How Bastion Luebbe be announced today it has acquired a majority stake in Daedalic. The publishing house, the more squinting in the games industry for quite some time, now belong to 51 percent of specialized Adventures manufacturer.

Carsten Fichtelmann, the founder of the company, will continue to serve as its CEO. Both companies would complement each other wonderfully, as is noted dutifully. Both Bastion Luebbe and Daedalic are publishing houses that would work similarly. The acquisition gets the previously especially in the traditional media publishing group operating expertise in the video game area.

About the new stakeholder Daedalic has more capital for game productions in the hindquarters. But we wanted to continue the existing built up over the years, collaborations with other companies.

Bastion Luebbe sees brands like Edna or Deponia also potential for movies, books, audio books, comics or books. Conversely, should Daedalic of course fall back on a few brands from the bastion fundus and implement them as a game.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

It wasn't long ago the CEO of Daedalic boasted about all their games having a combined budget less than that of Broken Age.

Considering things like the price hike on The Whispered World Patched Special Edition, I guess they weren't doing too well financially.

So what, they are going to make other kinds of games now? Because you know, obviously 2D point&click adventures don't sell well.
LoL I love this reality.

Well, Daedalic already made Blackguards so anything is possible...

Yeah I was thinking of other kinds of adventure games... like Telltale kind... or Gone Home... or action adventure... interactive storybook... iOS games...

Uh, what's wrong, Codex? It's a book publisher, not fucking EA. Is there any reason to believe that something horrible will happen?

Making games in germany has been traditionally shit, it is very hard to acquire capital etc. Lübbe has been expanding into this 'computer stuff' for a while now and I wouldn't be too suprised if we'll see Derponia audio/books/comics in the future. So I guess this deal makes sense.

Bastei Lübbe's core segment is Dan Brown, Ken Follett, and children's ghost stories, so you know what kind of people they are.

There are reasons Infini. We are a suspicious bunch...especially when it concerns one of the few studios making good PnC Adventure games.:M

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Could be worse, they're a book publisher without experience in the video game market, which means they don't into WE MUST DUMB DOWN AND CONSOLIZE mindset yet.

I'm personally happy that we now have new squinting publisher overlords in the games development sector. The squintors have been sorely lacking for many years. This can't be anything but a good thing.

They've debated on it for quite some time and, unfortunately, they've decided that the Daedalic website simply cannot remain in its current form

If this publisher likes using focus groups to make decisions it's the beginning of the end, suits who don't play games and focus groups are always a great combo.

Daedalic Entertainment Studio West: Story-telling specialist establishes new development studio

PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLICATION

Hamburg/Duesseldorf, July 14th, 2014 – Today, Hamburg-based adventure game and story-trelling specialist Daedalic Entertainment establishes a new development studio that is supposed to operate from Duesseldorf, Germany.

The new studio, operating under the name of Daedalic Entertainment Studio West, is a sister company of Daedalic Entertainment. Carsten Fichtelmann is appointed as Managing Director for both the parent company as well as Daedalic Entertainment Studio West. He founded the new studio together with industry veterans Andreas Suika, who takes over the role of Creative Director, and Technical Director Dirk Steenpaß.

"Our new studio continues our strategy of developing high quality story- and character-driven games. At Daedalic Entertainment Studio West, there will be a lot of similarities to what we’re doing at Daedalic’s head offices in Hamburg, however, the new Duesseldorf studio will rather be focusing on genres other than adventure games”, explains Daedalic founder and Managing Director Carsten Fichtelmann. “We’ll soon reveal details on Daedalic Studio West’s first project”, he adds. “Together with our industry veteran partners Andreas Suika and Dirk Steenpaß, we‘re very happy to not only start a new adventure for Daedalic, but also to secure Daedalic’s future development.”

“Making the dream of creating a really good game come true does not only require a partner who is ready to commit to bring it what it needs on the development-side of things, but also excels in marketing a product. It’s not easy to develop an outstanding game, but Daedalic is the right partner and gives the right set up to do so. Now, Daedalic opens up another base for developing great games”, says Daedalic Entertainment Studio West Creative Director Andreas Suika. “Over the past weeks, we realized that we share important values and ideas, and that we complement one another perfectly. Since the very first minute we met, we are seeing a very creative exchange happening between the creatives of both teams“, Andreas Suika adds.

Daedalic’s new studio now also allows the company to look for development talent in other areas than Hamburg.

Details on Daedalic Entertainment’s Studio West’s first projects as well as the office location etc. will be revealed soon.
