Haven't watched the video, but the primary difference between the screen shots looks like palette and light levels. Making a scene dark is a good way to hide flaws.

I find it hilarious how people don't believe it.

Either some people still think it is "last gen" and graphic shouldn't improve that much as their PCs struggle to play good looking but not amazing Lords of the Fallen or they simply don't have a fucking clue what is going on in graphic business and their calendar stopped at 2007 and Crysis. Then there is share ignorance of developing a game and how that goes (especially for graphic)

First of all first trailer/teaser showed Drake @ night which hides ton of important detail which is visible at day and may make game look worse (as problems are visible at strong light conditions). Then there is lighting which was completely different (moon vs sun). Foliage is also completely different as first trailer showed more of traditional jungle where later showed entirely different level with foliage being completely different (but not worse in therms of quality).

Secondly there is a lot of stuff under the hood that is trully amazing for graphical nerds. For example all hair on his body are actual hair including chest hair, hands and so on and all of them behave according to physic model. Clothes are full soft bodies also behaving according to physic model. His model is truly top tier stuff if not the best model currently with insane detail. Smoke stuff coming from bullets and such is top tier stuff probably closest currently to RL.

Third it was 1080p @ absolutely rock solid 30fPS which means real framerate is way above 30fps which means at this point almost a year before release they have rock solid frame-rate where if you know stuff is trully spectacular stuff as most of games that take 2 years to develop, year before release on console usually have FPS in single diggits. If their target is 60FPS then they are in their way to make it rock solid, not just 60 with drops.

Fourth. A year time is a lot of time to make game even better looking which undoubtedly will happen.

What i don't get though is why people claim something like this is impossible where there is already game close to be relased that look even better that that UC4 teaser: The Order 1886.

We may joke about how game is shitty third person cover shooter but undoubtedly this game will be yardstick when it will be released from graphic standpoint. Not only it is game that looks as CGI cutscenes thanks to its IQ (native resolution + 4xMSAA + their custom AA solution) but it is all around impresive on technical level. First of games doesn't have cutscenes. All game is rendered same way and game doesn't switch into "cutscene mode" and gameplay mode. Every model you see is exactly the same for cutscene and gameplay down to every detail. All object in game are created with soft bodies which means they will behave realistically to different scenarios (in some boundries naturally).




And there is naturally Quantic Dream tech demo which showed what they have in store for their next game. If you don't know their work they always provided better graphic that their tech demos:

Not really. I am dude who closely fallows graphic development since first Quake. Not only games but also stuff like SIGGRAPH and other conferences where they talk what they have in stuff for future.

As i said. There is no better looking "anything" (be it game or "prerendered" cutscene from game) than The Order 1886. Claiming UC4 teaser is dubious and fake is like saying The Order graphic is fake.
What is more important those are just games from first wave of next gen titles and i don't think i need to explain how 1st gen games usually look the worst. I think to many people just bought into this idiotic "new consoles don't have power" completely ignoring progress which has been made over last few years created especially for those new consoles and as a result which will later come to PC.

As for this subject. I think first game to truly make every jaw drop will be next Gran Turismo considering they have been able to achieve something like this on shitty ps3 hardware:

Their lighting model albait not really dynamic was closest to matching real life situations. Problem was that it wasn't consistent mainly due to hardware power (and their decision to put some lower quality assets into game) and they were using FP32 HDR which is something even now on next gen unheard of in games and part of reason why game looked so amazing at its best.
