You can sabotage the ritual as a full talker ? Fake-Meru/Balzaar killed me in two turns.

In stage 2, you can either
replace Gaelius with Serenas and then convince Serenas to clear the slums, or blow up Maadoran via the Abyss.
Then in stage 3,
accompany Meru to the ritual in al-Akia and sabotage it (if you have high lore; otherwise it automatically fails) so that he dies.
