Possible blasphemy...any good strategy games available on iOS?

Can't get back on my old account, but I still have mass respect for you guys' so I value your opinions.

As an owner of an iPad, I was wondering if there are any decent strategy games available on iOS? From what I gather it's mostly tower defense games, but since I've been away from gaming for some time maybe yous guys are aware of ones that weren't best-sellers that may have slipped through the cracks. Preferably ones that don't require jailbreaking, but if need be I'm willing to do so if the game(s) worth it.

    Many thanks.

Oh, and the obligatory Sent from my iPad.

You're playing tricks with my mind, Chinese man

EDIT: I've heard good things about Neuroshima Hex and there's a 4X game similar to MoO2 afaik, can't remember it's name though.

Oh, and of course, motherfucking Battle for Wesnoth! This one's great for iPad me thinks, you can also try the PC version first, as it's free.

I thought I posted in this topic, huh... Anyway there's a game called Rebuild. It's got zombies, has you clearing through a city to expand your stronghold, find survivors, explore, build, that kind of stuff. All in all it's not bad and good resource management is key to surviving more than twenty or thirty days on the harder settings. It's even got some rpg elements and little choose your own adventure style quests, they're pretty minor though.

Hmmm maybe because it IS fun to play strategy games on the iPad? It'll be even more fantastic if your iPad is jailbroken and you can even play XCOM on it.

Although it's actually a pity that there are very few good strategy games on iOS. Most are just farmville play-for-free shit or tower defenses or zombie defenses shit shit shit.

Here are some of the GOOD iOS strategy games:

Starbase Orion - a MoO2 remake on the iOS, not as good as the original MoO2 of course (no fucking diplomacy, no full control tactical combat, the research has been simplified, etc), but nonetheless still a good game with good control and polishing.

Ascendancy - mentioned already, the AI I've heard sucks hardcore

Elder Sign: Omens, Neuroshima Hex - both are actually boardgames that won't take more than a hour to finish, but extremely replayable and very, very well polished. Especially ES:O, it plays even better than the real board game!

Battle of Wesnoth - I actually don't want to recommend it, because it's way too lacking behind at updating, and you must pay to play it, while the PC version is always up to date and is free.

Civilization - well, if you can stomach a simplified Civ with extremely fugly silly cartoonish graphics, it isn't too bad.

Hunters - Jagged Alliance wannabe, not too shabby I've heard

I got an ipad as well.. Now i need to wait until i can jailbreak it or decide its not worth the fucking 525 bucks and tak ei tback within 2 weeks.
Anyways King of dragon pass exists for the pad.. that game is of course amazing (and codex approved iirc). Has anybody tried it? The description says it's "streamlined".. does thta mean the interface is better or that they went the herpaderp route?

ascendancy is an amazing game and a great ipad fit. However the ai even with the patch was pretty much braindead. any experiences with it?
edit: also frozen synapse coming to the pad.. that is gonna be pretty sweet

I played a bit of Hunters and it's not bad, with the simple (kill x enemies...) mission based structure it reminds me a bit of Incubation, though I admitidly haven't played loads of either game. I'll second and third Elder Signs, it's beyond fantastic. Also, I haven't seen King of Dragon Pass on the iPad, just checked still nothing, is it really there somewhere?

So it will run on an ipad i think but it will be small screen. sad. Their reasoning does make sense though I think

Elder Signs is a iOS version of the cthullu myths board game. The basic premiss revolves around solving events each turn that reward glyphs in order to solve more events, eventually collecting a number of elder signs and locking away the big bad before it collects a number of doom tokens and eats the world. Each event is made of a few (2-5) adventures, basically just cards representing monsters, a research goal or some themed challenge, and to clear each adventure you role a pool of 6-8 dice looking to match the glyphs on the dice to the glyphs on the adventure cards. You're team of investigators is 1-4 strong from a pool of 18 or so each with certain abilities that help the, through the dice adventure game.

Sounds, meh, but it's a blast. The game is incredibly random, with 300 some odd adventures and events, which mix and match a bit. Most games end in death or insanity and it's a great game to play with friends, just passing the pad around. It's very heavy on resource management and you'll need to pay close attention to that aspect in order to mitigate the luck factor during the dice game. Investigators can go insane from a few bad events attempts and you've got to race pretty hard against the clock.

All in all it's my favorite iPad game hands down. Great atmosphere, cool art and events, fun even when you lose (and you will lose), great with friends and the expansion is worth every penny. I sound like a advertising plant but I'll say this, i torrented the game first (hacked pad) and went back and paid for it after just a few games. I play it almost everyday with a fried of mine.

*found king of dragon pass by the way... no torrent though and 10 bucks is a bit steep for me right now considering I can play it for free on PC.

Yeah i cant wait till this fucking new ipad is jailbroken. I have no intent of ripping off indie devs that do a good job but i do need to see if the games are worth my money

The iPad market is so hit or miss and often very deceptive so I won't buy anything without trying it for myself first. I wanted my pad jailbroken but had no idea what I was doing so I followed a youtube video and had it cracked, start to finish, in under 20min. I was amazed at how simple it was, even got GemRB up and running for IE games (they play really well on the touchpad) but I'm rubbish with DOSpad so I've got the program running but no games on it.

Yeah ive never had a problem cracking any kind of hardware (with a guide of course) I also have a cracked psp (that i dont use). from what all these blogs full of ads are saying it seems like the new ipad should be hacked within a few days if not hours. Even if i can just get 5 great games working on this it will be worth it. (frozen synapse and dungeons of Dredmore will be 2 already.. hoping that ascendancy's AI is "ok" which will make it 3. And ill prob be getting that Elder signs game. Maybe Neuroshima hex as well)

edit: and ill be using dospad. If i get anything working ill walk you through. Obviously only some games are gonna be worth it due to touchscreen limitations

well first impression: It's Kodp and if you like that game you will probably love this port. It's very very well polished and has been made to work perfectly with the pad. It has even been enhanced a bit (For instance you are shown what happens after events such as how many cows you receive etc, I also think it has more events and is updated with more as time goes by. also there is a nice online manual and a tutorial for derps). Also (great news) they are working on a universal version and the text already scales perfectly when playing on a pad (you canbuy this version and will automatically own the ipad version when its out).

And bros.. that music.. that music.

Overall ive always had an extreme soft spot for this game and i dont regret giving the bro/bros some money. from what i can tell (after very limited playing) this port is worth it. Game also works perfect for mobile gaming. you can do an event.. put your pad away and just come back any time for a single event/season or hours of gaming

All the reports I've seen from those who played KoDP back in the day say that iOS port is actually superior to the older version thanks to added content and a pretty excellent reworking of the interface. The most worthwhile game on iDevices.
