The story is basically a retelling of BG1, but worse.
When you lose to BG 1 in terms of plot, you know there is something wrong with you. PoE plot felt like the product of a writer that had a much grander vision of things but lacked the talent/time to actually implement that all on something that made sense. I would take a simplistic story all the day of the week, than one that tried more but failed becoming incoherent and muddled.
BG1 was a simple revenge story in my eyes,like it. Some retard kills your "father" and you go to chop his head off.

after digging through the unused beta things here's my guess as to the story (spoilers even though it's probably wrong!)
There are a lot of enemies pertaining to the gods, Eothas and Skaen in particular. Many of the enemies don't have stats in the beta but the ones that do are significantly powerful.

I believe poe2 will involve you finding a way to remove the gods immortality and going to war against them.

spoiler post #2: cool stuff I've found in the files, warning don't read if you don't want the big superbosses and more spoiled!

The two Dragons are the Magma Dragon and the Sea Dragon. I believe the sea dragon you fight on your boat.
There's another superboss called the "DinoCroc" but I think that's an easteregg.
There's a navigator for you ship who is a dog.
Kana and Hiravias still exist as companions in the files.

I don't think the writing by committee that they did for the story helped either.

This. Between PoE and T:ToN I now take it as understood wisdom that too many cooks in the kitchen will have a strong negative impact on final product. Designate a Creative Lead and designate them early; that’s been the commonality of pretty much every Codex-beloved story-heavy crpg I can think of.

Yep, although in the first two acts, post-Gorion's death, it only really manifests as the occasional assassin or found note.

I think that was something BG2 did better... Irenicus' actions were against you (and Imoen, but whatever) not some foster father the player doesn't care about yet, and they did a pretty good job of keeping him always in the forefront of your mind, between the dreams, the cut scenes, and him taking your soul.

One of the best things BG1 did well was to keep the plot grounded and the power creep under control so that BG2 felt like a true sequel.

Without teachers to teach them about the matter, simple people have become victims of the fallacy, purposefully spread by socialists, that we should judge events, decisions and actions that happened in distant historical periods by applying present day moral values universally. As if people in the late Middle Ages saw the world in the same categories in which we see it, or they thought about the State, God, their purpose in life in the same way in which a post-modern man thinks. If you have ever read a history schoolbook written from a Marxist perspective in the times of a Communist dictatorship, the similarities in the reasoning will hit you hard. Basically, the peasants revolted against the feudal lords because of class struggle, therefore their actions were progressive (because they were moving the wheel closer to the advent of Capitalism and its natural successor - the revolution of the proletariat) and just :D

I just have to say that I've heard people blaming socialists for moral relativism and now that I'm hearing people blame them for moral absolutism. Additionally, I don't think anyone is seriously saying that the peasants thought in terms of class struggle themselves; a Marxist would probably say they were most likely unaware of their role in the class struggle.
1st, I was exaggerating for comic effect. 2nd, what Marx would say and said is one thing, and what state propaganda forced people to write in schoolbooks, how it was percieved and taught, is another. I'm not underestimating Marx as a thinker.

Regarding those tweets by Josh - so, do these mean I'll be able to pick the same abilities as passives or actives when playing a Fighter? Because if so, why ever pick them as actives?

Maybe I missed it, but I'm surprised nobody's talking about the walk/run toggle. There was such a demand for this here.

How come noone is talking about the combat? Is it significantly more interesting than in PoE1?

I am kinda hoping that they are going to pull an improvement like BG2 pulled over BG1. Maybe not that much, but still considerable improvement.

For me it's too early to say. combat speed needs to be fixed first and spellcasters need to be made more viable. In the end I feel that it will be a good improvement over PoE1 but not revolutionary.

Do characters in Pillars of Eternity also transition seamlessly between clicking in one place and then clicking on another for them to walk? One thing I hate about Baldur's Gate is how my characters suddenly stop on their tracks when I tell them to walk just a little bit farther.
