I believe this was the case, cross-breeding was not possible.

Neverwinter nights have some halfbreed elves iirc, and baulders gates as well if I remember right.

I have realised now that Pillars of Eternity is a white supremacist game. All civilisations are European, even the natives that colonists clash are based on native European cultures. The darkest people in the game are Italians. Only difference is some Indian influence which can be considered also an influence on white supremacists due their Indo-European roots.

Rautai is like if the Kingdom of Hawaii got technology early and built an empire in the Pacific. The big burly Aumauas are like a fantasy race version of Samoans. They do seem to have some Japanese influences as well, but they're not the stereotypical "Totally Not Japan" ones (katanas! ninjas!)
