Codex 2014 Serpent in the Staglands Shadorwun: Hong Kong A Beautifully Desolate Campaign
Maybe because a complete amateur will make the game HE likes and believes is good, instead of this veteran "i have watched thousands of people play and forget to buy equipment" thing.

This is why STASIS will be such a well-rounded experience.

Obsidian wishes they had 60 people and over 3 years of development time backed by a loving publisher like Interplay.

That said, I agree that in terms of execution on a vision (a vision that many on the Codex consider horribly limited), late 90s Bioware was probably the best RPG developer that ever existed.
Don't know that, Fallout 1 and Planescape Torment did it just fine.
IWD 1 and 2 had Sawyer as part of the team. Coincidence?:troll:

Fallout had vision all right, but the execution could have been better (note that I'm not just talking about pure game design but also about technical aspects)

PS:T was better, but is inherently less impressive for relying on Bioware's tech as a basic framework.

The Icewind Dales were just slam-dunks and can't be compared.

Black Isle never really got to make their own "big" RPG after FO2 and PS:T. So sad.

Sorry, I'm just extremely butthurt about this. All I wanted was a game similar to those made more than 15 years ago by a bunch of inexperienced dudes wearing sweatpants and listening to Vanilla Ice... how can it be so hard?

'by a loving publisher like Interplay."

Loving. L0L The same Interplay that tried to destroy Bioware. LMFAO

The same Interplay who destroyed its own division.

LOVING. LMFAO

BIO was successful IN SPITE of Interplay NOT because of. FFS

We should really take Fallout 1 out of this because of all the differences in development teams.

Both Fallout 2 and PS:T had gigantic problems on their own. Most distracting in each case was overall vision for Fallout 2 and systems for PS:T.

PS:T's UI (ha) wasn't great either. BG games were way more well rounded.

PoE will be a good game. Some may even call it great. But to me it's the most disappointing of all the KS so far, because it gets soooo close, it teases me so much with that glorious nostalgia... and then suddenly shouts BALANCE! and kicks me in the nuts.

Fallout 1 system was nothing to write home about either. And both Fallout's had shit inventories. That's not the point.
I agree with you that Black Isle wasn't great in the same areas Obsidian isn't great either, namely, UI design, technical aspects, good systems.
The point (and the buthurt) is because the refuse to copy the one IE game that was best in those aspects(BG2) and continue to do their own thing (with bad results yet again) It will be a PST / FO1 all over again.(Not that i have a problem with that, i believe the game will be great, but it could be perfect (PST/FO1 with BG2 UI design, technical aspects, combat)

Broken Age is a kid's game made by hipsters, PoE has many things going for it that will make it an enjoyable experience despite the Sawyer treatment.

While taunting you with the better writing and narrative system mechanics (like reputation)(Which hilariously is also Sawyers stuff)

I get it, I get it.

I'm just not as bothered by it (as I love Obs/BS either way) which is why this is basically me while reading this thread

:troll:

I know I'm a terrible person

But I salute you people for the effort put into the complaining.

:salute:

I'm pretty sure I heard you say this about several Kickstarters already. :P
Eh, I also liked a lot of them... Paper Sorcerer, Xulima, D:OS, Conquistador, Xenonauts, Banner Saga, Shadowrun... so far Kickstarter has been good to me. Double Fine, W2 and PoE were the only ones I backed that I would remove or decrease my pledge.

And again, PoE will be a good game... but also a waste of potential.

Wasn't Interplay/Take 2 also responsible for bringing Derek Smart into the world?
