One month old review...

Here's a quote:
Every game is free to download, but then dumps on your head a load of nags, pop-ups, and pleas for upgrades or in-app purchases [...]. Worst of all, it makes buying things impossibly easy — you enter a credit card when first setting up your Ouya, and there are often no confirmation boxes or checks against you spending thousands of dollars. Oh, you hit Upgrade because it's right next to Play and the controller's laggy? Perfect. Thanks for your money.
Nice. :)

Ouya had their console on display in a lot across the street from the Los Angeles Convention Center, which is the home of E3. But at 9am this morning, the ESA rented out the spaces in front of Ouya’s display and parked semi-trucks in them in what Uhrman felt was an attempt to block people from noticing Ouya’s presence.

In response, the Ouya team rented the spots in front of the ESA’s trucks and used the spaces to display various Ouya banners. After this action, Uhrman claims that the ESA called the police. Soon after, the LAPD showed up at the lot and asked to see the company’s permits. After determining that everything was in order, the cops ultimately left without taking any further action.

I think the Ouya's a shitpile, but good on them setting up across the street from E3. Free enterprise is a bitch.

E3 lost all credibility when big publishers browbeat the ESA into ejecting impartial journalists from the conferences. It's basically a large and expensive television commercial at this point.

For those interested, Doctor Ashen has mentioned on his twitter that he has found an Ouya in a second hand shop before its official release (!) and intends to review it. No idea when he'll do it, but if his console reviews (real or chinese) are any indication, it will be brilliant

In the evening, OUYA stand supposedly received a handful of hipsters a lot of people because they were handing out free beer.

Handing out free stuff is one of the ways the big guys cajole "gaming journalists" into 9/10'ing for their supper, so I'd say the Ouya folks are off to a promising start.

Bicycles, fucking bicycles. I want to see the board meeting on which they approved those, additionally the amount of bribes that went into this because I'm still in denial that anybody, multiple somebodies actually, could come to the conclusion this was a 'good' idea.

This thing comes out to stores in a couple days (June 25). Meanwhile not even 20% of the backers have received theirs yet, even though Ouya claim that all units were sent out and are on the way. They've been saying this for over a month, so see how long they can keep it up. Not to mention, the kickstarter version is a beta, with all sorts of problems like broken controllers, unresponsive controllers, dead zone issues, or the unit overheating. Those who supported early have been screwed the most, lol. Especially those who shelled out $700 for early developer units. They got the worst units of all.

Most of the games are garbage, though most people just use it for the emulators anyways, even though the whole point of the Ouya is its insufferable indie hipster cred. It's whole purpose is to be free from publisher interference. Yet most people get it just to play emulated console games distributed by the evil publishers. The best game on the Ouya is Final Fantasy 3. Real indie.

There was even a point where the very first thing you had to do was enter your credit card number, just to see the games list at all. And the Buy Game option didn't have confirm or cancel button. Add to that the controller lag issue, and people would accidently click on the Buy Game button and it would auto purchase with no way to stop it. Although in the newest firmware updates you can at least see the game lists without giving Ouya your credit card number.

It's all pretty lol so far. See what happens in a couple days.
