Just discovered this gem by browsing on the ahem rpgwatch forums .
The game is set in the 50's and has a very fallout-ish feel to it, apparently made by a indie company in 2007. The engine in particular has truckloads of potential, BG2 in this engine would be hands down the best game ever.

Even though the company is inactive/gone/whatever, you can still buy the game through here http://www.regnow.com/softsell/nph-s…i?item=11127-1

The site is gone as well but you can use the wayback machine http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.ausgamedev.com

It was made by a codexer.
http://www.rpgcodex.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=7508
After watching a couple of screens again I kind of remembered it. But I didn't pay much attention at the time.

Like PtD, it was an indie ahead of its time and now it's dead :|

Latest demo version 3.24 is here:
http://web.archive.org/web/200702020641 ... /news.html
http://web.archive.org/web/200702020641 ... meDemo.exe
I can't try this at the moment (linuxfag) so I'm not sure if it works.

I don't understand what exactly was released for free.
It says the game the game is shareware (so supposedly it should be full version) but the "demo" on their site is 13.1 MB, but the vapor links on the web mention a filesize of 31.68 MB
It's fucking ridiculous how all the links redirect to the dead developer site. I can't get the "full" download anywhere.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
As far as I remember the creator loved permadeath so much that he put it into his game as a mandatory option, but that made it suck because it's more of a Baldur's Gate like than a roguelike. So you can have lots of fun playing through the same areas over and over again when you die.

It got much less frustrating after there was a patch that increased starting level of the PC. I played it a few months ago. It was quite nice despite the graphics and I went quite far until I made a bad decision in a random encounter and got a bad end - one thing that annoyed me that instead of some kind of an cool death text like in Fallout, I got a lecture about how I'm playing a hard game mode and I have only one chance just like in real life. Jesus fucking Christ.

One thing that I liked about the game is how there were these parts where there suddenly a wall of text would appear with some kind of a choice. A very nice touch that adds a choose your own adventure book feel to some situations.

The link in the first post points to an old version of the demo: 2.26, to be exact. The archived website says the 3.24 version is the last one to be released. It's 32437 kilobytes. Much larger than the demo we can get from the archive.

I can't seem to find it anywhere. I even resorted to the *gulp* ed2k network and came up with a link, but it supposedly only has *1* full source, and it hasn't been seen in awhile.

So it looks like we're stuck with the old demo, unless one of the Codexers that has the game would be willing to share.

It's an old website. The latest version was 3.42 but don't use it as it has a bug that makes it unbearably slow even on new hardware. Which is a shame as he added stuff like Fallout-style aiming interface with wire-frame meshes of the target. He quit development forever just after releasing that version.

The latest working version is 3.32.

Thanks for the warning, but I can't get any version newer than 2.26 right now. :/ So i'm hoping he reads my PM soon and uploads the demo somewhere.

edit: Too bad he quit. Do you know why that happened?

Let me check my OS.doc. Wait, there's only the cd-key. NMA.txt, then.
Let's see...
Hmm...
Well, he didn't have enough sales, so he wanted to remove demo as he believed that it stops customers from buying because cRPGs have a steep learning curve or something like that. Then some polish guy told him that it's probably because he doesn't gave a product that most of the potential audience considers worth buying and posted him a translation of (bad) impressions of some Polish Fallout forum members and a long list of reasons why OS isn't as attractive product as Fallout, so Davaris lost his heart, quit cRPG development forever, and took down his website together with patches and technical support.

And the dev was posting at his website stuff like this, so, he probably believed that he's selling the best thing since slice bread and realising that it isn't was a too big shock to him.

I can see why he was disappointed after reading your post and his webpage. Seems like he was shot down in flames and couldn't handle it.

He needs to release the game again. And someone at the codex make a LP.

I found a post at RPGW
http://www.rpgwatch.com/forums/showthre ... 1061091088

Game length…….Seriously I haven't a clue. I could guess and say that it took me around 20 - 30 hours to finish, but that is just a guess at best. It's not short I can guarantee that, but I don't think it was as long as the original Fallouts.

Here is a post from the now defunct Omega Syndrome forums explaining what exactly is in the main game. That will probably help you more than my guess.

I can tell you that I liked it and it was money well spent.

...

No, not much C&C. Certainly not like The Witcher. There are random encounters that can mix things up a bit.

There are a few adventure style puzzles to be figured out. The first one is a doozy too. Took me a few tries to figure out what to do. It was logical, but for some reason my brain wasn't quite grasping on what to do

There are 21 permanent locations, 25 random spawning special encounters and lots of monster encounters in a world map that encompasses the town (above and below ground) and surrounding areas. There are multiple ways to complete many quests, depending on your character's strengths and weaknesses. So you can play it as a thug, a thief, a gun slinger, a hand to hand specialist, or pretty much anything you can think of. Also unlike some shareware games that have endless (pointless?) dungeon crawls, you'll learn more about the story as you journey onwards.

I can do it :) .
Then start playing the demo damn it! :)

And if someone has the 34? MB shareware version post it.
Keep in mind this used to be on the official website for free download, so it's not "downloading a car".

Game sounds promising, only the art assets could need some polishing/editing to make them look more like one unit, rather than a couple of seperate lifeless elements. Nice! I am actually amazed that an apparently finished cRPG is kept so low profile. A shame the guy stopped developping.
