That is wise. You should focus on conserving your minerals, because you require more minerals.

Are you all accepting new fleet members?
Fed: Pigiron@pigiron2
Yes, we are.
Sent friend and chat invites now, are you Fed or KDF?

Made a cactus faced alien in this seeing as the Neverwinter Kodex Krew is all but abandoned. Anyone invite, please? Zodney Vollocks@yassirfir
Fed or KDF?

Excellent. I can't wait to be a part of this prestigious organization. Are there any other stipulations on starbase contributions besides the dilithium one? I'm rather poor but I'd like to contribute without disrupting anyone's five year plan. Anyway, my main is Fed, alt is KDF.

Generally our contributions are just what you can afford, Norfleet runs a tight operation with some Indonesians so most of us don't do much. Just ask him if you want to make some Fleet Credits.

My thoughts on the Nukara passives: I'm really very iffy about them. On one hand, the additional hull is puny and has little meaningful effect. It is, however, unconditionally "good", in the sense that it cannot be counterproductive. The shield penetration perks, on the other hand, do not actually increase the damage you do: They simply alter what proportion of it is applied to shields, and what proportion of it is applied to hull. But unless you are killing an opponent through his shields, the net effect is that nothing changes...and if anything, the process takes longer. Why?

In Netrek, an advanced player strategy is that we "split" damage between shields and hull, deliberately lowering shields before they have failed to intentionally take hull damage. This allows both natural shield and hull regeneration (the only way to recover damage) to work simultaneously, essentially giving you a 50% boost in regeneration (hull repairs at half the rate of shields). In STO, the concept is analogous: If you split your damage, your opponent's hull heals and regeneration will begin to work at the same time they still have shields to heal, so rather than his hull heals sitting idle and doing nothing because he has no damage to heal, they get to repair damage.

Remember, unlike DEM and other shield-penetrating damages, the Nukara passives do not increase the damage you deal. DEM inflicts EXTRA damage. Nukara passives don't, they just divide the damage. So unless the increased damage is enabling you to kill your enemies while their shields are still up...you don't gain anything. On GROUND, this is quite possible to do with a good stabbing, and an additional penetration boost translates to increased facestabbing damage, since swords don't have perfect penetration either. In SPACE, the bonus is...considerably less clear. In nearly all PvE scenarios, you will simply batter an opponent into submission by crushing all his defenses anyway, and opponents rarely have any significant healing worth mentioning. In PvP, the above scenario becomes much more of a thing.

All in all, there is not much in the Nukara passives that really stands out as Excellent that will change your game. I would simply sit on them and choose nothing at this time, except maybe Ground Penetration vs. Health, but even there, there's nothing that's going to make or break you.

45', 90', 180', 250'.

Anything good to say about Cannons? I've more or less stuck exclusively with 90' Dual ___ Banks, wondering how the other weapons are.

Generally, the only weapons people really use are torps (90'), dual heavy cannons (45'), turrets (360') and beam arrays (250').

With ships like escorts, raptors and birds of prey, you put a bunch of DHCs and possibly a torp launcher in the front and turrets in the aft since this will give you maximal firepower as long as you can keep the target in the 45' cone.

On heavier ships like cruisers, the usual build is 3 beam arrays and 1 torp in both the fore and aft. Since beam arrays have a 250' firing arc, the fore and aft beams willl overlap allowing you to do full broadsides. The thing is that because of power drain, 6 beam array will do more damage than 7 or 8 which leaves you with 2 spare slots that you usually fill with torp launchers and possibly a mine launcher.

Generally torps though since mines tend to require aggressive speed to deploy effectively. The king cruiser torp combo at the moment is Wide Angle Quantum (Fed premium ship torp, has 180 degree firing angle; this means you won't need to spin around like a madman to keep broadside and torps firing at all times) and Romulan Hyper Plasma.

EDIT: Also it's fairly common for most ships to use a Cutter Beam (Omega rep) as one of the aft energy weapons, either replacing a turret or a beam array. Cruisers obviously get more out of it due to the 360' firing arc, but it has higher DPS than a turret (not counting Rapid Fire and Volley effects).

Thanks for that guys. :bro:

Second question, do buffs stack? Attack Pattern Omega and AP Alpha for example, or Battle Strategies and Target Optics for another example.

EDIT: If it matters, I'm talking about the +dmg % boost these abilities give

So the Romulans get a ship with battle cloak, subsystem targetting, and sensor analysis that can equip dual cannons, has a turn rate of 10, and has all those weird singularity thingies.

I am asuming the name does mean 'Trolololol' in Romulan.

Yes, yes they do. It is a common tactic in PvP to stack all of these at once and then unload on some foo.

So, I just started STO the other day with a Romulan Republic Tactical Officer, and I'd like to join up with a Codex fleet. I just started the mission where I choose Federation or Klingon, and I'm wondering which one to pick. Also any general noob advice would be appreciated.

Whichever you want really, we got a Fleet on both sides.

Nah the Feds already have a fast Sci Ship with cannons. Trololo in Romulan is actually T'varo.

As I said in game I chose KDF for the raiding doff missions. They net a pittance in bric-a-brac but its consistent pittance, as opposed to the Feds shit missions for shit pay. Are there any unique to Fed doff missions notably worth while?

If I was into 'role playing' within the game setting I'd definitely side Fed. I'd like to think that I don't side so easy and since I also think the KDF is scum it feels all the more like I'm cheating on the Federation and betraying all I hold dear ... for what? space bux? But I did so thats clearly wrong, what can I say I guess I'm scum too. Looks like I'm where I belong.

Oh yeah, I reconsidered for a moment not for ""role playing"" moral reasons but because I much prefer walking around Earth to the layout of The First City.

I was mostly focusing on the idea of a Sci-Ship with cannons and battle cloak to be honest. Most of my time in STO was trolling Feddies on Kerrat with a BoP, so battle cloak is a must for me to enjoy the game. And I can't help but find ships with lots of special abilities kind of sexy. I can't help but add lots and lots of universal consoles to mine even when I could make the ship more powerful with +% crap.

*checks wiki*

But the fleet version of that ship you do mention does look pretty awesome for Kerrat indeed. Crazy turn rate, enhanced battle cloak, 4/3 with dual cannons, universal LtC. I can taste the tears already. And lots of skills as well. :D

Also, how's the D'deridex/D'ridthau in practice? The idea of an engineer captain in a tanky healcruiser with battle cloak is kind of alluring... in theory. And it does look sleek as bleep for a giant tankcruiser. Way prettier than the catship. Shame it doesn't have two hangar bays. I would make sweet love to it if it did.

I can't be the only one who does find the Romulans being carrier-less a pretty stupid decision given SCORPION FIGHTERS, MAN.

I hope they add the Scimitar as a carrier. ¬_¬U
